The Huskers made sure the Big 12/11/10 Championship Game would be remembered. They jumped out to a 17-0 lead, dominating the first quarter-plus on both sides of the ball.
And if you believe in numbers, for the Sooners, an OU team hadn’t come back from a three-score deficit since 1983.
“I told them to just keep playin’ ball,” Sooner coach Bob Stoops said.
They did, getting pressure on any Nebraska indivudual who lined up at quarterback-winning 23-20...

TWTW: Boise Takes Out Utah State, Bowling In Vegas...?
((HT: KTVB-TV Boise))
Kellen Moore threw three touchdown passes, ran for another and 9th-ranked Boise State beat Utah State 50-14 in their last Western Athletic Conference game ever.
Here's Coach Pete on the win...
So, now it looks like Boise is headed to either the Las Vegas or the Holiday Bowls. Since Nevada beat Louisiana Tech, it looks like the Wolfpack are heading to San Francisco to feed the world...
The Broncos could possibly be in the Las Vegas Bowl to play the University of Utah who has already accepted an invite to the game. The Holiday Bowl remains a possibility if the Pac-10 is unable to add any more bowl eligible teams.
The University of Washington can still become bowl eligible if they are able to defeat Washington State on Saturday night. A win would likely put them into the Holiday Bowl and would likely send the Broncos to the Las Vegas Bowl.

Mascot Proves More Exciting Than UC Game, Gets Benched
Cincinnati's Bearcat mascot was cited for disorderly conduct after a snowball-throwing incident in the stands during a game against Pittsburgh.
It's probably this one...
((HT: Youtube))
In what Brother Phil regarded as "Snowmageddon 2010," and Pitt's Dion Lewis scored the second of his three touchdowns in the first half, students threw snowballs at his person and were told to stop.
A UC spokesman says the mascot was told to stop throwing snowballs in the stands ((above)) and pushed a security guard ((not shown)), knocking both of them, apparently, to the ground.
The mascot was detained and cited ((below)). He was not identified. A backup mascot took his place at halftime.
What the folks at UC don't tell you was that had to have been the most offense shown by a Bearcat all day in the Pitt blowout...
Here's the arrest, the police actually took the guys head clean off...

TWTW: Miami Gets MAC Title
((HT: ESPN/Youtube))
Of course, it also helps when you get conversions like this on 4th and 20
Last year Miami of Ohio lost 11 games. Now, the Miami RedHawks are Mid-American Conference champions.
Austin Boucher threw a touchdown pass to Armand Robinson with 33 seconds left and Miami of Ohio won the MAC championship with a 26-21 victory over Northern Illinois (25th BCS/24th AP).
"Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good," Boucher said. "It got tipped but the play still got made."The RedHawks (8-4) have been both.
The HQ has no idea how Robinson got that WIDE OPEN!!!
The other "champion" Miami wins the MAC for the first time since 2003 and their conference-best 15th title overall a season after they finished 1-11.
Hurrahs and appropriate huzzahs to Mike Haywood when no one gave him much of a chance to do anything...

TWTW D2: Fort Valley State QB In Serious Trouble
((HTY: WMAZ-TV/Macon, Georgia))
Fort Valley State QB Eugene Smith was pulled over just before Thanksgiuving for a bunch of little things that could add up to one big thing: a taillight violation, driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana (less than one ounce), and possession of a controlled substance. Police said they're waiting for lab results to confirm whether the vials found with Smith contain human growth hormones.
Smith was arrested in central Georgia and subsequently suspended for a "violation of team rules." Fort Valley AD Percy Caldwell may have a whole lot of trouble on his hands if his fears are true...

Belmont, Gay Soccer Coach Break It Off
((HT: WKRN-TV))
Belmont University in Nashville is looking for a new women's soccer coach following Lisa Howe's "departure" this week. The university said Howe did not resign from her employment nor was she dismissed.
"Rather, there was a mutual agreement that it would be in the best interests of both Coach Howe and the university for her to conclude her employment as coach," the statement read.
Howe's departure from the Christian-based university comes after she told school highers-up and the team she and her same-sex partner were having a baby.
Her former players never believed, and still don't believe, anything from the university claiming it was a "mutual agreement" on any level.
Christine Maddela is on campus and caught up with players from Howe's squad...
The statement from the University is hyah...

OSG High: Kansas FB Death Raises More Questions
((HT: NBCActionNews/KSHB-TV Kansas City))
The rural Kansas school district where a 17-year-old football player died from an undetected head injury says it followed new state rules designed to reduce concussion risks.
Spring Hill High School senior Nathan Stiles died back on October 29th, one day after collapsing at the homecoming game. He was first injured a month before.
A coroner said Stiles died from a subdural hematoma, or bleeding between the tissue layers connecting the brain and skull. He says the injury likely occurred during the earlier game where Stiles was injured.
Spring Hill District officials say they followed state high school athletic association rules requiring players who suffer a concussion to get medical clearance before playing.
Stiles' mother says he had a CT scan after the October game.
The test showed no signs of bleeding in his brain.
Here's coverage of the new findings, Larry Seward in indoors...

