Sherrie Daly Is "Teed Off"

The HQ has written one (which, we'd like for you to buy), and apparently, John Daly's fourth wife has one out tomorrow detailing her life on the PGA Tour.

Here's Golf Digest catching up with Sherrie at her cover shoot...


There are a lot of stories about her time with John with some stories about what "really goes on inside the ropes." But, remember, in 2005 she served a five-month jail sentence on federal charges for an alleged drug and gambling ring.

There wasn't a whole lot of Sports goodness, or badness going on between the last time we checked in and now but here are a few things that caught our eye this morning.

Griner Decks Tech...

Baylor Women's Basketball star Brittney Griner gave new meaning to the word cheap shot last night in a game against Texas Tech.

Griner, who is 6-8 and Baylor's best player got tangled up with Tech's Jordan Barncastle near the basket in the 2nd half of their game Wednesday night. Barncastle appears to shove Griner a bit, which happens sometimes in Basketball.

What happens next isn't what is supposed to happen. Griner, apparently upset at what happened gets up and slugs Barncastle, popping her in the nose and drawing blood...along with emptying both benches.

THURSDAY PM UPDATE: Griner will be suspended at least one game and possibly longer.

Big 12 spokeswoman Joni Lehmann said Thursday that NCAA rules require Griner to sit out Baylor's regular-season finale against Texas on Sunday because of a "fighting act" that led to her ejection. Lehmann also says the league is deciding whether further disciplinary action is warranted.

The father of Texas Tech player Jordan Barncastle's father, Doug, said his daughter's nose was broken.

Golf Writers Strike Back:

The Golf Writers Association of America wants the PGA Tour to add to John Daly's already lengthy disciplinary record in response to him posting a writers cell phone number yesterday on Twitter.

Not so coincidentally, Daly's reality show "Being John Daly" had its second season premier on Tuesday. Hmmmm....

John Daly versus Gary Smits

If you are reading this, you either know who Gary Smits is or you are trying to figure out who he is because you already know John Daly.

The reasons that they are "In dispute" are fairly simple. Daly had sued Morris Communications who owns the Florida Times-Union which Smits is the golf writer for. Strangely, the suit was actually for a story that a former columnist, Mike Freeman did back in 2005. The paper tried to settle, Daly said no and a judge who ended up hearing the case ruled Daly the loser and that he owed the publisher 6 figures in legal expenses.

Well, once the case cleared, Daly's personnel file with the PGA Tour became public record. Smits got a hold of it and did a story on it and the 456 pages contained in it. Let's just say it didn't paint a pretty picture.

Here is where it gets silly. Daly, infuriated that the report was...well...reported on, decided as revenge that he would publish Smits' work cell phone number in a Tweet. Not one, but 3 of them. He's since taken down the posts, but other websites have posted screen grabs of it.

Having covered and attempted to interview Daly several times in the past 20 years, we can confirm that he isn't...well...the nicest person you'll ever meet. We get that he has somewhat of a cult-like following on the Tour and that is all well and good. However, he tends to act a bit like a spoiled child when he doesn't get his way and quite honestly, over the past 10 years or so he hasn't done anything to warrant being able to get away with that.

Daly Pretty In Pink

John Daly ((pictured, thanks Warren Little/Getty))wore bright pink trousers during Sunday's final round of the BMW PGA Championship in a gesture of support for Phil Mickelson's wife after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Amy Mickelson was diagnosed last week with the disease and received a message of support on Friday from Darren Clarke, who lost his wife to breast cancer in 2006.

"I had a pair, so I figured I'd do that for her today. I thought it would be a good gesture," Daly said of his trousers. "I know Phil very well and I know Amy. I've known them for a long time -- we've played the Tour together. She's a great lady. She has always been a sweetheart to everybody."

Daly had not yet spoken to Phil Mickelson, but said he had been impacted personally by breast cancer.

"I sent out a media message," Daly said. "He's probably surrounded by callers right now and I didn't want to bother him. I'm sure everybody on Tour and everybody in the world is thinking about her.

"There's been some [breast cancer] in the family and a lot of friends. It's just a tough thing women have to go through. But if they caught it in time, it is curable."

Daly Done For At Least 6 Months

In the immortal words of Dean Vernon Wormer of Faber College "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life son." That message didn't resonate with "Long" John Daly, who has drank and partied his way to a 6 month suspension from the PGA tour.

The PGA Tour suspended Daly for conduct that brought unwelcome publicity, including a night in a North Carolina jail to sober up. Double secret probation is next.

Daly hasn't play a tour event since of all places, Las Vegas last October 17. 10 days later Daly was arrested outside a Hooters restaurant in Winston - Salem, North Carolina appearing intoxicated and was taken to jail to sleep it off. That's getting the Otis Campbell treatment. (One for you Andy Griffith Show fans). You all remember the jail house photo of Daly in the orange jump suit which lets just say embarrassed the PGA Tour.

Daly decided to go public with the suspension "to be fair to my fans and tournament organizers" during the first three months of the season when he typically plays. His last victory was the Buick Invitational in 2004, and Daly said his five-year exemption as a past champion runs out this year.

Daly will keep playing golf across the pond. He will play in the European Tour.

"This is the lowest I've ever been," Daly told the Associated Press. "There's always light with me. Right now, my home tour is probably Europe. And I love the European tour. I always have. But my home is the United States. That's where I would rather play."

Here's a list of stupid things Daly did in 2008:

1. After a rain delay at Innisbrook during the Florida swing, he emerged from a Hooters hospitality tent with Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden as his caddie for the final seven holes of the round, prompting a split with swing coach Butch Harmon.

2. While promoting a golf course in Missouri, Daly did a regional television interview wearing only blue jeans, no shirt, no shoes, while showing how to play one of the holes. Then at the Buick Open, during a pro-am that featured Kid Rock in overalls, Daly revved up the fans by hitting one drive off the top of a beer can.

3. His night in jail. Daly told the AP that his friends called police when they feared he had passed out, unaware he sleeps with his eyes open when he's had too much to drink. Daly was not charged, rather put in jail under a state law called "Assistance to Intoxicated Persons." AKA the Otis Campbell Law.

Just think, Daly won 2 majors, 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 British Open. He's one of golf major attractions but he won't be seen for a while on the tour.

In what can only be described as a shock to well, no one. Occasional PGA Tour Golfer John Daly was found, well a bit intoxicated outside of a Hooters in Winston Salem, North Carolina this past Sunday.

Unfortunately this isn't something new to Daly he just happened to do it somewhere where they can throw him in the drunk tank. It is somewhat amazing that Daly is still part of the PGA Tour, he hasn't been competitive in tournaments for years. However he remains popular even to this day because he has pretty much every vice that you can possibly have and still be called a professional.
