Laurence Maroney May Have Some Legal Issues

The Denver Broncos running back and St. Louis area native was arrested and briefly detained Monday night after police responded to a traffic disturbance.

Much like he was during the season, Maroney was not hard to catch. Once police sorted out the incident, Maroney found himself in jail for weapons possession. Though his lawyer says he has a license. The lawyer didn't say anything about the fact that Maroney was tested for marijuana in his system.

If the tests come back positive. Mr. Maroney may have some 'splainin to do. If he truly does have the weapons permit, that charge will more than likely be dropped.

However, we suspect that the NFL will not look too kindly on him if there were drugs in his system. Maroney, largely considered a disappointment thus far in his NFL career, could have a whole separate set of issues to deal with besides the local constabulary.

This is really cool! In what has to be the most transparent job search process in, well, quite honestly....ever, the Denver Broncos are giving their fans...and others a unique look at the search for a new head coach.

The team has posted behind the scenes job search interviews and footage of so far, 2 candidates for the job,  interim coach Eric Studesville and Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell.

They are followed from their arrival at the airport all the to and through their interview with new Broncos executive John Elway and his search committee at Broncos HQ.

We are absolutely amazed in this day of uber-paranoid coaches and teams that they would actually do this. But we totally applaud the effort. As you know, there are very few secrets in terms of who is in line for a teams coaching vacancy, so why try and hide it?

We hope more teams will look at what Denver is doing and emulate it. It's a great idea. It keeps the fans up to speed. It gives them a unique look at the potential candidate that they never would normally get.

Jim Harbaugh Has The World On A String

Who isn't envious of Jim Harbaugh. You have NFL teams throwing millions of dollars at you to coach their team. Your alma mater wants to move heaven and earth to bring you back and your current employer might sweeten the pot too.

The University of Michigan just canned a head coach that was doomed before the inked dried on the contract. Harbaurgh is the chosen "Michigan Man" to repair the train wreck yet he doesn't seem to want to accept the role.

Three NFL teams are ready to offer Harbaugh with checks with a lot of zeros on them and willing to do whatever to sweeten the offer.

Damn sucks to be Harbaugh.

Wednesday Harbaugh interviewed for six hours with newly appointed San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke and team owner Jed York about their head coaching vacancy.

Executives for the Miami Dolphins are having "exploratory talks" with Harbaugh but their is no head coach opening with the Dolphins.

Sources have told the Sun Sentinel that the Dolphins have put a decision on the coaching staff in a holding pattern.

Tebow Is "The Man" In Denver

There has been a western expansion of Tebowmania but the orange and blue colors remain the same.

Tim Tebow will be the Broncos starting quarterback for the final two regular season games. Now the city of Denver has Tebowmania and his number 15 jersey is flying off the racks. (Thanks KUSA-TV Denver, CO)



Tebow has been named the Broncos starting quarterback for the last two regular season games. Tebow has only thrown for 138 yards however he did make plays with his legs last week against the Oakland Raiders.

Tebow survived taking shots in the SEC but the NFL is much more violent.

"You can talk to him about things like that but those instincts are just in him," Interim Broncos head coach Eric Studesville said. "Hopefully we can keep him healthy as long as possible doing those things because we know the violence of this game. But he plays this game how it's supposed to be played and some of that is him getting bounced around out there."

"I try to be smart in every situation. But sometimes my competitive nature can get the better part of me," Tim Tebow said "I'll try to be even smarter to make good decisions with my body."

As for the Bronco incumbent starter Kyle Orton, let's just say he's not happy. The reason why Tebow started last week against the Raiders was that Orton injured his ribs. Now Orton is fine but he will be holding a clipboard on Sunday against the Houston Texans.

"It wasn't my decision." Orton told the Denver Post. "There was nothing I could do. . . . The way it was presented to me was he'll be the starter the rest of the season and that's just how it goes."

Broncos CB Perrish Cox facing felony sex assault charges

And he's still playing. This despite being charged with sexually assaulting a helpless woman who wasn't capable of defending herself.

Yes, it sounds a little strange, but yet it isn't. It appears that Perrish Cox according to reports, forced himself on the woman and a complaint was filed, on October 28th. We are assuming that the investigation took some time as Cox wasn't arrested until this past Thursday.

Yes, I know we mentioned that Cox played in Sunday's game. Legally, he could. He was free on a $50,000 bond. According to league rules, the case can be investigated by the NFL and Cox could be subject to the league personal conduct rules. And in fact he still may be. But he hasn't yet.