DEVELOPING: Locksley To Return In 2011
Mike Locksley is returning next season as New Mexico's head football coach- much to the outright dismay, consternation, and disgust of the remainder of the civilized world.
The announcement was made on the school's athletics website. Lobos AD Paul Krebs says he has finished his evaluation of the football program and determined that Locksley will return.
Mainly, Krebs didn't say, because the school can't afford to buy him out at the moment- especially after the governor's office cut 8-million off the university budget for next fiscal year.
That, and any high-powered booster that is left doesn't want to buy Locksley out.
Krebs says the announcement was made "to quiet speculation about our head football coaching position." Krebs says it's important for recruits to know Locksley is coming back.
Once again, what Krebs didn't say was that any recruit in his right mind would flee quickly in the other direction with the divulging of these details...
The Lobos finished 1-11 for the second straight season under Locksley, who was hired in December 2008.
Krebs says neither he nor Locksley are satisfied with results on the field, and he says both of them expect to see improvement in 2011.
Yeah, good luck with that one...

UTSA, Texas State Fined For Leaving Southland Early
The Southland Conference has fined Texas State University and the University of Texas at San Antonio $250,000 each for not giving enough notice of their pulling out of the league to head to the WAC- a plan the schools made public last month in time for the 2012-2013 school year.
The Southland says both schools violated a requirement in the league's bylaws that schools give two academic years' notice of their intention to withdraw from the league. Aside from the fines, both schools were stripped of voting privileges in all league matters, effective immediately.
Larry Teis, Texas State University athletic director, says the school was not surprised by the decision, and Texas-San Antonio spokesman Kyle Stephens says UTSA had no comment either.

Your Miami Coaching Update: Dan Mullen anyone?
![]() |
| Dan Mullen/Courtesy: al.com |
Sure, we know they had a meeting on Wednesday. Along with everyone else who had a source to confirm it, we did as well.
However. We don't think that Gruden's interest is as serious as the "U"'s is. He seems to be willing to listen, but our read is that they will have to floor him for it to happen.
You need to go back on our page a few stories--like to Tuesday, and read closely. We mentioned that there is a second option. Dan Mullen. Mullen has been very successful in his second season at Mississippi State. However, our OSG source tells us, the school seems to not think Mullen worthy....yet.
One other name we are told has been bandied about. Tommy Tuberville. Yes, former UM Assistant and current Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville. Our source tells us that many of the alumni--former player alumni, are pushing for him to be considered.
We honestly don't know who will end up with this job. Right now its the highest profile one out there. However, it isn't nearly the job today as it was 10-years ago. The school, we don't think, realizes that. We'll follow this story and continue to update it as the Coaching Carousel moves along.
Here's Tommy Tuberville arriving at his current job:

Grinnell College Plays Bombs Away, Sets NCAA Record With 19 Players Hit 3 Pointers
The cords will burn whenever Grinnell College and Faith Baptist Bible College battle on the hardwood. Back on November 23rd the Pioneers and the Eagles faced off with Grinnell, an NCAA Division III school, winning 137-103.It was a record breaker for the Pioneers, 19 players made 3-point baskets. 19!!.
Click the link below for the official box score.
http://wm.grinnell.edu/athletics/mbasketball/statistics/MBK1011/1123fbm.htm
Poor Tyler Brotz, he was the only Grinnell player that couldn't hit for 3-point range going 0-6.
“I like this one, because so many people were involved,” Grinnell coach David Arseneault said in the Des Moines Register. “It’s awesome. I have a feeling that this is one record that will stand for a very long time.”
Grinnell was up 88-38 at halftime and coach Arseneault told his team to keep launching and go for the record.
“Nobody in the stands knew what we were doing,” Arseneault said. “There were times when someone would have a wide-open layup and then just dribble past the basket and pass the ball out. People were looking at us like, 'What is he doing?’”
Those of us at the OSG HQ are wondering "Where's the defense."

