Dolphins dis 'Canes by honoring Gators during game

Well, we guess it is a matter of perspective, but it is kind of odd.

The Miami Dolphins announced they will be honoring Tim Tebow and the 2009 University of Florida national championship team during halftime of the Dolphins vs. Broncos game on October 23rd.

Okay. That's swell. They are after all in the state of Florida.

But...that's not the rub. The rub is, they'll be doing it at SunLight/Landshark/Joe Robbie or whatever they call it stadium that both the Dolphins...and...wait for it, the Miami Hurricanes play in.

Okay, yeah, we'll just say it. Sure, Miami fans shouldn't be that petty. Surely there are some Gator fans in South Florida and certainly some from North Florida will make the trip down (a) to see their beloved Tebow and (b) because they are Dolphin fans.

But, yeah, if I'm a Hurricanes fan, I'd probably be a little pissed off. And while Tebow, along with Mike Pouncey of the Dolphins are the only 2 Gators playing in the game (though supposedly--Urban Meyer will be there too), they are going to get a lot of boos.

Lots of them.

But we wish the Dolphins luck, and while they are and will always be our favorite team, we don't pretend to understand many of the things they've done of late. And no, they haven't been successful.

Who knows, maybe we'll be wrong and this will payoff with a sell-out, but we kind of doubt it.

Tebow Is "The Man" In Denver

There has been a western expansion of Tebowmania but the orange and blue colors remain the same.

Tebow has been named the Broncos starting quarterback for the last two regular season games. Tebow has only thrown for 138 yards however he did make plays with his legs last week against the Oakland Raiders.

Tebow survived taking shots in the SEC but the NFL is much more violent.

"You can talk to him about things like that but those instincts are just in him," Interim Broncos head coach Eric Studesville said. "Hopefully we can keep him healthy as long as possible doing those things because we know the violence of this game. But he plays this game how it's supposed to be played and some of that is him getting bounced around out there."

"I try to be smart in every situation. But sometimes my competitive nature can get the better part of me," Tim Tebow said "I'll try to be even smarter to make good decisions with my body."

As for the Bronco incumbent starter Kyle Orton, let's just say he's not happy. The reason why Tebow started last week against the Raiders was that Orton injured his ribs. Now Orton is fine but he will be holding a clipboard on Sunday against the Houston Texans.

"It wasn't my decision." Orton told the Denver Post. "There was nothing I could do. . . . The way it was presented to me was he'll be the starter the rest of the season and that's just how it goes."

DEVELOPING: Tim Tebow realizes NFL Players hit back...leaves practice with Rib Injury

The man expected to revive the Denver Broncos sometime in the next couple of years and who is generally credited by Florida fans as being the greatest college football player ever, left practice Wednesday afternoon in Denver with a rib injury.

Tim Tebow, who has apparently been wearing a flak jacket the past couple of days in practice, jogged off of the field with the Broncos trainer. He had been involved in several running plays where he got hit very hard over the weekend when the Broncos played the Cincinnati Bengals. The most violent one, the last play of the game, where he scored a touchdown, but was hit hard by Bengals linebacker Abdul Hodge.

The injury at this point, is not considered serious, though if the ribs hurt that much, you may not be seeing Mr. 1st Round draft pick playing this weekend.

We don't harbor some of the ill will that others do to Mr. Tebow and respect him as a football player. However....he hopefully will learn that in the NFL, most defenders are every bit as big and every bit as fast and strong as he is. And they like to hit Quarterbacks who think they are tough. If he doesn't learn this lesson, his time in the NFL may be very, very short.

It's Still Tebow's World

The most dramatic day in Florida Football history occurred today when the University of Florida had its pro day. The reason it was so dramatic...at least for them: the debut of the "New and Improved" Tim Tebow and as we all know, everything in North Florida revolves around him.

Early reports indicate that he has done the required work and there was a difference in his mechanics and throwing motion.

The school opened the session up to the public and apparently several thousand showed up. Not only was the Tebow a featured performer, Joe Haden, Maurkice Pouncey and other soon to be drafted Gators were there as well. We might add that multiple NFL Coaches, GM's and scouts came to take a look too.

At this point the issue of Tebow and how he throws the ball is borderline lead story status in North Florida. We might also mention here that the NFL has invited him to come to New York on Draft day...though we aren't sure why. Will he be drafted? For sure. Will he be a 1st rounder? It would be a shock...a huge shock...OK maybe it wouldn't be if say the Oakland Raiders drafted him in the 1st round, but it would be a shock if anyone else did. But hey...who knows...we could all be wrong.

They flock to see the Tebow...

