TWTW Bowling: Cardinal Prettier Than Chicago Maroon In Orange Bowl
Stanford's Andrew Luck, the Heisman Trophy runner-up, threw for 287 yards and four TD's to lead Stanford past Virginia Tech 40-12 in the Orange Bowl.The Cardinal (now 12-1) should end the season ranked in the top 5 for the first time since the school's unbeaten 1940 team finished Number 2 in the country. Four years ago, they were 1-11 and hired Harbaugh as coach.
Virginia Tech (now 11-3), playing in a bowl game for the 18th consecutive year, fell to 1-27 against top-5 teams...
Yeesh...
This was about the only thing to go well for Tech in the game- an amazing scramble creation by Tyrod Taylor for the touchdown...

FedEx Pulls Out Of Orange Bowl Sponsorship
The ACC - Big East marriage has been a rocky one for the Orange Bowl. The match-ups have been yawners and the television ratings dismal.
So with the might 4-letter taking over the BCS and relegating the Orange Bowl to basic cable, Fed Ex didn't see much bang for their buck so the company will not renew it's entitlement to the Orange Bowl.
ESPN was seeking $20 million annually for a four year commitment. Fed Ex passed.
The Orange Bowl used to be can't miss TV on New Years Day. Oklahoma or Nebraska would play someone (usually Florida State or Miami) for the national championship. The games turned into classics. The Nebraska - Miami Orange Bowl on New Years Day 1984 was one of the best college football games I ever saw.

Recently the Orange Bowl has become an afterthought of the BCS bowls. Here are the numbers during the ACC - Big East marriage:
2007 Louisville vs Wake Forest 7 Rating
2008 Kansas vs Virginia Tech 7.4 Rating
2009 Virginia Tech vs Cincinnati 5.4 Rating
2010 Georgia Tech vs Iowa 6.8 Rating

Bowl Lineup In Tact Through 2013
The Fiesta, Orange, Rose and Sugar bowls extended their agreements with the Bowl Championship Series, deals that will keep the national championship game at the sites of those games through the 2013 college football season.
The BCS was not expected to change its bowl partners, so the new four-year deals come as no surprise.
The current contracts with those four games run out after the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., hosts the BCS national championship game in 2010.
The new deal starts with the January 2011 bowl games, and the championship game rotation will start in Glendale, Arizona, with the Fiesta Bowl hosting two games about a week apart.
New Orleans will host the Sugar Bowl and BCS national championship game in 2012. Miami will be the site of the 2013 title game, a week after the Orange Bowl. The championship game returns to the Rose Bowl in 2014.
The deals between the BCS and its bowl partners run concurrent to its TV deal.
The BCS is in its final season of a four-year deal with Fox. Its new four-year deal with ESPN, worth $125 million per year, begins with the 2011 bowl games.
