The founder of the LA Marathon, Bill Burke, along with some Chinese investors, apparently have offered $1.2B for the Dodgers, all associated real estate, and media deals...

The deal is all cash and will be on the table for three weeks. No word on whether or not either Frank or Jamie McCourt has received any correspondence from Burke or any of Burke's representatives.

Stow Suspects Plead Not Guilty

The two men charged in the brutal beating of Giants fan Bryan Stow have pleaded not guilty. Louie Sanchez and Marvin Norwood are charged with one count of mayhem, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury and battery with serious bodily injury in connection with the attack on Stow Opening Day weekend.
Both were being held on $500,000 bail, and LA County prosecutors say both men have made incriminating statements.
"This is not an identification case. There are statements made by both defendants that will be used in the prosecution," Deputy District Attorney Frank Santoro told the Los Angeles Times. "I would call them admissions."

Stow Beating Witness Dies After Allergic Reaction

One of the key witnesses in the Bryan Stow beating has died from an allergic reaction from eating nuts in a salad- eventhough the medical examiner's office has yet to give an official diagnosis for the death.
The DA's office refused to confirm the report, but told KTLA that Lee's death would not affect the prosecution of the case. Lee was with Stow and another friend when they were attacked in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium.
Louie Sanchez and and co-defendant 30-year old Marvin Norwood are charged in the March 21 attack. Each is being held on $500,000 bail.
Legal documents allege Sanchez took part in four assaults that day finishing off with the attack on Stow.

Marvin Norwood and Louie Sanchez appeared in court yesterday, but their arraignments were postponed until August 20th.
They are charged with one count each of mayhem, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury and battery with serious bodily injury in the Stow attack.
Police believe the suspects may have assaulted a few more Giants fans on Opening Day, and police are asking for more possible victims to come forward, "especially anyone wearing a Giants jersey or sitting behind 3rd-base line."

Stow Attackers Appearing In LA Court

DEVELOPING: Judge Rejects Dodgers Bankruptcy Plan
A Delaware judge has rejected the Dodgers proposed $150 million bankruptcy financing plan. The judge issued his eight-page decision which will, probably, mean the MLB plan could be the next step in the process.
The team had sought approval of its proposed arrangement with hedge fund Highbridge Capital, but the league's idea had better financing.
The Dodgers rejected MLB's offer thinking and proposing Commissioner Bud Selig was going to take over the team and force a sale to someone not linked directly to Frank McCourt.

New suspects arrested in Bryan Stow beating

Well, it doesn't appear that Giovanni Ramirez was the guy who nearly beat to death San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow at a Dodgers/Giants game at the beginning of the season.
The reason: The LAPD have arrested two new suspects.
They haven't named the suspects. There's already a growing concern that the Police Department had all but said Ramirez was the guy who put Stow in a coma. Stow had started recovering from his injuries before having seizures this week and undergoing emergency surgery.

This isn't good.
Well, actually it may be good if they really arrested legitimate suspects this time. The issue lies mostly with the LAPD's credibility since they were so adamant that Ramirez was their guy. That despite no charges being filed against him and the Department holding him by revoking his probation because he was a convicted felon who had a gun on him.
According to the Times, nobody is talking and there's apparently no arrest record available to the public on this story yet. And while we understand the LAPD not wanting to create another media firestorm, the public does have a right to know. And right now, that right is being abused.

The Los Angeles Dodgers' proposed $150 million bankruptcy financing plan is now being debated in a Delaware court.
The Dodgers' list of creditors withdrew their initial objection to the team's ideas of getting their money from a hedge fund at a ridiculous interest rate... something like 20-percent to start, but after MLB squawked, it was tweaked.
Major League Baseball and Commissioner Bud Selig still object to the plan.
The Dodgers say the league's offer is simply an attempt to take control of the team. A Dodger attorney told the judge Thursday that he will explain to the court why the team should not be forced to do "a deal with the devil."

Girlfriend Of Baseball Beating Suspect Busted In Vegas

The girlfriend of the guy currently being held as the prime suspect in the Bryan Stow beating Opening Day weekend was arrested in Las Vegas.
Denise Piccione was arrested by police on charges of possession and trafficking of methamphetamine and possessing a dangerous weapon.

The LAPD are referring to Piccione as "a person of interest" after Giovanni Ramirez was arrested in May and said they wanted to talk to her about the case. Ramirez has not been officially charged with the attack, but was sentenced to 10 months for a parole violation following his arrest. A gun was found inside his apartment when officers took him into custody.
Piccione pleaded not guilty to the drug charges and is being held on $1,000 bail.

DEVELOPING: Would The Padres Get Their First Ever No-Hitter...???
Through the first eight-and-a-half innings of the Padres-Dodgers game, only the Padres Cameron Maybin had the only base hit... for either team...
The Dodgers group of De La Rosa, Guerrier, McDougal, and Hawksworth kept the visitors off the bases while the Padres group of Harang, Spence, Qualls, and Adams kept the Dodgers doing the same- minus the one hit...
Luke Gregerson pitched the ninth for the San Diegans facing Matt Kemp for a three-pitch strikeout. James Loney was batter two. Loney fought off a few pitches before grounding out to first and Anthony Rizzo for out number two.
That brought up Juan Uribe... hitting .205 on the year leading into the at bat. Uribe would hit a two-out double off the wall for the end of that idea over the head of Chris Denorfia...
So, the answer is: "No..."
Dioner Navarro got the game-winning single... even after trying to avoid his team and their attempted tackling of him after the run scores...

DEVELOPING: Judge Approves McCourt Financing Plan
A Delaware judge is allowing the LA Dodgers and their owner, Frank McCourt, to go ahead and work with a US$150 million financing arrangement- much to the chagrin and disappointment of Major League Baseball. Attorneys for both MLB and the team agreed the Dodgers could go ahead with this financing in front of a July 20th hearing.
Mainly, so the Dodgers could meet payroll on the 30th...
The agreement includes reducing a proposed exit fee for the lending group from $4.5 million to $250,000, and removing earlier deadlines regarding the sale of broadcast rights- initially taken by Fox Networks that McCourt claimed would answer all creditors, but at the same time, would settle his divorce proceeding with his soon-to-be ex wife, Jaime.
Commissioner Bud Selig didn't like that idea saying it wasn't in the best interest of the sport and just gave the McCourt family more money instead of the Dodgers themselves...

Video surfaces in Stow beating

Video has now surfaced showing a confrontation between San Francisco Giants fan Brian Stow, who was brutally beaten after watching the L.A Dodgers home opener on March 31st and an un-identified Dodger fan during the game.
The video, which seems to have been shot on a cellphone isn't incredibly clear and the audio is in Spanish, but you can see Stow and the Dodger fan, who doesn't appear to be Giovanni Ramirez the guy ID'd by LAPD as the main suspect in the beating. Ramirez has repeatedly said he wasn't at the game.
Stow, who was beaten so badly that he's been in and out of a coma since the incident is in a San Francisco hospital in serious condition.

The battle between Frank McCourt and Major League Baseball has now been elevated. McCourt, the owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, has put in paperwork declaring the Dodgers bankrupt.
This is, for the most part, a legal tactic by McCourt to stave off the league from taking over and selling his team. Though that scenario is inevitable.
McCourt is trying to get Fox TV to complete the contract offered just a week or so ago and rejected by the MLB. That deal would've given McCourt enough money to slog through most, if not all of the season.
McCourt has been barely able to make payroll this season and MLB has already placed an advisor with the team to begin the transition to a new owner. But McCourt has fought it all the way saying he still wants the team. However, between his nasty, expensive divorce from now former wife Jamie and his other financial issues, McCourt just flat out doesn't have the financing to continue running a professional sports franchise.
Oh by the way, just Sunday, Steve Soboroff, an L.A civic leader, hired to help make Dodger Stadium a better place for fans and help the team in the community, quit after 2 months on the job.

Stow Beating Suspect Transferred To San Diego Prison, Takes Polygraph...

Giovanni Ramirez, the prime suspect in the beating of Giants fan Bryan Stow at Dodger Stadium opening day weekend, has been moved to the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego. Officials said the state Department of Corrections made the decision to have Ramirez serve his 10-month sentence for a parole violation there instead of in the Los Angeles area.
LA Police Chief Charlie Beck says that although he is confident that 31-year-old Ramirez is in fact responsible for the crime, authorities will exhaust all possible leads before moving forward- especially in looking for as many as two more suspects police feel are involved- another individual allegedly involved in the beating and a female who was reported as driving the getaway car.
"My comments today are in no way indicative of any changes in the status of the Brian Stow case," Beck said in a statement Friday. "The Department will continue to pursue leads that may convict a suspect just as vigorously as we pursue those that may exonerate a suspect. I still believe that the arrest of Giovanni Ramirez was appropriate and he is still the primary suspect in this case."
Meanwhile, Ramirez has taken a polygraph test at the advice of his attorney before his transfer to San Diego...

McCourt plans to make Dodger sale difficult: Mark Cuban interested or not?

This is going to be really interesting. Current Los Angeles Dodger owner and sinking ship Frank McCourt is vowing that he's going to make any sale of his team by Major League Baseball difficult at best.
McCourt's attorney tells the L.A Times that McCourt created a separate entity to control the stadium, the parking lot and a large piece of ticket revenue and that entity is not a part of the team. Bob Sacks also tells the Times that if the league sells the Dodgers, none of those entities would be part of the sale. Sacks also says the league knows of and agreed to this, something the league vehemently denies.
What essentially it means is someone could buy the team and not have rights to anything. It also means this is about to get ugly, because the league is about to take over the Dodgers in full and put the team up for sale. The reason they will step in, McCourt will not be able to make his end of the month payroll due to losing most of his assets in a nasty divorce settlement with now ex-wife Jamie.