We reported a couple of days ago about the Tebow doing an autograph session in Jacksonville that you too could have attended...for $160. Well, it turns out you might have had some trouble attending it, because there was a huge crowd.

Yes, people were lining up a good 6-plus hours before the "Brush with Greatness" began at the Avenues Mall in South Jacksonville and yes, chances are if you were willing to wait, you got a picture and/or a signature with the guy who people in North Florida apparently feel is god or some derivative of him. (Yeah...I can't believe I said it either).

Okay. We, in a way understand the somewhat insane, crazed fixation the folks of North Florida have with Tebow. He is a local kid, yeah, we get that. Our question is...$160? We pontificated on it in the story from earlier in the week and we still ask it. Why would you spend that much money for anybody's autograph? Yeah, we know that he was one of the best college football players to ever live, but do you really think that you'll see that autographs value increase. 25 years from now, will people be floored that you got his signature?

How much would you pay to touch Tim Tebow?

Ok. We know that the legend that is Tim Tebow has become somewhat over the top...in fact it is almost bordering that kind of creepy territory.

Having covered and attempted to interview him a few times, sure, he isn't a bad kid and in some ways is what an athlete should be instead of some of the bad examples that we oh so often have to report on.

However, that being said...we came across a story this morning which is well...just plain scary. In Jacksonville, Florida this Saturday, people...quite a few people...have paid $160 dollars to get into an autograph session with the anointed one. THAT'S JUST TO GET IN! Then, if you want a photo...be prepared to cough up another $50. Sure, part of the proceeds are going to a charitable foundation but...ummmm (coughing noise).

So. How many people are uncomfortable with this? No, I'm not asking the Florida fans who are pretty sure that if the Tebow chose to walk on water that it would happen. I'm asking everyone else.

While we get his appeal to the Gator crazed folks in the state of Florida...most of whom are bandwagon jumpers. Yes, I said it. I grew up there and when I was a kid nobody wanted much to do with them. We think that this is a little much. We are all for players charging a marginal fee for them appearing and signing...it is done all of the time. All good. And we know that the Tebow is the target of people looking to make money off of his signature...it happens to athletes all the time. We are somewhat offended by the obscene amount of money that he...well his handlers are asking for this "Event".

The scary thing is that they have not had a problem selling tickets. Even in the depressed economy and even with tons of people out of work.

Having been around Tebow and his entourage many times, we understand why he needs some protection. Our criticism is more leveled at the psychotic and crazed Florida fans who have fed into this legend and don't seem to have a problem doing anything that either he or his handlers say. Come on...wake up folks. What's next? $1000 for him to leave your voice mail message? $5000 for him to drive by your house. $10,000 for you to mention his name or $25,ooo to look him in the eye? This is just kind of sad on a bunch of levels (yes, I know I'm gonna get hate mail from the Florida acolytes...I'm a big boy I can deal with it)....

TWTW: Bearcats Season Ends With Resounding Thud In New Orleans

Brother Phil gets to see things from the Northern Bureau these days, so he gets the perspective on how teams are screwed in the BCS standings and should regularly get the chance to prove their worth against the beeg boys...

The Brian Kelly-less UC Bearcats got their chance in the Sugar Bowl against the University of Florida and Corch Urban Meyers...

Go Gator...

But the HQ hates to break it to the Big East Conference on a few different fronts:

1) The Mountain West should get your slot as an automatic qualifier...
2) Losing Kelly did more for your psyche than you'll ever care to admit...
3) Yes, you have some good players on your roster. That we'll allow... But Florida has more good players on your roster than you have as a roster.

The end result was that the Sugar Bowl was over when Pedro Cerrano flipped the coin at the beginning. We think that the Tebow's quarterback rating was 472.

The HQ also thinks that incoming recruit RB Mack Brown ((Atlanta-ML King)) is, probably, right in his assessment as to when Corch Meyers is coming back. Meyers told Brown he'd be back in August, so Corch Meyers will be back in August.

The one event that would have made the whole night complete was if Cerrano addressed Tim Tebow like he recognized his presence once before ((at the 59 second mark)).

Because, as we all know, spending 15 minutes with Tim Tebow will make you a better person and make your life a better life...

The Gainesville Sun's Pat Dooley was one of a few people who was at the Georgia-Florida game ((or what there was of a game Saturday)) and got to see the 41-17 blowout.

For the second straight year, Georgia went home with a Gator beatdown on its resume, and for the 17th time in 20 games, the Bulldogs lost to the Gators.

The 41-17 win for Florida allowed the Gators to clinch a tie for the SEC East title. Florida clinched a spot in Atlanta in December when Tennessee beat South Carolina later on Saturday night.

