Rockies Nicasio Has Neck Surgery

**UPDATED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STORY**

Rockies pitcher Juan Nicasio had neck surgery to stabilize a fracture after he was hit in the head by a line drive by the Washington Nationals Ian Desmond...

The team said in a statement he was "resting comfortably."

Rockies athletic trainer Keith Dugger planned to give an update on Nicasio at some point this afternoon.

According to the Denver Post, Nicasio broke his C-1 vertebrae. Doctors apparently inserted 2 pins to stabilize the area and opted to have the surgery as soon as possible with hope it will allow him to pitch again.

One-Armed Man Makes Great Catch

Michael Kacer took his 13-year-old nephew, Isaiah, to his first New York Yankees game Friday. And as part of a group with Achilles International — a non-profit organization devoted to athletes with disabilities — Kacer got to hang out on the field before the game, meeting Nick Swisher and Joe Girardi. Kacer served 11 years in the National Guard and lost his left arm in a 2008 rocket attack.

But the night got even better after the game began. During the Yankees' half of the first inning, Curtis Granderson popped a foul ball behind home plate. Kacer stuck out his hat and caught it on the bounce...

It's a little difficult to watch from quality, but it's still cool...


Kacer was interviewed by Marty Myers of the Scranton Times-Tribune...

"I had no intention of going after the ball," said Kacer, who is in New York to run a 5-mile race through Central Park today as part of the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans. "All I remember is the fly ball went up and my nephew is like, 'Catch it!' Then I realized it wasn't coming toward me. I was about to sit back down and I saw it take the high bounce and reached out and crossed my fingers."

Jim Tracy collapses at Baseball Meetings...appears to be OK

Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy is in an Orlando area hospital after he collapsed early Tuesday morning while at the Disney Resort for baseball's Winter Meetings.

There is no indication of what caused Tracy to collapse, he's being tested at the hospital to try and find a cause. Thankfully, he was in the company of his coaches when he went down, they called for immediate help.

The winter meetings continue in Florida, there have been a few pieces of action, but the primary focus has been the chase for Cliff Lee. Nobody knows where or when he'll sign a long-term, gazillion dollar contract.

The biggest puzzler, the signing of Jayson Werth to a $120 something million dollar deal. Anyway you slice it, it's kept baseball on the radar, even with all the NFL stuff and Cam Newton stories. For that, we laugh.

Unfortunately, for Colorado Rockies fans, Aaron Cook's season may be shot as well since Votto's liner snapped Cook's fibula as he tried to kick save the ball...

Huston Street Carried From Coors Field On A Stretcher

So, you come home off a 2-9 road trip and all you want to do is beat up on the Pittsburgh Pirates to start a homestand... like everyone else, but you lose your closer before the game...

Not what you were looking for...

Huston Street, officially, bruised the right side of his abdomen ((or pelvic region)) when he was hit by a line drive- and all the guy was doing was warming up in the right field corner during Rockies batting practice.

He was taken off the field in an ambulance, examined at a local hospital and sent home to rest.

He's, officially, listed as day-to-day.

Rockies Team President found dead....

An unfortunate story to report out of Salt Lake City, Utah this afternoon. Keli McGregor, team president for the Colorado Rockies was found this morning dead in his hotel room. McGregor 48, is believed to have passed away from natural causes.

McGregor had been with the Rockies for the past 15 years. He was in Salt Lake City with other members of the organization on business.

Matt Versgersian is a Moron

If you ever wanted to hear the "Awkward Broadcasting Moment", then take a listen to what the MLB Network's Matt Versgersian said during last night's wrap up show.



The incident, an injury to Colorado Rockies baserunner Brad Hawpe happened on a pickoff play. Hawpe was hit in the neck and after having his head immobilized, was removed from the field. Up to that point, the commentary was pointed and spot on. But than Versgersian felt the need to "go back to the video". He makes a really poor comment about the EMT on the scene looking like "Donovan McNabb". If you listen closely after that, you may hear crickets.

Needless to say, poor judgement + poor taste equals really bad television. 'Nuff said.
