Lance Stephenson pushes girlfriend down stairs and is arrested...

Former New York City playground basketball legend and current second round draft pick of the Indiana Pacers, Lance Stephenson is facing a bit of legal trouble.

It appears, police say, that Mr. Stephenson pushed his 21-year old girlfriend down a fight of stairs at his New York City apartment about 5am Sunday morning.

Stephenson, who could have used another year or two in college to more closely resemble a grown-up, has shall we say, been in trouble before. Seeing that he is facing multiple charges here, his future NBA prospects may not be as bright as he may think.

Those Tampering Jets

According to a story in the New York Daily News, the New York Jets are accused...again...of tampering with a player that they have no rights or negotiating options with. This time, it's with the 49ers holdout/moron, rookie wide receiver Michael Crabtree.

Crabtree is the one and only holdout from this past years draft class and has stated (or at least his agent, Eugene Parker has) that he is willing to sit out until 2010. Ironically (or not), the if the 49ers don't come to an agreement with Crabtree by November 19th, they lose the rights to him.

Crabtree and Parker are demanding a contract similar to or better than Number 7 pick Darrius Heyward-Bey of Oakland, despite the fact that Crabtree was the 10th pick. Good luck to the Crabtree/Parker partnership if they think that they will get that kind of money. They have been pretty universally laughed at for this holdout, while it hurts the 49ers off the field a bit for wasting a number 1 pick...it hurts Crabtree much, much more...even with the formidable talents that he posses, most NFL G.M's won't want the headache associated with trying to get a deal with someone or someone's agent who has an incredibly inflated opinion of themselves.

Oh..by the way. The Jets aren't so innocent here either. Even if they didn't do anything this time, it is nowhere near the 1st time that there name and the word "Tampering" have been in the same sentence. In 2006, it was their pursuit of then New England Wide Receiver Deion Branch. Just this past off season, they were linked with Denver troublemaker Brandon Marshall. Now they are linked to Crabtree. True or not, it doesn't look very good and if the NFL were interested (we don't think they care), one could very easily see a pattern developing here....Just sayin'.

Clemens Speaks

The much anticipated book on Roger Clemens comes out today titled American Icon: The Fall of Roger Clemens and the Rise of Steroids in America’s Pastime.

The book, written by the New York Daily News sports investigative team, Teri Thompson, Nathaniel Vinton, Michael O’Keeffe and Christian Red, paints a damning picture of the former MLB pitcher of a life on drug use and sex. Put those two subjects together and you get a best seller.

Here is an little nugget from the book.

Tuesday morning Roger Clemens was on the radio with his side of the story or as he said "to talk about the garbage in this book." Clemens was a guest on Mike & Mike In The Morning on the 4-letter radio and didn't have a whole lot to say about the book or the authors or as he called those "People crawling up my back to make a buck."

While Clemens felt it was important to get his story out he denied ever taking steroids or having it injected by Brian McNamee, who has said he has done so and supplied DNA samples. Clemens said that was BS and or got his DNA because "he never injected me with HGH or steroids."

When asked if he supplied a DNA sample when asked Clemens response was yes he did and has done everything asked of him.

Clemens is screaming at the top of his lungs that he was clean and that the book is a bunch of lies. What to you think?

Broadway Brett Now A N.Y. Jet

I swear I could hear a collective J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS when the announcement was made that Brett Favre was traded to the New York Jets. Jet fans haven’t been this excited over a quarterback acquisition since Joe Nameth came aboard in 1965. All Broadway Joe did was win a Super Bowl and change pro football forever. Broadway Brett has some work to do to equal that.

Of course, this signals the end of the Chad Pennington era with the Jets
and typical of New York, there is always someone to crap on the Jets big moment. Like Jay Greenberg’s column in the New York Post

I think it’s a great move for the Jets. It will make them at least a playoff contender but more importantly, the New York Giants won’t have a monopoly in the New York media.