"It was Senior Day and I'm going to make sure every senior gets a game ball," Florida coach Urban Meyer said. "That was one of the best team wins we have had at Florida."

Georgia is now 4-4 for the first time in, like, forever...

Tim Tebow directed a 69-yard drive in the final minutes, setting up Caleb Sturgis' 27-yard field goal with 9 seconds remaining that gave the top-ranked Gators a 23-20 win against Arkansas on Saturday.

On a day when little went right for the Gators, Tebow took over down the stretch.

He threw for 255 yards and a touchdown, ran for 69 more and saved his best plays for when Florida needed him most. He threw for 30 yards and ran for 22 on the final drive.

Three plays stood out: His 12-yard pass to Riley Cooper on third down and consecutive runs that gained 16 yards and got Sturgis well within his comfort zone.

A Tiger Stadium record crowd of 93,129 couldn't help the mistake-prone Tigers (5-1 overall, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) avoid a loss that ended their 32-game Saturday night winning streak in Death Valley.

Only a pesky red-zone defense kept LSU in the game as Florida's offense moved the ball at will between the 20s. The Gators rushed for 193 yards.

Tebow's 24-yard touchdown pass to Riley Cooper with 50 seconds remaining in the first half gave the Gators a 10-3 halftime edge.

That was enough for Florida because LSU's offense didn't muster anything after Josh Jasper's 18-yard field goal tied the game at 3 with 5:16 to play in the second quarter.

Hey, did you hear that Tim Tebow was injured or something...???
Something minor we hope... we never heard a thing about it...
But he did arrive at the stadium with a lot of people around him...

Down Goes the Tebow...

Maybe Tim Tebow is human after all. It certainly sounds like he hasn't had a very good week. He had to be flown separately to Kentucky because he had a "Respiratory Illness" along with a few of his teammates. There has been a lot of specualtion that he is one of apparently many Florida football players who may be suffering from the Swine Flu. Tonight, while leading the Gators to a rout of Kentucky, he takes a wicked hit in the 3rd Quarter...and had to be removed from the field on a cart. He was seen quite frequently later in the game...shall we say "Expelling projectiles from his personage".

It is interesting to read the difference in reaction from the Florida media, the Kentucky media and the National Media. The Tebow has been pretty much deified by all of them, the impression from the Florida Media is that he'll be fine for the Gators visit to LSU in 2 weeks. The Kentucky Media, since they got blown out seemed more surprised that it actually happened. The National Folks (4-letter word), will treat it as the lead story for the next two weeks.

Charlie Ward Was A Better QB Than Tim Tebow Says Bobby Bowden

Here's a juicy nugget from Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden. When asked who was the greatest player he ever coached Bowden responded by saying it was Charlie Ward. Then Bowden took it a step further. According to the Tallahassee Democrat Bowden talked about how he's asked if Tim Tebow the best ever.

"People keep asking me about Tebow," Bowden is quoted in the Tallahassee Democrat. "I don't know if he's better than Charlie. I don't think he runs better than Charlie. I don't think he throws better than Charlie. And Charlie only played two years for us."

You wonder how that is playing over in Gainesville?

You also wonder what kind of point guard Tim Tebow would be?

The Book of the Tebow

And so sayeth the Tebow...so sayeth we all. For on the 2nd day he was foisted upon us to impart the wisdom of the book.

Chapter 2, Verse 1, Question One: What is your favorite ice cream? And then the Tebow spoke: "Well, I kind of like Vanilla with Chocolate Swirl". And the room was a "Twitter" and the voices rose in unison "The Tebow likes Vanilla with Chocolate Swirl". And the acolytes from the village of Gainesville foisted upon the Publix and Kroger of the world the newest flavor of the ice cream "Tebow Swirl".

And then....the Tebow departed. And a crowd must gather and follow, with the blazing of the lights and the Tebow smiled, not a smile of disdain, nor a smile of happyness...but rather the smile of knowledge, knowledge that he is the Tebow. He is all knowing and we all shall bow to the greatness.

Chapter 6, Room 5, Interview 12. Question 2: Who dare dishonor the Tebow by not voting for him? Mind thee not the vote be insignificant, but rather why disrepect the Tebow by not allowing him to be the unanimous selection for the Team of 1st, of the SEC?

Chapter 6, Rooms 6-11, Interviews many. How dareth one of the wise elders known as the coach not continue the legacy of the Tebow? Thoughest the wise elder knows that the Tebow cares not, the wise elder disdains that the evil ones seem to.

