BREAKING: UGA's Ealey To Transfer

The University of Georgia has granted tailback Washaun Ealey "an unconditional release" to transfer to another institution for the 2011 academic year according to UGA head coach Mark Richt.

"Washaun and I have had several conversations in recent weeks," said Richt in a release by the school. "We both have come to the conclusion that a transfer to another institution would be in his best interest."

Ealey played in 21 games during his two-year career at UGA and rushed for 1,528 yards- 717 in 2009 and 811 in 2010.

And with highly-sought after recruit Isaiah Crowell coming in from Carver-Columbus, Ealey knew his playing time would get smaller and smaller...

But Ealey's run-ins with the law didn't help Ealey's worth on campus either...

Indefinite= Three Weeks In Athens For Ealey

It only took troubled running back Washaun Ealey three whole weeks to get un-indefinitely suspended in the eyes of the Bulldogs coaching staff and university personnel.

Ealey, Georgia’s leading rusher the past two seasons, can now participate in spring practice, which begins in a little less than two weeks time.

“Over the past few weeks, Washaun has done the things we expect him to do, the things we expect all our players to do,” Richt said in a statement Saturday. “He’s been doing things the Georgia way and will rejoin team activities Monday.”

Ealey was initially indefinitely suspended for not showing up for an early-morning punishment run-type deal. remember, this isn't the first time he has had to deal with the "Wrath of Richt." He was suspended from last season’s opener because of an arrest for hit-and-run of a parked vehicle and driving with a suspended license.

If you ever wanted to know why it was so crucial to those in Athens, at the University of Georgia to get Isaiah Crowell to come play for them, then consider this.

Washaun Ealey, last years leading rusher, has apparently been suspended from team activities for missing a punishment run.

It's not the 1st time Ealey has been in trouble, he was arrested last summer for leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license.

It doesn't help those in Bulldog land, particularly when the other "Returning" running back, Caleb King has as many suspensions last season as touchdowns....2. And was academically ineligible to play in the 'Dawgs bowl game against UCF.

Considering the history of offseason problems on this team, perhaps they should consider themselves lucky this wasn't a legal issue.

PM UPDATE: OSG sources close to the situation in Athens are telling us at the HQ that Ealey in all likelihood has played his last game at UGA. The sources say it is "highly" likely that Head Coach Mark Richt along with running backs coach Bryan McClendon will encourage Ealey to transfer to another school. Too many off the field incidents have dogged Ealey since he arrived in Athens.

Our sources are viewing the running back from Emanuel County Institute as "misguided," although a good kid at the same time.

Keep an eye on Carlton Thomas' future in the backfield. The Florida high school product may be viewing the writing on the wall as well.

DEVELOPING: Whoopsie!...UGA RB Washaun Ealey arrested and suspended from UGA football... for a game...

Well, this is probably not good news to Mark Richt and the University of Georgia as they prepare to open the 2010 season.

According to a published report, Running Back Washaun Ealey was arrested overnight and had some license and driving issues. Or specifically, he hit another car in a parking deck...left the scene and police found out later...that he had a suspended license.

Ealey, though not named the starter for the season opener on September 4th, was expected to get heavy minutes and split time with starting tailback Caleb King.

Both were expected to take the load off of Georgia's new starting Quarterback, redshirt freshman Aaron Murray.

We would expect Ealey to face some sort of disciplinary action for this, but since the story is still developing, we obviously don't know what that will be.

PM UPDATE: Via Tim Tucker at the AJC

Ealey has been suspended for the UGA season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette...

“I didn’t plan on talking to him because I really wasn’t in the right frame of mind to speak to him. I didn’t know what I might say,” Richt said Friday evening to Tucker. “But after I decided that I was going to suspend him at least one game, I thought it’d be at least proper to tell him before I [announced it]. I didn’t really feel like speaking to him, quite frankly.”

Ealey was booked into the Clarke County ((GA)) Jail at 5:22AM Friday and released about six hours later on bonds totaling $3,480.

In addition to a $1,500 bond on each of Friday’s two misdemeanor charges, Ealey was required to post another $480 bond because of an outstanding bench warrant for failure to appear in July on "speeding and vehicle registration charges" according to municipal court documents.

Ealey was charged with the speeding and tag violations back in late May. When he failed to appear on mid-July, his driver’s license was suspended.

The HQ expects a lot of extra running in Ealey's future... and a lot of early wake-up calls...

With UGA Head Coach Mark Richt teaming up with Recruiter Extraordinaire Rodney Garner and two Graduate Assistants, the Bulldogs held Texas A&M to 20 points in the Independence Bowl- winning 44-20.

Caleb King ran for two scores... ((Where has this been all year...???))
QB Joe Cox managed the offense to a 15 for 28 performance with two TD's thrown in...

But the offense will be either Aaron Murray's or Zach Mettenberger's next year. And it will be interesting to see where Richt goes for his new DC...

His own job future depends on it...

Spikes Spiked for Spikeing Ealey

The University of Florida announced today that they will sit star Linebacker Brandon Spikes for the first half of Saturday's game against Vanderbilt for trying to gouge the eyes of Georgia Running Back Washaun Ealey this past Saturday.

Florida Coach Urban Meyer made the announcement at his Monday morning press conference after he had to be told about the incident by multiple people. Oh, by the way, CBS had video of the incident which they also ran multiple times on Saturday's broadcast.

SEC Commisioner Mike Slive kept his distance from the incident saying that it was up to Florida to decide what they wanted to do, he was staying out of it. On the Florida side, the Tebow said "There was a lot going on out there". Spikes also claimed it was payback for it happening to him earlier in the game. Dude, even if it did, that doesn't make the retribution right (that's for the whinny Florida fans who will say it's ok). I paraphrase...but you can read the stories and decide for yourself. This isn't the first time an "Eye Gouge" has happened on a Football field and won't be the last. It certainly didn't affect the game, one which Florida regained there Florida-ness and Georgia did there best imitation of the Oakland Raiders they could possibly do.
