A Massachusetts judge sentenced Mark Kerrigan to the maximum: two and a half years in jail- after he was convicted of assault in the death of their father from an incident back in 2010.
Six months of the sentence is suspended. He is required to get anger management and alcohol treatment as well as serve two additional years of probation.
Mark Kerrigan was convicted of assault, but acquitted of the accompanying manslaughter charge in his father's death. The jury determined that the elder Kerrigan's heart troubles contributed more to the death during the alleged confrontation than Mark's actions alone may have...

Kerrigan Found Not Guilty In Manslaughter Case

Mark Kerrigan was acquitted of manslaughter in the death of his father- apparently agreeing in his defense that his dad died of his history of heart disease problems. The jury deliberated for a total of 17 hours over three days.
Kerrigan was convicted of assault and battery in a January 2010 fight with his father Daniel Kerrigan at the family's home north of Boston.
Here's the look from inside the courtroom...
"My family has never believed at all that my brother had anything to do with my father's death, and he would, my dad would, never have wanted any of this," Nancy Kerrigan said outside the courthouse.
Nancy and her mother plan to give what are referred to as "victim impact statements" when Mark is sentenced tomorrow. He faces a maximum 2½ years in prison on the 2010 charges...

Jury Begins Deliberation In Kerrigan Case

A Massachusetts jury has begun deliberations in the manslaughter trial of the brother of Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan, Mark, who is charged in the death of his father Daniel back in 2010.
Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Keeley told the jury an "angry, mean, nasty, drunk" ((meaning Mark)) caused his father's death when he allegedly grabbed him around the neck, fracturing cartilage in his larynx and triggering his heart failure.
Kerrigan's defense attorney told the jury that heart disease caused Daniel Kerrigan's death. That's been the defense's story ((and the family's story)) all along and it hasn't changed...

Busy Day For Kerrigan Family- Court And A Wreck

In her second day of testimony at the manslaughter trial of her son, Brenda Kerrigan said Mark initially thought his father, Daniel Kerrigan, was faking after he collapsed after a fight in their kitchen in January 2010.
But she says his attitude changed...
"He was crying. He was kneeling. He was telling Danny to get up. 'Get up, get up! Get up, Dad, I love you, you've got to get up!'" she said.
The prosecution maintains that Mark Kerrigan put his hands around his father's neck and choked him to death. The defense is countering with the notion of Daniel Kerrigan's heart problems contributed to the death almost two years ago...

Attorney Says Kerrigan Too "Drunk" To Waive Rights

A Massachusetts judge is in the process of receiving more evidence submissions on a request by lawyers for skater Nancy Kerrigan's brother, Mark, to have statements he made on the night of his dad's death thrown out and termed otherwise inadmissable.
Mark Kerrigan pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in the death of his 70-year-old father, Daniel, after a fight at their home last year. A police officer has testified Kerrigan told investigators he "grabbed his father by the throat" before he died.
Defense lawyers want such evidence barred from the case. They say Kerrigan was too drunk to waive his Miranda rights, and police questioned him after he said he didn't want to talk to them on the night in question.

Nancy Kerrigan's Brother Back In Jail

The brother of figure skater Nancy Kerrigan's has been jailed after he failed a series of required alcohol screenings while awaiting trial on charges he killed his father.
Mark Kerrigan had been free on $25,000 bail after pleading not guilty to manslaughter last year. A judge revoked Kerrigan's bail after prosecutors said he failed four breath tests Saturday.
The readings were below the legal limit, but nevertheless, there were readings.
Mark Kerrigan's lawyer said that he told her he took cough syrup for a cold. The judge said he would hold a new hearing if the defense could show Kerrigan had taken only medicine.
Well, he has that going for him...

Mark Kerrigan Pleads Not Guilty

The brother for figure skater Nancy Kerrigan pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and assault in Massachusetts in the death of their father.
Mark Kerrigan entered the pleas Friday in Middlesex ((MA)) Superior Court in the Boston suburb of Woburn.
Prosecutors say 70-year-old Daniel Kerrigan died January 24th at the hands of his son in the family home outside of Boston. The family insists Mark Kerrigan is not responsible for his father's death. They are suggesting a pre-existing heart condition set off the events of the 24th.
Kerrigan was indicted this week on the manslaughter charge and had earlier been charged with assault and battery. He has been living in the family home since being released on bail.
The HQ is still somewhat creeped out by that idea...
The max for manslaughter in the state of Massachusetts is 20 years in prison.

Mark Kerrigan Indicted For Manslaughter

Mark Kerrigan's was indicted in Middlesex ((MA)) Superior Court and stands accused in the death of 70-year-old Daniel Kerrigan back on January 24th after a fight in the family home outside Boston.
Mark Kerrigan had already been charged with assault and was freed on bail a day after he completed a psychiatric evaluation.
Since then, he has been living with his mother in the family home where the alleged assault took place.
The family on the whole has insisted they do not blame Mark Kerrigan for the death of his father, who had a pre-existing heart condition.

Middlesex ((MA)) District Attorney Gerry Leone says that Mark Kerrigan had been arguing with a female acquaintance the night of January 23rd. His father came home to try to calm him down.
Leone says that six hours later, after drinking heavily, Mark Kerrigan attacked his father in a "drunken rage" because he wouldn't let him use the family telephone to call that particular woman.

Fight Ruled "A Factor" In Kerrigan Death

A Massachusetts medical examiner has found Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan's father, Daniel, died of cardiac arrythmia after suffering a neck injury so severe it damaged his voice box, and his death has been ruled a homicide.
The findings could prompt new charges against Kerrigan's brother, Mark.
The Kerrigans came out and said that other health issues were the cause of the death back on January 24, but authorites are saying the elder Kerrigan died as a result of a struggle.

Nancy Kerrigan's Father Found Dead, Brother Charged With Assault For Now...

We all remember the image of Nancy Kerrigan's father carrying his daughter, Nancy, into the locker room after she was smashed by Shane Stant- with the knowledge of Tonya Harding back in 1994 at the US Nationals.
Now, it's the Kerrigans back in the spotlight as Daniel Kerrigan was found dead after what the local authorities are calling a "violent struggle."
Nancy's brother Mark pleaded not guilty to an assault charge, and family members are claiming the death of Daniel is not related to the alleged assault by Mark over the weekend. The family is claiming a heart attack took their father and not any kind of incident with Mark.
Mark, apparently, had to be subdued with pepper spray when he was taken in for questioning. When Fox 25 cameras caught up with Mark on his walk-of-shame, he was more than happy to tell them to go away- in more colorful terms than those, of course.
Fox25's Alison Bologna is live, probably cold, outside the Kerrigan house...
Mark's folder with his criminal history looks, about, two inches thick in the last ten years. The HQ thinks the assault charge will be upped when the authorities get their facts in order and have taken their depositions-a-plenty.
