If NBC was worried about offensive output being a problem as a correlation to ratings, Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals gave the Peacock a bit of a breather where that's concerned.
Flyers goalie Michael Leighton had the three shutouts in the Eastern Conference Final. In Game 1, he gave up 5 goals on 20 shots in just over 35 minutes before he was replaced by Brian Boucher.
The game had four lead changes and 5 tying goals as the Blackhawks won their first Stanley Cup Finals game since Game 5 of the 1973 series 6-5 over Philadelphia.

The Hawks' Tomas Kopecky was in the lineup only because of an injury.
A healthy scratch for the last five games, Kopecky was playing because Andrew Ladd's shoulder injury meant he had to sit. He took Ladd's spot on the third line with Kris Versteeg and Dave Bolland. They combined for the game-winner with 11:35 left in regulation.

No Suspension For Hossa
The NHL announced Sunday it will not suspend Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa for his hit/shove on Nashville Predators defenseman Dan Hamhuis during Saturday's Game 5 in their Western Conference series.
NHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell conducted a hearing by telephone with Hossa earlier Sunday afternoon.
Campbell made the following statement after the meeting:
"I have made the decision that this play does not warrant supplemental discipline after considering all of the facts, including reviewing the video and speaking with Mr. Hossa," said Campbell. "This play is distinguishable from recent incidents by a number of factors, including the degree of contact involved; the fact that the consequences of the play do not appear to be as severe; that this was a hockey play involving a race for the puck; that Mr. Hossa is not a repeat offender; and that the call of a major penalty by the referee was significant and appropriate."
A five-minute major penalty for boarding was called on Hossa at the 18:57 mark of the third period. While Hossa was serving the penalty, teammate Patrick Kane scored a shorthanded goal with 13 seconds left in the game -- the first time in the history of the Stanley Cup Playoffs that a shorthanded goal was scored to tie up a game in the last minute of regulation.

Hossa served the final 3:57 of his boarding major as the Predators and Blackhawks went into overtime. Ten seconds after exiting the penalty box, Hossa scored the game-winning goal to make it a 5-4 victory for the Blackhawks.

Hossa Contract Under Investigation
((HT: TSN))The National Hockey League is reportedly investigating Marian Hossa's ((Pictured, thanks Gregory Shamus/Getty)) new 12-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks amid allegations that it circumvents the collective bargaining agreement.
According to the Edmonton Sun, if Chicago is found guilty, it could face a maximum fine of $5 million and the loss of draft picks. Hossa and the Blackhawks allegedly agreed that the star forward would retire before the end of the contract, which would lessen the cap hit on the team.
Hossa's deal is for a total of $62.8 million but is front-loaded, as he will make $7.9 million for each of the first seven years before dropping to $4 million in 2016-17. In the final four years of the contract, Hossa makes a total of $3.5 million.
If he were to retire following 2016-17, the cap hit on the team following that season would disappear.
A four-time All-Star, Hossa led the Red Wings with 40 goals in 2008-09 and was third on the team with 71 points. He added 15 points (6 goals, 9 assists) in 23 playoff games as Detroit lost to Pittsburgh in the Cup Finals.
The Slovakian native has recorded 339 goals and 719 points in 775 career games with Ottawa, Atlanta, Pittsburgh and the Red Wings. He recently underwent surgery to repair a small tear in his rotator cuff suffered during Detroit's playoff run this past season.

Hossa May Not Open Season With Chicago

The Chicago Blackhawks say recently signed winger Marian Hossa is rehabilitating a shoulder injury he suffered during the Stanley Cup playoffs while with Detroit.
The injury was first reported by the Daily Herald newspaper in suburban Arlington Heights. The extent of the injury was not disclosed by the team.
Team spokesman Brandon Faber said Wednesday that team doctors are "monitoring" the injury.
A five-time all-star, Hossa signed a 12-year, US$62.8 million contract with the Blackhawks on July 1 after helping the Red Wings reach the Stanley Cup finals, where they lost to Pittsburgh. He led Detroit with 40 goals last season and was third with 71 points.
Hossa's arrival coincided with the departure of Blackhawks forward Martin Havlat, who signed with Minnesota. The Blackhawks hope Hossa will give even more punch to a team that reached the Western Conference finals last season.

I'll Take Hossa for 12 Please!
Interesting news again from the NHL Free Agent frontlines. It appears that Marian Hossa has agreed to a deal with the Chicago Blackhawks for get this...12 years! The deal for a reported $62.4 million wouldn't be a huge amount broken out for that long. We wonder exactly what the thought was here?This should make things interesting in the Western Division, where Detroit and Chicago duked it out for the oppourtunity to lose to Pittsburgh this past season. Hossa, who is now on his 4th team in as many years is a good 2-way player who should help a young Blackhawk bunch that includes Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. It is however curious that someone who has been such a nomad the past few years was willing to commit the rest of his career to one organization. It should be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Hossa Taken Off Ice On Stretcher
Detroit Red Wings forward Marian Hossa was hospitalized for observation after crashing head-first into the boards after being checked in the first period of Tuesday night's game against the St. Louis Blues.
Hossa, who leads the team with 34 goals and 27 assists in 62 games, did not lose consciousness and had feeling in his limbs, team spokesman John Hahn said. The game was delayed for several minutes while Hossa lay prone near the end boards in the Blues' end.
In a text message to ESPN the Magazine's E.J. Hradek, Detroit GM Ken Holland said that Hossa will be traveling with the team to Denver Wednesday.
Medical personnel took extra attention because Hossa missed the previous two games with a neck injury, Hahn added. Hossa was taken off the ice while strapped to a gurney.
Hossa was knocked to the ice and slid heavily into the end boards after a hit by defenseman Roman Polak, who drew a two-minute penalty for roughing.