OSG Polls: The Dirty Dozen and Bottom of the Barrel: The Conference Champ edition
And that is why we come to the last week of this years Dozen. Sure, we'll do a bowl edition, but it isn't quite the same thing. It's been a fun year. Even if not too many folks actually read this, I have fun taking an hour out of my mornings to write it. This year, a year of some really strange happenings and a year, at least in our eyes...where there isn't one clear-cut, dominant Number 1 team.
Boise State did themselves in, others just faded. Either way the lords of the BCS are probably happy right now...unless Auburn and Oregon lose on Saturday. Hmmmm....
Since it is the holiday season, we think it's only fair to start with this:
And we'd be remiss if we didn't have our movie clip. The mission nears completion and not everyone makes it. See the thrilling conclusion:
Well, we didn't do so well last week, hoped for some upsets that didn't happen. 9-4 for the week, 131-29 for the season. We'll take that.
So to quote the great Casey Kasem: "Now, it's on with the countdown"
The Dirty Dozen:
1) Auburn 12-0. Yeah, they deserve it. The best comeback team in America. Sorry, NCAA ruling non-withstanding their season still has an odor to it. Cecil Newton basically admits he lied and he did try pimping out his kid for money. Mississippi State is probably in trouble, we wonder...still, if it is a matter of time before Auburn is in the same boat. This Week: SEC Championship: Auburn 35, S.Carolina 21
2) Oregon 11-0. It's in their hands. Win and you are in. The Corrupt BCS Championship game is there for the taking. They've done what is needed, but we still think they are a gimmick team. With a month to prepare, they can be beat. No Pac 10/12 Championship game...yet. This Week: Oregon 43, Oregon St. 21
3) TCU 12-0. On the outside looking in, but they'll be fine. They'll get a BCS game, the corrupt BCS has no choice in the matter. And they deserve it. This is a really, really good team. Next Game: Corrupt BCS Bowl Game
4) Stanford 11-1. The best of the "One Loss" teams. They've been really tough down the stretch, playing very, very well. In fact, well enough that they may lose their coach after this season. Yeah, Jim Harbaugh will be the next "It" coach. Trust us. Next Game: Corrupt BCS Bowl Game
5) Wisconsin 11-1. They finished on, well, a pretty good offensive roll. Sure, they are the best of the Big 10/12. The gaudy numbers the last couple weeks will seal that deal. Plus the 10 doesn't have a championship game for them to gag. Next Game: Corrupt BCS Bowl Game
6) Arkansas 10-2. This is where we drop a level. The Top 5 are the best 5 teams. They are better than anyone from here on down. Arkansas has rounded their game out a bit as the season wore on. Coach Douche' has done a good job, though the defense could use some work. Next Game: Possible Corrupt BCS Bowl Game
7) Boise St. 10-1. Try not to forget, haters, that if Kyle Brotzman hits a chip shot Field Goal and these guys are still undefeated and sitting at #3. We still think they are pretty good, better than the potpourri of Big 10/12 teams the Corrupt BCS ranks ahead of them. Hear me Gordon? This Week: Boise St. 45, Utah St. 21
8) LSU 10-2. The "Hatter" finally lost his mojo last week. This is a flawed team that Les Miles got the most out of and for that we applaud you sir. The question is, will the restless fanbase agree?. Next Week: Cotton Bowl
9) Michigan St. 11-1. We aren't totally impressed. They were lucky to hold off the "Joe Pa's" last week. Kirk Cousins is highly overrated. Still, we'll take them over Ohio St. Too bad the "Big 10/12" doesn't have a championship game. Next Game: Bowl Game
10) Oklahoma 10-2. Your enigma team. They probably should have been better than this, but we really aren't sure that is actually true. The defense has hurt them. A lot. But they got to the Championship game and really, that's all that matters: This Week: Oklahoma 38, Nebraska 37
11) Ohio St. 11-1. Yes, I know the pollsters love these guys. Yes, I know I hate them due to G.Gordon Gee...well, there are a few other reasons too. But really, they are overrated. They aren't that good. They'll gag in a close game. Trust me, I'm usually right. Next Game: Bowl Game
12) Virginia Tech 10-2. Somehow, someway, the survived a horrible loss to James Madison. They were easily the best of a really, really crappy ACC. They've gotten better as the year's gone by. As usual, they are solid, everywhere. This Week: Va. Tech 34, FSU 20
The Bottom of the Barrel:
We don't know what to do. Akron won last week. How can it be? They still are horrible, but they won with the pressure on. Damn them! I say!
5) Texas 5-7. They finish here due to being the NCAA's single biggest underachievers. We love it when a pre-season BCS pick tanks like this. It proves what we say about pre-season polls. They shouldn't exist. Well, we guess there is always next season when they'll be in the Top 20 again, trust me.
4) Buffalo 2-10. Wow, do they ever suck. How do you lose to Akron. Well, at least they can take solace in being in the bottom 10 of scoring....in the entire NCAA. Will they get better? We don't think so.
3) Kansas 3-9. How the mighty have fallen. Hmmm....We've got two teams from the "Big 12/10" here, wonder what that means? They just were bad. Bad in pretty much every category. We aren't betting on an offseason change either.
2) New Mexico 1-11. Okay, will the New Mexico State Legislature please spare the American College Football viewing public the pain of a 3rd year of Mike Locksley. Do you realize how much of a joke he's made you? Do you realize how bad your State's football is? Yeah, that's what we thought.
1) Memphis 1-11. We still think this is Karma. That's what Fred Smith gets for trying to buy this teams way into the Big East. Granted the East isn't such a great conference, but this is the worst team in Conference USA. By a large margin. The only question is will they be the preseason worst team in America next year.
This is what we think of when we think of the Memphis Fed-Ex'ers:

