TWTW: For Utah, It's About Style Points, Too...

As they beat the pants off Colorado State 59-6...
And the HQ will get to answer the question we posed about Oklahoma STate in the coming weeks...
How will they react when they play "somebody...?"
Their next three weeks are: Air Force, TCU, and Notre Dame...
Jordan Wynn threw for 321 yards and three TDs...
"Everything was clicking. We feel fully prepared for every team that appears on our schedule," he said after the game.
The Utes, now 7-0 and 4-0 in the Mountain West, are 7-0 for the third time in the last seven years. In the 2004 and 2008 seasons, the Utes went undefeated and won BCS bowl games.
The HQ is unclear if that means we need to look to 2012...
"We're playing our best right now. We played a good game in all three phases, but we have a lot of tough challenges ahead of us, starting this week," Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said.

Another Upset From The Mountain West Conference: Colorado State Defeats Colorado
This one will fly under the radar but the Mountain West Conference got another feather in their cap when Colorado State stunned Colorado at Folsom Field in Boulder 23-17. It's the Rams first win at Folsom since 1986 and gave the MWC a 2-1 advantage over the Big 12 Conference (Texas A&M defeated New Mexico.)“We won in Boulder so this is huge. It’s a big lift and a confidence builder and big for Fort Collins.” Colorado State offensive lineman Cole Pemberton said.
“(The win) is still such a shock right now. I can’t even comprehend how big this is.” Colorado State quarterback Grant Stucker said.
Stucker, a senior, started his first game Sunday night for the Rams. Having only thrown t
hree passes in 3 years at CSU Stucker threw for 208 yards and a touchdown. Not a bad performance in the den of Folsom Field.

Colorado State head coach Steve Fairchild said. "I will certainly pat him on the back, because that is not easy to come to a place like this and playing like that.”
It was clear that Colorado is struggled in this game. The Buffaloes running game never got it going averaging 1.4 yards per carry. Buff starting quarterback Cody Hawkins was shaky going 24 for 41 for 222 yards and one touchdown and one interception but the younger Hawkins didn't endure himself to the Buff fans losing at home to what is perceived to be a weaker in-state rival.
Next up for the Buffs is a road game at Toledo Friday night. Colorado better regroup in a hurry or they might feel the Rockets red glare and head coach Dan Hawkins won't have fun explaining how the Buffs got into an 0-2 hole off the bat.
Back to Colorado State, the Rams are clearly a program on the rise in the MWC and ready to contribute to the success the MWC has against BCS schools.
Colorado is the only BCS team CSU faces this year but this win is a boost of confidence for the Rams. They will need to ride that momentum for a while for BYU looms in three weeks at Provo then 2 weeks later Utah comes to Fort Collins and then a trip to Ft. Worth to battle TCU is the next week.
The Mountain West Conference just got more entertaining.

The Mtn. Should Rise To The Top
Utah's 31-17 win over Alabama reinforces to me that the Mountain West Conference deserves BCS status. The league went 6-2 against the Pac 10 this year easily becoming the best league west of the Rockies.TCU can play with anyone. BYU has the tradition and the brand name in the conference. Bronco Mendenhall has the Cougars back elite status (at least in non - BCS circles). Colorado State won the New Mexico Bowl giving the MWC a 3-1 record during bowl season. The Rams seem to be back on the rise.
Now Utah's win over Alabama should put the stamp of approval on BCS status to the MWC. The Utes came out confident, executed their offense and stunned the Crimson Tide with their speed on the edges on defense sacking John Parker Wilson 9 times.
In other words, Utah didn't come out scared and completely overmatched like Hawaii did a year ago.
Should that move come at the expense of another league? Sure, take the Big East Conference for example. What have they done lately outside of West Virginia?
Will that happen? Probably not. To many large media markets in the Big East Conference. The powers that be and those who write very large checks won't let it happen.
Enjoy your year Mountain West Conference on the football field. You have done all the right things to move up in the college football food chain and you should.

Bowl Season Is Here
OK college football fans, get on your comfy clothes, park yourself in your easy chair and make sure you have the basics close by, chips, dip and your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). For the next 2 weeks you will be in heaven. It's time to go bowling.
Brother Phil has already covered the games, the match-ups and who he thinks will win and I'm taking his picks to Vegas, (just kidding, bad economy). Let me go a little more in depth if I may with the 1st batch of bowl games.
EagleBank Bowl - December 20th - RFK Stadium, Washington, DC
Wake Forest vs Navy (I like the Deacons in this one)
What Do They Get Don Pardo: Well the players from both schools will receive a Sony 8" portable DVD player with a carry case, a custom woven afghan with logo, an autographed football and a wool hat with logo.
The DVD player is cool and a wool hat is OK. Who has autographed the football? And a afghan for football players? A free Christmas gift for your girlfriend, mom, grandma, etc.
SWAG Meter: 3 (on a scale of 10)
Payout: $1 Million
Bowl Events: An evening at the ESPN Zone. (Guess who is televising this game?)
Final Analysis: Good match-up to start this bowl off. Wake Forest lost to Navy earlier this year so there is a revenge factor. Navy will bring the pomp and circumstance, Wake Forest will bring a few invited guests so there might be just a few empty seats at RFK Stadium but that's OK with the 4-letter word, it's just a TV show.
New Mexico Bowl - December 20 - University Stadium, Albuquerque, NM
Colorado State vs Fresno State (A Fresno State blowout)
What's Behind Door Number 1?: It's a backpack, an Oakley backpack for the players. Inside is an Oakley watch and an Oakley beanie. There's more, a RCA video recorder/camera, a New Mexico Bowl pen by Quill, a New Era cap and a year subscription to ESPN The Magazine.
Guess whose televising this bowl game too. The Oakley freebies sound good and who wouldn't want a camera. The rest re-gift.
SWAG Meter: 6
Payout: It's a secret
Bowl Events: Chili Cook-off at El Pinto. 6 players from each team are given 45 minutes to turn raw ingredients in chili. A panel of judges decided the winner. In the previous 2 chili cook-offs, the winner lost the bowl game. Now that's in depth information.
Final Analysis: Nobody east of the Rockies cares about this game. It's a reward in a way for the Rams and extra practices for the Bulldogs. It's a big event in Albuquerque so a big crowd will attend.
magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl - December 20- Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, FL
Memphis vs South Florida (Go with the Bulls)
What's In The Prize Box: Players from each team will get a Flip (digital video device), a Ogio bag, Sony headphones, a commemorative football, a beach towel and a bucket hat.
The Flip and Ogio bag sound cool, the rest is weak.
SWAG Meter: 3
Payout: No Comment
Bowl Events: A dinner cruise and a beach bash on St. Pete Beach.
Final Analysis: It's a home game for South Florida only in a different venue no doubt to inflate the gate. Memphis is just happy to be there and won't bring anyone. This isn't the Final Four. By the way, magicJack is a device you plug in to improve you cordless or cell phone reception. Operators are standing by.
Las Vegas Bowl - December 20 - Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas, Nevada
BYU vs Arizona (This is a great match up and should be a great game. I like BYU by a field goal)
Show Them What They Have Won: Players from both teams receive a Wii System, an Oakley Holeshot 3hd watch and a Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl hat.
Give away the hat, the rest sounds sweet.
SWAG Meter: 8

Bowl Events: Planet Hollywood Resort to watch Stomp Out Loud. Hard to top Las Vegas for entertainment