The charges, which still could be either a 3rd or 4th degree felony depending on some of the semantics, could carry anywhere from 2 years to life in prison. And while we don't think Mr. Cox will get life, he better get a good lawyer because he's in a lot of trouble. We'll monitor and see just how much trouble that will be.

BREAKING: No Joshing...Josh McDaniels...You're FIRED!

Hmmmm.....we thought he'd at least make it to the end of the season. But we didn't say that, because we would have been wrong.

The Denver Broncos have asked now former head coach Josh McDaniels to "Leave the Building". The Broncos are 3-9 on the season and seemingly have gotten worse as the season has progressed.

Another factor was in play. Broncos owner Pat Bowlen was said to be livid after it was discovered that McDaniels friend and now former Video Coordinator Steve Sarnacchia was busted for taping the 49ers pre-game walk through before playing the Broncos in London, back in October. Sarnacchia was fired, McDaniels fined after the story leaked out a couple of weeks ago.

McDaniels, it was generally acknowledged to be in over his head. The once proud Broncos franchise has been in free fall, even before they fired former coach Mike Shanahan. They are now light years away from being competitive.

Personnel decisions like trading Peyton Hillis for #3 quarterback Brady Quinn and drafting Tim Tebow in the 1st round, got some peoples attention. The team itself, never put anything together. For his part, McDaniels is only in his early 30's and can still build credibility as a coordinator, his offense worked on occasion in Denver. We'll see if that plays out to be true or that and the video issue will haunt him forever.

McDaniels issued the following statement:
"I am very grateful to Pat Bowlen and the Broncos' organization for giving me the opportunity to be the Head Coach of such a proud franchise. I would like to thank all of the people who helped us over the last two years. I am especially appreciative of the efforts of every player, coach and member of the personnel department who worked so hard every day. I wish Pat Bowlen and the Broncos' organization nothing but the best in the future."

Broncos Video team investigated for possible "Spygate" part 2....With Update

If you don't know what I'm talking about, then think back to 2007 when the Video guys from the New England Patriots were accused of video taping the opposing teams coaching signals. It was called "Spygate" and everyone from the NFL to Senator Arlen Spector was investigating and looking for someone's head.

With that in mind, we get word today that the Denver Broncos, coached by former Patriots assistant Josh McDaniels, are being investigated for something remarkably similar. Oh, the head of video who's currently on leave because of the investigation, Steve Scarnecchia, he used to work for the Patriots too.

The specifics of this have something to do with the Broncos game against San Francisco earlier this year in London.

This may or may not turn out to be truthful, it's still be investigated by the NFL. But, it sure doesn't smell very good for the Broncos. Or more specifically, the ex-New England connection. McDaniels, has already struggled in his tenure with the team and with the lack of results, may find himself out of a job very, very soon.

Chcuk Cecil was known during his playing days as one of the nastiest hitters in any secondary in the NFL. He led with his head ((a lot)), and got fined ((a lot)).

Nowadays, he's the Defensive Coordinator for the Tennessee Titans, and some say he's still a little dirty- with his finger anyway.

He didn't like a call in today's game with the Denver Broncos and told the officiating crew exactly what he thought- not a surprise...

And we picked this version since it would, probably, get pulled last from The Shield.

Kenny McKinley remembered in his home town

Denver Broncos Wide Receiver Kenny McKinley, who killed himself last week at the age of 23, was remembered in his hometown of Austell, Georgia this morning.

Friends, teammates, coaches and others gathered to pay their final respects to McKinley who according to reports had been very upset at the thought of not being successful in the NFL. McKinley had starred at South Cobb High School and the University of South Carolina before being drafted by the Broncos in 2009.

There really isn't much else that we can add here. The incident is just a reminder of many things including recognizing potential signs of depression. It's a horrible thought that a 23-year old with so much ahead of him, didn't realize that.

DEVELOPING: Broncos WR McKinley Found Dead In Apartment, Suicide Investigated

The Arapahoe County ((CO)) Sheriff's office says Denver Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley has been found dead at his apartment.

Sheriff Grayson Robinson confirmed McKinley's death, according to the Denver Post.

"It was apparently a suicide, but we're still investigating," said Robinson, the Post reported.

"Everyone with the Broncos is shocked and saddened by the loss of Kenny McKinley," Broncos owner Pat Bowlen said in a statement. "He was part of the Broncos' family and will be greatly missed by our organization. My most heartfelt condolences go out to Kenny's family and friends."

