Georgia Southern University is taking their radio broadcasting in-house for the foreseeable future because of an outstanding payment of $52,000 from the previous rights holder...
Georgia Eagle Media and their boss, Georgia state Senator Cecil Staton, wanted a year's extension so he could find a revenue-based way to pay the school the outstanding debt, but Southern isn't buying what Georgia Eagle is selling at present.

TWTW I-AA: Ga Southern Continues Upset Run Over Wofford

Georgia Southern's Jaybo Shaw ran 15 times for 60 yards and threw for a touchdown as the Eagles beat Wofford 23-20 on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the I-AA playoffs.
Georgia Southern (10-4) led 20-3 at half and was able to withstand a furious comeback by the Terriers (10-3) to win their sixth straight game.
Georgia Southern advances to the semifinals for the first time since winning its sixth national title in 2002. The Eagles travel to No. 3 seed Delaware next week.

TWTW I-AA: Georgia Southern Upsets App State

Robert Brown scored on a 4-yard run to give Georgia Southern their 21-14 overtime over Appalachian State, snapping the Mountaineers' 26-game winning streak in Southern Conference play.
The loss was Appalachian State's first in a conference game since losing to Southern 38-35 on October 20th 2007.
The Eagles, now 5-4/3-3 in SoCon play, overcame an early 14-0 deficit, but scored the game's final 21 points. The Mountaineers, now 8-1/6-1 had three turnovers, all in the red zone...
Practice will not go well in Boone this week, we think...
FOSG's Allen Kinzly and Frank Sulkowski tag-team the upset...

It's Not Good To Be A Directional Georgia School Right Now...

The AJC's Rhonda Cook lets us know that the University of West Georgia used 119 ineligible athletes in multiple sports and has been put on four years probation by the NCAA.
Not one sport for four years, but the whole f'n program. AD Daryl Dickey doesn't know how many losses he'll have to forfeit, yet. The school gave itself a one-year
postseason ban.
This one was a doozy.
You had ineligible athletes- whether it was from lack of hours, lack of amateur status, or unsatisfactory transfer requirements. The former volleyball coach, Regan Adams, used frequent flier miles to send an athlete home, and other "impermissible benefits." Adams and ex-AD Ed Murphy have been given "show-cause" penalties- meaning any school that wants to employ them has to explain why they should be employed.
This is what we refer to as the "lack of institutional control" we've always heard about.
Pair this with the two years probation Georgia Southern's men's basketball team was placed on... and sources close to the situation in Statesboro wonder why the school wasn't placed on the death penalty.
You've got academic fraud, providing false and misleading information, and a "failure to monitor" charge. One of former head coach Jeff Price's assistant coaches gets a 5-year "show cause" penalty. The former director of basketball operations will have a similar 2-year period of show-cause. The charge is that the former assistant took tests on student-athlete's behalf ((among other lovely acts)).

TWTW: Hatcher Out At Georgia Southern

After three seasons at Georgia Southern University, Chris Hatcher is out as head coach- much to the hand-waving Big Phil's delight and lack of surprise.
The glory days of Erk Russell long since passed at Southern, AD Sam Baker thought that the "Hatch Attack" would bring playoff berths and post-season success back to Statesboro, Georgia.
All it brought, instead, was frustration at both Hatch and Baker for a hiccuping offense and an inconsistent defense.
Southern finished their season with a win Saturday, but it simply wasn't enough and the past few seasons have proven to be unacceptable for boosters and fans.

Those of us at OSG HQ have covered Hatch since his time as a quarterback at Valdosta State University, back when we all had a lot more hair. He is a great man and should land on his feet very soon.
D2 was his bag, and he had the routine down cold. It'll be interesting to see what happens to Hatch and the guys on his staff...
