Quinnipiac In Violation Of Title IX

A federal judge has ruled that Quinnipiac University violated Title IX when they tried to eliminate the women's volleyball team.

U.S. District Judge Stefan Underhill ruled competitive cheerleading is not an official sport as a way for a school to meet gender-equity requirements. Underhill said competitive cheerleading is too underdeveloped.

The HQ would beg to differ in some states. We don't know about Connecticut...

The ruling comes from a lawsuit filed by the volleyball team at Quinnipiac University. The players sued after the school announced that it would eliminate the team for budgetary reasons, then replaced volleyball with a competitive cheer squad to stay in compliance.

Quinnipiac has 60 days to come up with a plan...

"The University naturally is disappointed that the court has disallowed competitive cheer as a varsity sport," said Lynn Bushnell, vice president for public affairs, Quinnipiac University. "We will continue to press for competitive cheer to become an officially recognized varsity sport in the future. Consistent with our long-standing plans to expand opportunities in women's athletics, the University intends to add women's rugby as a varsity sport."

Longest College Hockey Game Ever Goes 5 OT's

It took five overtimes and almost six hours, but Quinnipiac beat Union College 3-2 late Friday night/early Saturday morning in what is now the longest hockey game in college history.

Greg Holt of the Bobcats scored with 10:22 remaining in the fifth overtime to give Quinnipiac the win in the ECAC best-of-three quarterfinal series.

The game lasted 150 minutes and 22 seconds. The previous record was set in 2006, when Yale beat Union College 3-2 in a game that was 141 minutes and 35 seconds long.

What is it about Union College, anyway...???

Union scored two goals in the first period, while Quinnipiac scored a goal each in the first and second periods.

The third-seeded Union will continue the series Saturday night against the fifth-seeded Bobcats... if anyone is still alive...
