Doug Williams Heading Back To Grambling

To coach again... not a misprint...

Williams who was GM of the UFL's newest franchise, the Virginia Destroyers, will be introduced tomorrow. He succeeds Ron Broadway who went to North Carolina A&T after this season.

Williams played for the late Eddie Robinson at Grambling and succeeded him as coach following Robinson's retirement from 1998-2003.

Williams will have the chance to coach his son, D.J., who committed to play next season at the school.

"It is very rare that a father gets to coach his son at the college football level,"
Williams said in a statement released by the UFL. "I went to school there, I coached there, and now I have a great opportunity to coach there again."

DEVELOPING: SWAC Defensive Player Of The Year Hospitalized

Grambling defensive lineman Christian Anthony, the Southwestern Athletic Conference's preseason defensive player of the year, has been hospitalized after suffering chest pains.

Grambling spokeswoman Vanessa Littleton says Anthony "is listed in stable condition after being admitted to the hospital."

Local newspapers are reporting Anthony was taken to a hospital in nearby Ruston, Louisiana. Teammates interviewed say he suffered an apparent heart attack.

Littleton also says Anthony first complained of chest pains yesterday. She says there was no indication that the incident was heat-related and that Anthony showed no signs of distress when the team went back inside to cool down and hydrate around 11:30AM Friday morning...

Last season Anthony was the only defensive lineman in the country with five interceptions- thus, his accolades coming in to the 2010 season.

For those of you unfamiliar with Anthony's prowess, here's a sample...

((HT: WAFB-TV Baton Rouge))

While the Ess-E-Cee is doing their Media Daze in Birmingham, so is the SWAC- the Southwestern Athletic Conference... for four days...

And while Nick Saban referred to agents as "pimps," Grambling Head Coach Rod Broadway, who has a history in the SEC, had an equally-funny observation and solution for the problem polluting college athletics...

All we can do is ask you to get to the 2:40 mark or so...
Be patient...
It'll be worth it...

OTL: Grambling Is In Deep Doo-Doo

((HT: ESPN))

Mark Fainaru-Wada hits a homerun with the piece below involving the untimely, and probably, wrongful death of Grambling basketball player Henry White back in August.

Fainaru-Wada exposes some sketchy practices involving the then-coaching staff and their discipline of players- having them run on a 95-degree day before the school year started...

Apparent violations and missteps are evident in the investigation, and it looks like the Tigers are about to pay the piper seriously...