Chapter 9, Rooms 1-3. The evil ones of the Letter 4 ask the wise elders incessantly? How dare the wise elder cast dispersions upon the Tebow! And the wise elders looked with disdain..."Why shall the Evil Ones be the only who care of such trivial matters?".

And so this poor peasant smiles at the legacy. For the Tebow is all knowing, though this poor peasant still poses the question of the ages "If the Tebow faceth off with the Norris of Chuck...whom shall be the victor?".

A Busy Day at Media Days

Today by far was the biggest and busiest day at the SEC Media Days in Birmingham, Alabama. Among the featured guests: Nick Saban, Tim Tebow, Urban Meyer, Mark Richt and Houston Nutt. All had...well they really didn't say much other than what you would expect them to say. Now that we have figured out that the official OSG Flipcam actually does have a small zoom, we were able to zoom a little closer. Unfortunately, the Flipcam doesn't have an audio input, so we had to deal with the same audio issues.

Who needs Percy Harvin?

The Florida Gators sure didn’t as they defeated the previously undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide 31-20 without their injured multi-threat start to claim Urban Meyer’s second SEC Championship and, presumably, the Gators’ second BCS National Championship game appearance in 3 years ((pictured, thanks to me)).

A sold out Georgia Dome, which included what had to be the entire state of Alabama, saw Florida QB Tim Tebow use lesser known Gators like Riley Cooper, David Nelson and Carl Moore to connect on 3 touchdown passes on his way to a 14 for 22 for 216 yard outing.

The Crimson Tide kept the game close until the end and kept the predominant Alabama crowd into the game with a steady running game from Glen Coffee (21 carries for 112 yards and a TD) and Bama QB John Parker Wilson (12 for 25 187 yds, 1 int) contributed to a balanced Bama attack by constantly finding freshman phenom Julio Jones 5 times for 124 yards, setting up the Crimson Tide for Coffee’s 18 yard touchdown run as well as a 2 yard run from Mark Ingram and two field goals (30,27) from Leigh Tiffin.

The Tide led 20-17 in the 4th quarter until the Gators’ Jeffrey Demps scored on a 1 yard run to give the Gators a 24-20 lead that would not be relinquished. This was also Tebow’s first ever win in a game in which the Gators trailed in the second half, as he was previously 0-5 in this type of situation.

As of this post, it appears that the Fightin’ Tebows will be playing in the BCS National Championship Game against an Oklahoma Sooner team that is absolutely manhandling Missouri right now. Nick Saban and his Alabama Crimson Tide are almost certainly Nawlins’ bound to play in the Sugar Bowl down in the Big Easy.

It's Tim Tebow's World

It’s Tebow’s World!

Well, I was looking for something to write about for day 1 of the SEC’s Media Days in beautiful Hoover, Alabama, and suddenly it became clear to me. Clear enough that I had to think about where I was, what I was doing and all that other clichéd stuff.

You see when I walked into the lobby of the Wynfrey Hotel, the clouds parted, the sun was a little brighter and I could see things closer than 5 feet away from me.

It’s amazing how things suddenly come into focus when you are around people from outside the area from which you live. Part of the fun of “Media Days” is standing around in crowded conference rooms waiting for people to appear for interviews. While partaking in this merriment, you tend to strike up conversation with the folks around you. And, if you are lucky enough, sometimes those folks will tell you about things that you didn’t know.

I was fortunate enough to be in a room populated by several crews from the Florida area. The guys, all very nice, told me about the “Legend” of Tim Tebow. Tebow you see is apparently everything that personifies a “Legendary” athlete. So much so that there is now a mythology that goes along with him, one that includes several websites (check out the link hyah!)

Looking for Clues

So the first clue that I was in a different place was the gathering in the lobby. Little kids and grown ups all with his jersey, all waiting for him to appear.

The second clue was the cameras. Not 5, not 10 but 20 all poised waiting to get a glimpse. And then he arrived…and all sprang to action, only to see him ushered to an elevator, away from all.

The third clue, another group of cameras, lights ablaze and walking at strange angles, all following him, all looking for the magical shot: Tim Tebow WALKING!

Really Nice

I have to admit, he really is a nice kid. He finally made his way into the room of cameras and patiently answered his fifth set of 10 minutes of questions. He answered them all and answered well. He actually said the football was only a “Means to accomplish an end” not “What he is about”. I can respect that.

Heck, anyone who spends his off-season/downtime traveling on missions to the Philippine Islands and mentions his favorite accomplishment this spring as “Assisting in Surgery”, how can you not respect that. I mean heck, it sounds like a freakin’ comic book, but it really is true. The only thing he hasn’t done at this point is run out onto the field in Blue Tights with a Big “S” on the front.
