Well, nobody has ever accused Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano of being subtle. And we are pretty sure this will just reinforce that.
The often volatile pitcher went off on about a 90 second rant after his Cubs gave up another last at-bat game on Sunday the St.Louis Cardinals. He was a little angry about Pujols hitting a walk-off homerun, he was more pissed about the preceding at-bat when Cardinals shortstop Ryan Theriot hit a double off closer Carlos Marmol to tie the game.
In the rant partially directed at Marmol, who blew the game for Zambrano, Zambrano started with; "The problem wasn't Pujols" "The problem was (Marmol's slider to Ryan Theriot).
He continued "We should know better than this. We play like a AAA team. This is embarrassing. Embarrasing for the team and the owners. Embarrassing for the fans. Embarrassed, that's the word for this team."
And there was more. "We should know better than what we did on the field. We should know that Ryan Theriot is not a good fastball hitter. We should know that as a team. We should play better here. We stink. That's all I've got to say."
Zambrano wasn't wrong and we think maybe its good he just vented instead of breaking things as he's been wont to do in the past. The Cubs have been awful, and will be awful for awhile. Over the past few years, previous management spent a lot of money on really, really questionable players. Z could easily call out Alfonso Soriano or Aramis Ramirez for not earning their money. He could call out a lot of people.
Here's the audio from the interview from WGN-TV, it appears, nobody got it on video:

Carlos Zambrano Meltdown And Suspension!!!
((HT: MLB/WGN/smolek5228))
Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano had to be separated from Derrek Lee in their dugout after the first inning of a game against the White Sox Friday afternoon.
Zambrano exploded in the dugout after allowing four runs and stormed from one end to the other. Lee said something to Zambrano ((we guess)), and as Zambrano headed back, manager Lou Piniella, pitching coach Larry Rothschild and bench coach Alan Trammell stepped between them.
Cubs catcher Geovany Soto grabbed Zambrano and pulled him away on his own.
Zambrano was swapped out for Tom Gorzelanny.
No one knows, really, why Zambrano went after Lee...
But the nutty is awesome...
PM UPDATE: Zambrano has been suspended indefinitely by the Cubs...
"His conduct wasn't acceptable," Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said after the game. "His actions toward his teammates and staff were not acceptable.
"He will not be at the ballpark tomorrow. We'll play with 24. We'll play with 24 before we tolerate that kind of behavior."
Here's more from Hendry, thanks to our friends at WGN-TV...
Zambrano is in the middle of a five-year, $91-million contract...
And he tried to call someone... anyone... from the player's lot at Comiskey after the game... to a level lacking success...

Such a Temper!
We just saw this video and felt like we had to share it. Chicago Cubs Pitcher Carlos Zambrano...well, let's just say he blows a gasket after a very close play at the plate versus the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier this afternoon.
Not the best video, if you want a cleaner look...follow the link here ((Thanks MLB.com))
While this was interesting, and the beatdown of the Gatorade Machine in the dugout was pretty good...we harken back to the all-time greatest meltdown of all-time. The Philip Wellman tirade/comedy show from a couple of years ago. Enjoy.
