Eric LeGrand Released From Rehab Facility

And this we can only classify as good news...
Rutgers Defensive End Eric LeGrand has been released from the rehabilitation facility that has been keeping him on task to walk again ever since the injury he suffered against Army this past season...
His teammates are still confident in what he can do and what he will do...
A new teammate is now former Giants WR David Tyree...
You can be a part of Team Believe over in the margin...
And this we can only classify as good news...

LeGrand Has Increased Movement And Sensation
This, the HQ files under the "good news" category...
Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand has movement in his shoulders and sensation throughout his body.
The school's announcement in the improvement in his condition comes through an interview the player had recently with ESPN. It's the first update in LeGrand's condition since last month when the university announced that the defensive tackle had some feeling in his hands.
LeGrand was hurt on October 16th, making a tackle on a kickoff return against Army in a game at New Meadowlands Stadium.... and, no, we're not going to show it...
It's still on the site, and if you want to look for it, you can find it...
He was treated at Hackensack University ((NJ)) Medical Center for a few weeks before transferring to the Kessler Institute, one of the nation's leaders in spinal cord rehabilitation.

DEVELOPING: LeGrand Has Sensations In Hands
File this one under the "good news" category...
Rutgers defensive tackle Eric LeGrand has some sensation in his hands, but he remains paralyzed from the neck down. The family updated LeGrand's condition Thursday, the same day he was named the winner of the 2010 Discover Orange Bowl Courage Award- presented by the Football Writers Association of America.
The award is given in the cases for "displaying courage on or off the field, including overcoming an injury or physical handicap, preventing a disaster or living through hardship."
LeGrand was injured October 16th in a game against Army, and he certainly has done that since then...

Rutgers spokesman Jason Baum said the family confirmed the sensation in LeGrand's hands late Wednesday, adding nothing else has changed.
Last month, LeGrand was taken off a ventilator and is able to breathe on his own. His injury was reclassified from a complete spinal cord injury to an "incomplete" spinal cord injury. He is rehabilitating at the Kessler Institute in West Orange, New Jersey.
"Eric has displayed so much courage and determination throughout his injury and rehabilitation," Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said. "He has given everyone associated with our football family at Rutgers the strength to persevere through life's challenges."
LeGrand's family issued a statement: "He continues every day to make positive steps and has attacked his rehabilitation with the same desire and passion as he did on the football field. We continue to ask everyone to keep Eric in your thoughts and prayers."
The "Eric LeGrand Believe Fund" has been set up to help finance his treatment. For information, visit www.scarletknights.com/believe.

An Eric LeGrand Update

The good news, today, the family released a statement through the Rutgers Sports information department saying that LeGrand has been removed from a ventilator and is now able to breathe on his own.
His injury, is now classified as an "Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury" and is supposed to leave him with a better overall prognosis then previous reports.

The Nets in conjunction with guard Devin Harris's 34 Ways to Assist Foundation donated $75,000 to the Eric LeGrand fund.

The fund, established by Rutgers university is to help LeGrand and his family pay for what is going to be a lengthy and expensive rehab.
Big props to the Nets for doing this. We hope that more teams will contribute and help those that need it.

Eric LeGrand Support Comes From All Over

High school players around the state of New Jersey will get to pay tribute to Rutgers University junior defensive tackle Eric LeGrand who was paralyzed from the neck down during a kickoff against Army last Saturday.
Their helmets will feature Eric LeGrand's No. 52 in Rutgers' scarlet color.
The idea came from LeGrand's alma mater, Colonia ((NJ)) High School.
"I don't think it's as much for his football as for what a great kid he is," Colonia head coach Ben LaSala told The Home News Tribune of East Brunswick. "I just think that's where this outpouring comes from."
Riddell reps are saying that they're printing in the neighborhood of 11,000 stickers for use in the northeast by high schools.
A store in New Brunswick is breaking out their printers to benefit LeGrand with the following designs. Pick them up from Scarlet Fever here...
Proceeds go to a fund for LeGrand...

Rutgers LeGrand Paralyzed After Army Hit

Rutgers junior defensive tackle Eric LeGrand suffered a spinal-cord injury in their 23-20 overtime win over Army and is paralyzed below the neck.
Emergency surgery to stabilize LeGrand's spine was performed Saturday night at Hackensack University Medical Center. LeGrand is currently in the intensive care unit and will remain there for at least the near future.
ESPNNew York's Kieran Darcy mentions that Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano mentioned on a conference call with reporters Sunday afternoon how LeGrand was a member of the team's leadership council the past two seasons -- second only to the team captains in terms of leadership responsibilities.
Schiano also mentioned that he spent the night at the hospital with LeGrand's family and fellow teammates.
The injury happened late in regulation after the tying score by Rutgers