The other interesting tidbit here is that apparently TMZ.com asked Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban if he'd be interested in buying the Dodgers. Cuban told TMZ, "If the deal is right and they're fixable then yeah, I'm very interested", he added, "Who knows what is included and what's not?"
This...is going to get ugly in about 8-days. McCourt keeps saying he doesn't want to fight Major League Baseball in court, but that is exactly where this is heading. Summarizing McCourt's legal and financial issues would take a lot of time and probably several stories, but he is essentially "S.O.L". He doesn't have the financial wherewithal anymore to operate his team.

Developing: MLB vetos Dodger TV contract, McCourt in trouble
It appears that L.A Dodger owner Frank McCourt's last chance at raising enough money to make his end of the month payroll has gone kaput. McCourt had been holding on, hoping the league would okay his and the teams new TV deal with Fox Sports, which would have given McCourt and extra $170 million plus of funding.
Commissioner Bud Selig, said "Neigh". Oh, it also apparently negated a court ordered settlement in the Frank and Jamie McCourt divorce case, part of the impetus for the Dodgers problems for the past year or so.
The league already helping operate the team, this dissolving of the Fox deal means the team is likely to cede ownership to the league who would then put the team up for sale, something McCourt has indicated he'll fight that in court

This is just a "Gawd-awful" mess. One reason Major League Baseball insisted on payment, is the McCourt's (pre-divorce), blew $100 million dollars of team money on themselves. Should MLB step in, they would cover the team's payroll, and get the rights to sell the team, something Frank McCourt, despite his running of the Dodgers into the ground, is trying to avoid.
We could go on for a long, long time about how arrogant and stupid Frank McCourt has been in his tenure as Dodger owner, but we'll refrain. It took long enough to explain the bizarre financial crisis the team is in now and we aren't sure we even covered all of it. We hope Commissioner Bud Selig will step in and put McCourt and his run as owner, out of Dodger fans...and baseball fans misery.

Stow Beating Suspect Gets 10 Months For Probation Violation

The main suspect in the Bryan Stow beating has been ordered held in custody for 10 months on a parole violation.
The California state Department of Corrections says a parole hearing for Giovanni Ramirez concluded with a finding that there was "cause to believe the convicted felon had violated parole by having access to a weapon."
That means Ramirez will remain in custody while police continue their investigation.
Ramirez's attorney plans to appeal...
Shocker there...

Police are still looking for at least two other suspects in the Stow case-- a second man and the female driver of the car that took the two alleged suspects away.
The female is described as a 5-foot-2 Latina woman in her 20s with dark hair worn in a ponytail and wearing a white Andre Ethier jersey. She was reportedly driving a white sedan with a 10-year-old boy inside.
How the ID notates a 10-year-old boy, the HQ isn't quite clear...
The reward for information leading to their arrest and conviction now stands at $250,000.

DEVELOPING: McCourt Court Settlement... Almost...

It's over... for now...
A settlement has been reached in the Jamie versus Frank McCourt divorce case involving ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The settlement involves having a one-day trial to determine if the title for the Dodgers goes to Frank McCourt or whether the team should be deemed community property.
In December, Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon decreed that a post-nuptial marital agreement that gave Frank McCourt sole ownership of the Dodgers was invalid. Jamie McCourt then got to seek half the team under California's community property law.
Half, Eddie... Half...

Bloody Jersey Linked To Stow Beating...?

It could be that a blood-stained jersey dropped off at a Los Angeles-area cleaners may be linked to the attack on Bryan Stow that occurred opening day weekend at Dodger Stadium.
NBC Los Angeles is reporting that workers at the cleaning service called authorities after seeing blood on the jersey. Police have submitted the jersey for DNA analysis. And according to NBC LA, the results are a match for Bryan Stow.
But... and this is a big but for now...
While the blood belongs to Stow, police say the jersey does not belong to prime suspect Giovanni Ramirez...
David Begnaud reports on the release of the parole records for Ramirez...

When NBCLA went to the LAPD for an on-the-record comment on the bloodied jersey, a source within the department said specifically that the jersey is not Ramirez's. The source declined to disclose who the jersey belongs to.
NBC LA has learned that police have delayed asking the district attorney to file against Ramirez as part of a strategy to pressure him to reveal information about two other suspects still at large.
Ramirez's attorney, Jose Romero, said he has heard police believe they have physical evidence but declined to elaborate.
The issue, from the LAPD point of view, is that they think they might be able to put pressure on Ramirez with this information. He's one suspect of a reported three with the other two currently at-large. The LAPD thinks that Ramirez may want to cut some kind of a deal if he can reveal who the other two suspects are and where they're currently hiding.

Dodger Stadium Catches Fire

Last night, we had a new version that forced an evacuation- not quite as big a fire, but scary nonetheless...
Dave Mecham talks about, perhaps, the paper that started it all...
And we're not talking about the LA Times, either...