Donald Trump tells Miami to hire Mike Leach...rest of the world Laughs...

What exactly is Donald Trump good at? Bankrupting his own businesses? The man known for the low-rated TV Show "The Apprentice" and several recently failed business ventures is sticking his nose into football. Why? We don't really know.
Trump apparently sent a note to University of Miami president Donna Shalala recommending she hire his apparent friend Mike Leach. It appears that it isn't the first time he's made that recommendation.
Read more from the Palm Beach Post RIGHT HERE
Quite honestly, we like Leach, even if he is a bit of a crackpot. He was very successful before being relieved of his duties at Texas Tech. All because he allegedly forced Craig James's son to sit in an "Outhouse" type of facility during practice. That case is still tied up in litigation.
We've already done a bunch of stories about Miami's courting of Jon Gruden and while the folks down there still are dreaming of that, realistically, we aren't betting on it. Is Leach the answer then? Maybe. He might not be as crazy a pick as you'd think. He knows offense and knows how to ignite a fan base. The problem is he's prone to saying whatever on his mind which while sometimes a good thing, sometimes it isn't.
Here is Leach at his current job, working for CBS College Sports:

NCAA Speaks, Cam Newton Still Eligible
Tuesday Auburn declared quarterback Cam Newton ineligible for violating the NCAA amateurism rules. Wednesday after an investigation the NCAA declared Newton immediately eligible to compete."Based on the information available to the reinstatement staff at this time, we do not have sufficient evidence that Cam Newton or anyone from Auburn was aware of this activity, which led to his reinstatement." Kevin Lennon, NCAA vice president for academic and membership affairs said in a statement released by the NCAA. "From a student-athlete reinstatement perspective, Auburn University met its obligation under NCAA bylaw 14.11.1. Under this threshold, the student-athlete has not participated while ineligible.”
Auburn has limited the access Newton's father, Cecil Newton, has to the Tiger athletic program and Mississippi State has disassociated itself with former player Kenny Rogers, who along with Newton's father tried to actively market Cam Newton to Mississippi State.
“The conduct of Cam Newton’s father and the involved individual is unacceptable and has no place in the SEC or in intercollegiate athletics,” SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said in a statement. “The actions taken by Auburn University and Mississippi State University make it clear this behavior will not be tolerated in the SEC.”
With Cam Newton cleared Auburn's tremendous season will not be vacated and Newton can play in the SEC Championship Game and not fear the heavy hand of the NCAA.
Can anyone say "Hello Heisman!"

Maybe Chucky Is Interested In The Miami Job?
As brother Phil pointed out it seems things are moving along in Miami's courtship of Jon Gruden. Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt is reportedly meeting with Gruden today in Tampa to gauge his level of interest in the job. Gruden did cancel an appearance on Mike & Mike on ESPN Radioa Wednesday morning which would lead you to believe some kind of face to face will occur.Canesport.com, Miami's Rivals.com site, has reported that the final details are being worked out with Gruden and that barring a last minute change of mind Gruden will be the next head coach of Miami. The Miami Herald is citing University of Miami trustee's that the process with Gruden hasn't reached that point.
Below is the link to Wednesday's Miami Herald article.

Two members of the board said that Gruden is the top choice but are concerned he may wait for a job in the NFL.
Should Gruden show no interest Miami is expected to chase after Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen. When asked via text by the Starkville daily news if Mullen was a candidate for the Miami and the University of Minnesota job he wrote back via twitter, "with all the rumors, all I am mulling over is the flu and what bowl we are going too."
The Miami Herald quotes a Miami official on Miami's interest in Mullen,
``We would have to scrutinize that one. Is two years [of head coaching experience] enough? There's a difference of opinion on that.''
Should this process move along keep two names in mind, Tommy Tuberville and Randy Edsell. Many of the football players of the past would love to see Tuberville, a former Miami assistant, get the gig. Edsell is gaining traction as well.
More when we know more.
UPDATE:
The University of Miami sent an e-mail that there will be no press conference today and all reports are inaccurate.
WQAM radio in Miami has been all over this story. Below is a link to listen in.
