Not that this is much of a surprise, but here's the first ex Atlanta Thrashers player to poke the old owners between the eyes.
Andrew Ladd, who is looking for a new home as a player, came into town to kick the tires. The NHL's Bill Daly, Winnipeg's new GM Kevin Cheveldayoff, and co-owner Mark Chipman were around for the microphones and cameras to answer whatever the assembled media wanted to ask...
The money quote from Ladd: "How you're treated with ownership goes a long way and we didn't have a great experience with that in Atlanta," he said.

Daly Can't Guarantee Thrash In Atlanta Next Year...
OSG sources north of the border let us in on a statement made by Sportsnet Radio FAN590's Greg Brady this morning where he "...spoke to an Atlanta Thrashers player via text message. He's been told to expect a major announcement regarding franchise relocation..."
While NHL #2 Bill Daly denied any kind of imminent announcement on any kind of a move-sale-proposed move-proposed sale, the lack of a full denial of a sale was glaring in the following quote from the 4th Period:
"We are working closely with the Thrashers' ownership to clarify the situation going forward"
Notice Daly says nothing about there "not" being a sale, it's referred to as a "situation..."
Eklund and his "Hockey Buzz" site have something happening meeting-wise with True North/the league/Spirit over the next few days, but OSG sources are saying that they've already met once earlier this week.
The only issue that Eklund brings up that is a concern for owners is the idea that the relocation fee would be going to cover the Coyotes losses over this season and next, and not given to the owners to cover their own expenses...
The AJC's Jeff Schultz, within the last hour, had a Q&A session with Daly:
The short version...
"Can you guarantee the Thrashers will be in Atlanta next season?"
His answer: "Nope."
Former Braves great and NHL draftee Tom Glavine was on the NHL Home Ice program this afternoon and expressed the problems of the Thrashers franchise being two-fold... the lack of winning and the ownership "chaos."
Glavine admitted that the team's future, in his mind, was "uncertain at best."

OK, so now Tuesday night the Glendale City Council, despite everybody's speculation that the team was moving, says we want to keep the team here, we vote the amount of money needed to keep them here for a year and it's done, and then immediately everybody turns their attention in the media to something else -- 'Well, therefore another club has to be moving.'"
Well, yeah...

"We've been working with local ownership for quite a long time now, in terms of trying to find a new local ownership in that market," Daly told Jim Tatti and Scott MacArthur. "Luckily, that has gone largely under the radar screen, but the fact of the matter is that it has been transpiring.
"We believe what we say, which is that we're committed to the markets in which we put our franchises. We should make all reasonable efforts to keep franchises there, but there comes a point in time where if those efforts aren't successful, you move on."

It's Your "Atlanta Is In Trouble As An NHL Town" Post Again...

But this time it comes from NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, who was a guest of the "Illegal Curve Radio Show" in Winnipeg the other day...
Remember Winnipeg...?
The city that could use an NHL franchise more than a half-dozen US towns at the moment...
Here's what Daly said:
“I would acknowledge that Atlanta historically has been a difficult sports market, and I can’t exactly put my finger on it as to why that’s been the case. You make good points when you point to the fact that the Atlanta Braves make the playoffs 13 consecutive years in baseball, where it is a little more difficult to make the playoffs. And they are having difficulty selling out their home playoff games, which, you would think in most markets is unheard of. So, Atlanta has proven to be a very difficult market.”
“Again, it might be a situation where the building location isn’t ideal in that market, and if it was built in a different location within the Atlanta Metropolitan location, it might be drawing better. But those are all issues that are important issues, obviously the building is not moving. We’re going to have to look at the long term prospects of that franchise, and if the determination is made that it can’t make it there, and can’t be successful there, then something will have to be done.”

The Thrashers know their core audience won't ever, really, exceed 10,000 or so of the hardcore fans. They're going to have to market themselves a little differently. They get that as well...
But the issue is, and always be, ownership...
Until someone is in place that will spend liberally, the teams Atlanta Spirit monitors will be average to good and nothing more...
The only thing that will bring in the casual fan in Atlanta is winning. Rick Dudley, the HQ is confident, could do that given a budget more fitting the 8th-largest media market in the country.
With Philips Electronics looking to jet from their sponsorship deal for years now- provided they can find a replacement themselves- anything could go very quickly if someone else's name is on the marquee.
Which, the HQ will say for the billionth time, needs to happen...
Either invest or divest and let someone else with deeper pockets and deeper interest take over once and for all...
Oh, the Thrash just won their fifth in a row...

Coyotes President Fired By... The NHL...
Interesting punch line there...
Since Ice Edge Holdings isn't in charge of the Phoenix Coyotes hockey team yet, and the NHL still is, President Doug Moss was fired by the "League" and not by the team.
Since the league runs the team, that's how this went down...
Odd...
Did this go off with the blessing of Ice Edge as some kind of a suck-up move to the league, or did Ice Edge maintain this was something they wanted to do in blowing up Moss and bringing in Mike Nealy to take over the position- short term or long term...
Nothing like getting your pink slip before the end of your deal by Bill Daly.
"Doug did a lot of good things for the Coyotes' franchise during his tenure with the club, and I know he will do well in the future," Daly told Jim Gintonio and Rebekah Sanders of the Arizona Republic. "We just thought it was time to instill new leadership and some fresh ideas on the business side of the operation, and we believe that Mike Nealy is the right person to do that."
"The NHL has entrusted me to have a fresh look at some things and carry it forward," Nealy said.
Right... just in time for free agent frenzy tomorrow...
