Witness: Norfleet Talked About Getting Back With Kazemi

Sahel Kazemi's ((pictured, thanks Tennessean/family photo))neighbors at the Hermitage apartment complex where she lived describe the 20-year-old as "your typical young adult."

Neighbor Reagan Howard said the girlfriend of former Titans quarterback Steve McNair was "real bubbly", liked having friends over and often stayed out late

Unlike most young adults, neighbors said, it was one of Kazemi's frequent guests that drew a lot of extra attention.

"When she first moved in, we didn't know if it was [McNair] moving in or her," Howard continued. "He was here quite often then."

Reagan said over the past few months, McNair was a fixture at the apartment complex.

"He showed up two or three times a week," she added. "[He] didn't seem to be hiding the fact that he was here."

Neighbors said they never saw or heard Kazemi and McNair argue.

"She was always happy," Reagan recalled. "I'd never seen her upset or arguing with anybody out here. She may have behind closed doors, but not here in front of anybody."

Reagan said while neighbors were well aware of their relationship, learning Kazemi was the unidentified woman found dead alongside of McNair on Saturday was still a shock.

"I have a hard time believing the way it looks, like it's leading, or the way it's being portrayed," she told News 2. "I have a hard time believing she would've done something like that."

Neighbors said Saturday afternoon, Kazemi's ex-boyfriend showed up at her Hermitage apartment around 4 p.m., before her body had been identified.

In fact, Debra Bacher said she heard Kazemi's ex trying to get into her apartment.

"Went up and beat and beat and beat on the door, then left for several hours and came back and he beat again," she recalled. "[I] thought he was going to beat the door in."

Reagan said the ex-boyfriend told her he'd spoken with Kazemi around Midnight on Friday, and said the two had talked about getting back together.

In a press conference late Monday, Metro police spokesperson Don Aaron said Kazemi's former boyfriend, Keith Norfleet, was interviewed by detectives at police headquarters Sunday evening and he was fully cooperative.

McNair Murder: State Medical Examiner Interview, Evidence Collected At Kazemi Apartment

NewsChannel 5 also found out that Metro police detectives have been at Sahel Kazemi's apartment most of Monday afternoon. They collected evidence and met with a representative from her family.

Police said they want to make sure they have not missed anything. They entered the apartment with Kazemi's nephew and one detective took a computer. The hard drive inside may tell them more about the relationship between Kazemi and McNair.

Police also took away a digital camera and what appeared to be a plastic bag filled with items.

Kazemi moved from Florida to Nashville with a man by the name of Keith Norfleet five years ago. One of Norfleet's friends said he was devastated by the deaths.

"He's probably with his family. He's just really taking his time. This is probably harder for him than it is for her family - her parents sisters whatever," said Norfleet's friend Julian Bucio.

NewsChannel5 tried to reach Keith Norfleet on Monday but his father said he was too distraught to talk.

Monday PM Update: Kazemi Gun Bought After Traffic Stop

Metro PD Public Information Officer Don Aaron held his daily briefing in the Steve McNair murder case late Monday afternoon eastern time.

The following came out of the presser:

-- Metro PD believes Sahel Kazemi purchased the gun found at the crime scene. It was purchased Thursday night after the traffic stop from a "private individual." It was a semi-automatic pistol of an unknown caliber.

-- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations is still performing the ballistics test. Testing is not complete on ballistics or gun shot residue.

-- The investigation in to classifying the death of Sahel Kazemi is still incomplete.

-- Metro believes five shots were fired. Four in to McNair and one in to Kazemi. Metro also believes that the bodies were not moved, but Aaron stopped shot when asked if there had been any other items moved at the crime scene. Metro has a good idea as to the timetable and order of discharge of the bullets from Kazemi's gun. Aaron offered no further details on the scene.

-- State Medical Examiner Bruce Levy released information on the shooting. Three of the shots that entered McNair were from "more than three feet away." The fourth entered at the temple. The bullet that entered Kazemi was a "contact shot" meaning the gun was in direct contact with her skull.

-- Kazemi's ex-boyfriend, Keith Norfleet, was questioned. He was deemed cooperative by Metro, and was allowed to go home.

The Nashville Post, also, has a few details...

"NashvillePost.com sources say that at approximately 2 a.m. Saturday morning, McNair was celebrating the holidays at the Blue Moon Restaurant near the John C. Tune Airport.

According to the same NashvillePost.com sources, a white woman in her early 20s, around 5-foot-4, approached McNair at the restaurant and accused him of slipping her a “roofie” a year ago.

The woman then told McNair, according to sources, that her boyfriend was going to kill him.

Roofie is a slang term for Rohypnol, a sedative dating back to the early 1970s that is used in hospitals for deep sedation, but is now a fairly infamous date-rape drug.

Multiple sources have confirmed that this information has been shared with the Metro Police Department."

Overnight Update: McNair Shooting

Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair was killed in an apparent murder-suicide with a young woman he met at a local restaurant and have been dating for at least a few months.

McNair, the hometown hero who did extensive charity work in Nashville, died of several gunshots and was found on the sofa, police said. Sahel Kazemi, 20, was found alongside him in a Second Avenue condo he rented. She had a single gunshot wound to her head; a pistol was found near her body ((both pictured, thanks The Tennessean)).

Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said they were leaning toward certain scenarios based on the evidence, but they hadn’t ruled anything out. Still, they were not actively looking for suspects Saturday night.

"The medical examiner will be conducting autopsies (Sunday)," Aaron said. "We expect to make additional conclusions after the autopsy process."

Though much of the attention was on the Second Avenue crime scene, police also swarmed at the Cherry Creek apartment complex in Hermitage. They were questioning neighbors who said they often saw McNair visiting Kazemi. Sometimes, neighbors said, she would arrive home in a limousine in the early morning hours. She showed up with a new black car she said was a gift from her boyfriend.

She was arrested in that car, a black Cadillac Escalade registered to her and McNair, just two days before the deaths. She was charged with driving under the influence and refusing to take a breath test.

Keith Norfleet, Kazemi’s boyfriend for four years before they broke up five months ago, said he came to pick up the car for Kazemi.

Norfleet said McNair was in the car with her when the stop occurred, a fact that was not in the police affadavit but was confirmed by police Saturday night. McNair later bailed Kazemi out, according to bail bondsmen.

Norfleet said she told him she was seeing McNair, who she met while working as a waitress at Dave & Busters. He was worried about her dating a married man and hopeful they’d get back together. They had been living together for four years, since they moved from her family’s home in Jacksonville, Fla., to Nashville.

"She is the sweetest girl, and she did not deserve this," Norfleet said upon learning of her death. "He was making her believe they were going to be together, and everything would be perfect."

Though they were broken up, Norfleet said they’d been speaking a lot recently and she planned to break it off with McNair. He said she banged on her door early Saturday morning, but he didn’t get there fast enough.

"She was a very strong, independent girl. A hard worker," Norfleet said. "I mean, she had a huge heart. She was very caring, very loving."
