((HT: LA Times))
It's now official... but haven't we been here before...???
Just ask Lloyd...
((HT: NBA/NBAE))
The World was a better scorer, but will Metta World Peace take hold- especially on the road...???
Ron Artest's name change is officially official...
An LA Superior Court commissioner okayed the move from Artest since his outstanding traffic tickets had been addressed...
Apparently, his 8-year-old daughter, Diamond, may be close behind in the name change department...
This may be the only case where a diamond could bring world peace...???
And what happens when Metta goes on tour...??? The world could become one after all... "Peace in the Middle East" sounds pretty solid for starters...
Any ideas, everyone...???

Ron Artest Ripping Off Lloyd Free
((HT: Youtube/NBAE))
Okay, when we saw this story all we really thought of was this...
Sorry, this act was already conquered when Lloyd Bernard Free became World B. Free...
Ron Artest, for what it's worth, wants to change his name to Metta World Peace and he wants "Peace" or "World Peace" on the back of his jersey next season...
Artest's attorney filed a petition in LA Superior Court seeking the change from Ronald William Artest Jr. to MWP...
In the court documents, Artest cites personal reasons for wanting to make the change.
An August 26th court date was set to consider the petition...
Can the HQ deny it on the grounds of "been there, done that, better player...?"

Lakers magic missing, Mavs win 2 in L.A
And....it may be over. The L.A Lakers may not be defending their 2 NBA Championships. Heck, they may be going back to square one soon.
The Dallas Mavericks opened a commanding 2-0 lead in their best of 7 series by beating the Lake-show at home...for the second straight time, 93-81. A game that apparently featured Laker forward Ron Artest auditioning for a role in the WWE, when he clotheslined Maverick guard J.J. Barea late in the game.
The next two games of this series are in Dallas. The only question is will the Lakers put up a fight...or are they just plain done.
Your highlights from SI.com/NBA.com:

Clippers And Lakers Fight It Out
More like push, grab, shove, and jaw-jack...
But when the Clips are taking out the Lakers, the world seems to tilt on its axis, anyway... so, the only other natural thing to happen would for the two tenants to square off...
Randy Foye made a free throw to put the Clippers ahead 99-90 with 6 seconds left. Blake Griffin was locked underneath Lamar Odom's left arm for position.
"Maybe I overreacted, but I just feel like if you're up 9, a ram in the back at that point?" Odom asked. "Any other time, I get it. You play hard, you're strong, whatever, but the ram in the back [while] up 9? I don't get it, so I'm just going to have to react."
Here's the ending...
((HT: FSWest/NBA/Youtube))
The Clippers have their ninth win in 13 games after a 5-21 start...
Amazing what one player will do for you...

Who knew? Ron Artest talks about Mental Health issues....
![]() |
| Ron Artest Speaking in LA/Courtesy: Brian Van der burg/LA Times |
From the bizarrely colored hair to driving through LA in essentially an Indy car, to appearing on the Jimmy Kimmel show in his boxers and heck, even his fight in Detroit back in the day, Artest hasn't exactly been the poster child for all that is good in sports.
We aren't going as far to say the bizzare behavior will stop, but he, at least briefly spoke to a group of middle school kids in the LA area recently to talk about some issues that might explain his behavior. He also talked about the best way to solve problems--ask for help.
Read the very good story from Bill Plaschke and the LA Times RIGHT HERE
We applaud Artest for stepping up and talking to kids about things that need to be discussed. We give him tons of credit for admitting that he hasn't exactly had a great upbringing and that it may be the cause of some of his issues.
We also applaud him for taking a stand. He, at least on this day, pushed an issue that is important. He pushed an issue that needs to be pushed and did the right thing. We don't know if this is the turning of a new leaf for him or not, but again, we say on this issue....Bravo!
Here is video of Artest on Jimmy Kimmel Live--in his boxers. Thanks JimmyKimmelLive and YouTube:
