Everyone thought it was cool when 2010 CSRA golfing champ, Phil Mickelson, was pictured in his signature blazer the next morning...
Now it's not so cool...
Absolutely silly...
Bah, figjam...

Route 66 Wins In CSRA Golf...
((HT: WJBF-TV))
We commend, first and foremost, J-Hart and Big Daddy Kane for their long week and a half of covering golf in the CSRA for us...
We also commend Charl Schwartzel for going birdie-birdie-birdie-birdie to wrap up the newest piece of blazer-wear in his closet...
We recommend watching below...

Masters security keeps female reporter from locker room, they later apologized
![]() |
| Augusta National/Courtesy: ME |
Interesting. Mostly because it is from the "Prestigious Golf Club that doesn't allow women members". But it does allow women reporters and "Patrons" so really, there isn't a good excuse for what happened to reporter Tara Sullivan of the Bergen Record on Sunday.
And yeah, before anyone says it, reporters get their dander up when another reporter is wronged. It's just like anyone else's job believe it or not.
Here's what happened. Ms. Sullivan was attempting on Sunday to get access to a post-round interview with golfer Rory McIlroy, who blew the third round lead in the tournament. She was doing what reporters to at the tournament, waiting under the big Magnolia tree near the clubhouse hoping McIlroy would stop there to talk with reporters.
He didn't.
So she continued with the pack of reporters who followed him into the locker room. They were allowed in, a security guard stationed at the locker room, pulled her out of the pack and wouldn't let her in. Apparently saying was "Not allowed". Which would be incorrect.
Rather than finish the description, read Sullivan's 1st person account of her Sunday RIGHT HERE
We feel for Ms. Sullivan because she was wronged. But at major sporting events, things like this happen on occasion. It doesn't make it right, it isn't, but we our ownselves have worked many events, including 10-years of covering the Masters and we can say 1st hand, the security guards there are often confused and don't know what the media can and can't do.
I got stopped my last year there outside the lunch room by a Security Guard who wasn't going to let me in even though I had been in the room and gone past him multiple times during the week. Still, he said "You aren't allowed to come in here with your credential". I said "Really?, I've only been doing it for the past 10-years". He continued being adamant that I couldn't come in until his supervisor came over and looked at my credential and said "He's fine".
I'm not saying the two issues are comparable, they aren't. But it is an example of the inconsistency of using rented security officers at a large event such as this.
Thankfully, the Masters apologized, as they should have. Sullivan being stopped can't be undone, it happened. We suspect it won't happen again.

Augusta Golf Coverage: Sunday's Fourth Round
((HT: Augusta National Golf Club/CBS Sports/youtube))
The larger story in the diamond anniversary of the tournament in the CSRA...???
1) The fact that, on the 50th anniversary of Gary Player's win, getting one from Charl Schwartzel...
2) The fact that Tiger Woods may be back...
Just evidence his postgame with Bill Macatee...
or, 3) Rory McIlroy's triple-bogey-double to start the back 9 on his way to an 80...
All good...
More coverage from the CSRA when it comes available...

Augusta Golf Coverage: Saturday's Third Round
((HT: WJBF-TV))
It looks like the CSRA may turn into Holy-Wood for Rory McIlroy since he finished the day with a four-stroke lead on the field that includes champ Angel Cabrera and a bunch of others...
Tiger could have made a move- didn't...
But all that has to happen is a bogey here and there and McIlroy comes back to the field...

Hello Friends, Jim Nantz's Take On Tiger At The Masters.
Remember the lip service Tiger Woods gave on be more respectful of the game of golf? That went out the window when Tiger let loose of a few profanities into a live microphone after hooking his tee shot on the 6th hole.Well CBS lead announcer for the Masters Jim Nantz gave his opinion Monday on Mike Francesa's show on WFAN Radio in New York.
Nantz said on Tiger, "If I said what he said on the air, I would be fired. I read in the USA Today and it was called ‘mild language.' Someone on my broadcast dismissed it as him having a camera in his face. Well, guess what? Phil Mickelson had a camera in his face all week and did you even hear him come close to approaching that? He didn't hit every shot the way he wanted. Have you ever heard Arnold Palmer or Jack Nicklaus use that kind of language? What are the parameters between what's right or wrong?"
You can hear the entire interview right here. Thanks WFAN Radio.

Augusta Saturday: The Old Oak Tree
((HT: WJBF-TV Augusta))
Several members of the HQ have spent their Augusta tournament time seeking shade and sound under the old oak tree that sits outside the back porch of the vaunted clubhouse on the grounds of that really famous golf course that's getting some work there this week...
How's that for a really vague run-on sentence...???
So, what about this rather large piece of history...??? And what makes it so...
We defer for the answer to our posse in the CSRA who have been very busy- and will be very busy for another two days- before everyone in the building goes on vacation... rightfully so...

Brian Gay's First Augusta Major Tourney
((HT: WJBF-TV Augusta))
It was a special weekend for Brian Gay.
The Louisville, Georgia resident made his debut in the Augusta-based golf tournament that is the world's first major of the 2010 season, shooting a 2-over-par 74 in round one and a five-over par 77 in round two... four strokes off the cut line.
The two days may have been even more special for his family and a lot of his Louisville friends.
The HQ wonders how he got all the badges he was asked for...
Just before he teed off on his first 18th hole of the week, Brian got a good luck hug from his adorable oldest daughter, Makinley.
Brian’s Mom, Margaret, has seen her son play in many tournaments, but finally got to watch him tee it up at Augusta for the first time...

Perpetuation...Joslyn James makes the rounds
Ok. We were a little unsure of whether to do anything or not with this story. While we realize the Tiger Woods issue story is a big deal (though not the biggest story in NEWS), we have been somewhat restrained in our coverage of it. We have reported on it and mentioned it. But it hasn't dominated what we do.
Yes, we have come out, to the risk of our blogging credibility and said that enough is enough, the stories are out there, he's apologized and let's move on. However, the traditional media it appears is not of the same accord.
With that being said, Joslyn James...porn star and alleged Tiger mistress who claims that he made her pregnant...twice is appearing in Atlanta this week. Appropriately, she is headlining this week at the Pink Pony strip club.
She is also making the TV Rounds. This morning...in honor of the official start of the Masters golf tournament, she showed up on the FOX 5 (WAGA) in Atlanta Morning show. She wants an apology from Tiger. And quite frankly, it isn't everyday that someone with James' background actually gets to be on local TV.
Here is the video of the interview. Thanks FOSG Karen Graham and WAGA-TV:

Augusta Wednesday: Payne Sends Tiger A Message
The really famous and prestigious golf course in Augusta, Georgia has a hierarchy that does not suffer fools lightly.
Tiger Woods is now, offically, not an exception...
Even the world's greatest player was at the end of a stern tongue-lashing by Chairman Billy Payne during his yearly address to the media.
There is a standard in the CSRA and on that course specifically...
FOSG Buck Lanford was present for the reminder...

Augusta Tuesday: The Pairings
((HT: WAGA-TV))
Okay... one of the biggest questions... almost THE biggest question... is always who gets paired with whom for the first two rounds of the tournament in Augusta that starts on Thursday.
You're always looking for guys with briefcases that are handcuffed to wrists or something of that nature... matching suits, dark sunglasses...
Real "cloak and dagger" stuff...
FOSG Buck Lanford has the answers from Augusta on one pairing in particular...
And the answer has some really cool symmetry for golf fans...