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels released a statement: "Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room. This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

McKinley was a second-year pro who was on the team's injured reserve list. He played in eight games as a rookie last season with seven kick returns for 158 yards. He was drafted in the fifth round, 141st overall, in the 2009 NFL Draft out of the University of South Carolina. He attended South Cobb High School in Austell, Georgia.

McKinley's agent, Andrew Bondarowicz, told Fox31News/KDVR-TV in Denver that, to his understanding, McKinley was in the Atlanta area to visit his family and flew back to Denver Sunday night after watching the Georgia-South Carolina game.

According to Fox31's Josina Anderson, via her Twitter account, as of 10PM eastern time McKinley's body has been removed from his home in suburban Denver.

2300 UPDATE: Anderson was the lead on the 9PM News on Fox 31...
She has had contact from her "sources" who say that McKinley died from an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was found on the second floor of his Aurora, Colorado home. Anderson's sources also are alluding to worries on McKinley's behalf about his finances and depression over his second season on the Broncos IR list...

DEVELOPING: Tim Tebow realizes NFL Players hit back...leaves practice with Rib Injury

The man expected to revive the Denver Broncos sometime in the next couple of years and who is generally credited by Florida fans as being the greatest college football player ever, left practice Wednesday afternoon in Denver with a rib injury.

Tim Tebow, who has apparently been wearing a flak jacket the past couple of days in practice, jogged off of the field with the Broncos trainer. He had been involved in several running plays where he got hit very hard over the weekend when the Broncos played the Cincinnati Bengals. The most violent one, the last play of the game, where he scored a touchdown, but was hit hard by Bengals linebacker Abdul Hodge.

The injury at this point, is not considered serious, though if the ribs hurt that much, you may not be seeing Mr. 1st Round draft pick playing this weekend.

We don't harbor some of the ill will that others do to Mr. Tebow and respect him as a football player. However....he hopefully will learn that in the NFL, most defenders are every bit as big and every bit as fast and strong as he is. And they like to hit Quarterbacks who think they are tough. If he doesn't learn this lesson, his time in the NFL may be very, very short.

Clark Guilty In Darrent Williams Murder

Suspected Eastside Tre Tre Crips ((CO)) gang member Willie Clark has been found guilty of murder in the shooting death of Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams.

A Denver jury returned the verdict after deliberating for a day and a half.

Williams was killed on New Year's Day 2007.

Prosecutors said Clark fired the shots that killed Williams from an SUV that pulled up beside the limo carrying Williams, friends, and teammates. Prosecutors also maintain Clark was angry over an altercation involving his friends and Williams' friends inside and outside the Safari nightclub in downtown Denver.

Defense attorneys said Clark was being made a scapegoat and wasn't in the SUV.

Clark is now guilty of all 21 counts against him including first-degree murder/extreme indifference, first-degree murder/after deliberation and attempted first-degree murder.

The world isn't done with Clark.

Denver prosecutors have also charged him with first-degree murder in the death of a woman, Kalonniann Clark ((no relation)) who was about to testify in an attempted murder case.

He faces life in prison in that case if convicted at that trial.

Brandon Marshall Called To Testify In Darrent Williams Case

Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall was called to the witness stand in the Willie Clark murder trial yesterday.

Clark is charged with pulling the trigger in the death of Broncos defensive back Darrent Williams on New Year's Day 2007.

Marshall testified in court that he saw a confrontation in the VIP area of the Shelter nightclub between a group of Williams' friends and two other men. He said he did not see any champagne being sprayed ((as one version of the facts is being reported involving Marshall's cousin who was there as well that evening)). He and teammate Elvis Dumervil tried to make peace with the men. Marshall said he offered to buy the men drinks too.

Attorneys say Marshall never saw Clark or anyone in that group get into a white SUV. Police say the shots that killed Williams were fired from that kind of vehicle.

The defense tried to go after Brandon Marshall's testimony. Marshall described the suspect wearing sunglasses and a hoodie that may have been dark with some purple coloring. Defense attorneys showed a photo of a camouflage jacket connected to the case.

There are close to 50 other names on the witness list- including both athletes and those involved in the shooting of Darrent Williams.

The Grin Is In... Shanahan New Exec VP For Skins

According to the Denver Post and Mike Klis, Mike Shanahan will become the new Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the Washington redskins once pen is put to paper...

The Post also is claiming that the signing will be announced Wednesday...

The Post reports the Broncos will pay approximately $3.5 million in 2010 and in 2011 to essentially have Shanahan coach the Redskins. The website reports that will save Broncos owner Pat Bowlen about $3.5 million for each of those years.

The full deal is for five years at, roughly, the same dollar figure Shanahan was getting in Denver- US$7-million per season...
