Janzen Jackson's time on the Tennessee campus has always been somewhat checkered...
Two years ago, it was because of an attempted armed robbery charge. Back in February, he announced his intention to bolt, but returned to think he could play in July...
So much for that idea... Jackson is gone, done, and otherwise out the door...
ESPN's Chris Low is sayingthat Jackson has fialed multiple drug tests during his tenure...
Coach Derek Dooley said in a release...
"Our program has devoted a tremendous amount of energy, resources, support, and care in an effort to help Janzen manage his personal challenges. I will always be there to help him as a person, but there comes a time when a player's actions preclude him from the privilege of playing for the University of Tennessee football team.
"Although I'm disappointed with this outcome, we will never compromise the long-term organizational values and goals we maintain here at Tennessee," Dooley said.

Offseason Trouble season begins in Knoxville

Sunday, head coach Derek Dooley had to suspend one of his players, a starter, safety Brent Brewer. Brewer was charged over the weekend with domestic assault.

Derek Dooley Volunteers A Bunch Of Changes
Vols head coach Derek Dooley announced that by "mutual agreement," defensive line coach Chuck Smith will not return to his position for the 2011 season and will pursue other career opportunities.
“I am grateful for the personal investment, hard work, and passion that Chuck contributed to our program this past year,” said Dooley. “He is a dear friend to me, and more importantly, will always be a part of the Tennessee family.”

Then, a lot of roster moves are on the horizon...
Sophomore safety Janzen Jackson has voluntarily withdrawn from the 2011 spring semester for personal reasons.
“We are continuing to support Janzen as he addresses his personal issues during this temporary withdrawal from school,” Dooley said in a release. “While he would still be eligible to compete if he enrolls this fall, nothing is more important than Janzen’s personal well-being.”
Also, freshman defensive back Ted Meline has permanently withdrawn from school for personal reasons. Linebacker Jerod Askew has been dismissed for a violation of team rules. Junior defensive back Art Evans has been reinstated, and junior center Cody Pope will no longer participate in football for medical reasons.

Smith apologizes to everyone, apparently legal issues aren't issues in Knoxville...

According to a follow up story published today, Smith apologized to "teammates; victim says 'I just want to move on from it'.
His coach, Derek Dooley says the assault charge will have no bearing on Smith's status for Saturday's game. Smith's arraignment hearing is November the 10th.

Okay, we get that he's sorry he beat the guy up. Although the victim is not sure yet whether he accepts the apology.
We however have questions. One that NOBODY has asked. Was Smith drinking? Why...and more importantly how...as an 18-YEAR OLD was he able to be in the bar at 2am? Was he drunk at the time of the incident? Why...and how did the Knoxville police department manage to butcher the original press release on the incident, listing the wrong location and the wrong name of the victim? Why has none of the Knoxville media asked ANY of these questions?
The coach says that he doesn't need to enforce a curfew...ok...what about the underage drinking? Yeah, we get that college kids and teenagers do it, but that doesn't make it legal.
The message that we get is that if you are a good football player in Knoxville, you can pretty much do whatever you want. But that fact, isn't a surprise.

After three quarters in Columbia, South Carolina, Tennessee and South Carolina were tied at 24.
The Gamecocks then hit Alshon Jeffrey on a 70-yard touchdown and added a one yard Stephen Garcia run to keep Carolina in control of its destiny in the SEC East.
South Carolina is 6-2/4-2 in conference play with Arkansas and Florida left on their schedule. A win over the Gators would give the Gamecocks their first SEC East division crown.
Yeah, good luck with that one...

BREAKING: Dooley Compares Vols To Germans During Normandy

In his weekly press conference, Vols head coach Derek Dooley compared his inexperienced team's struggles to the Germans during the Allied invasion of Normandy.
Dooley specifically referenced the Americans landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day and the Germans' slow reaction.
Or, at least, his interpretation...
Dooley said "...we're like the Germans in World War II ... like, 'Oh my God, the invasion is coming."' Dooley added that he didn't "want the German people to get upset at me. I'm not attacking (them), but that's what happened."
Decide how you want to feel about it...

Bryce Brown's Dad Planning On Suing Vols And Dooley

The father of former Tennessee/wannabe Kansas State running back Bryce Brown is planning to sue Derek Dooley and the University of Tennessee.
Arthur Brown, Sr. said he is filing suit because Dooley refused to grant his son a release from his scholarship. The Brown family wanted Bryce to transfer back to Kansas State because of behavior he was exhibiting that they considered "alarming."
Whatever that means...
"This has nothing to do with football," Brown said on Sports Talk, a show which airs on WNML Radio in Knoxville. "This was a situation to where myself and my wife was concerned about the mental and physical state of my son."
Possible translation: not enough playing time...
Brown said he first told Dooley in March of his desire for Bryce to receive a release. The younger Brown, who is practicing with Kansas State, must pay his own college tuition this season up until the point that Tennessee releases Brown from the scholarship.
"Those kids are not just a tool to be used," Arthur Brown said. "If [Dooley] really cared about...Bryce being successful, then why not take the way [my wife and I] feel into consideration?"
Actually, they always have been tools to be used... that's the system...
And if the Browns don't have the money to pay for Bryce to go to school, there's something called a GSL. The HQ went through a good lot of those in school.

Derek Dooley Denies Bryce Brown Release

Bryce Brown thinks he's going to Kansas State, but as of right now, Vols head coach Derek Dooley is not giving Brown his release from his scholarship at Tennessee.
Derek Dooley told GoVolsXtra's Austin Ward that he's not going to grant Brown a release.
Remember, Brown left Knoxville without asking for a release and sent Dooley a text message informing him of what his current intentions are. There is, according to Ward, a meeting scheduled between the two early next week to settle the issue once and for all...
"As with the other players who have asked for a release, I went through the same process with the same criteria with Bryce," Dooley said in the article. "These are the three key factors - what their personal investment into the program was, did they have their heart into it and did they give it a good, fair shot. No. 2, the harm that their departure creates for the organization. No. 3, how they handle it as a professional."
Brown will have to pay his way through school this year. He can still jump to K-State, but he can't be placed on scholarship as he gets his year to sit out at the same time.

It appears that the highly-sought after Wichita-based running back Bryce Brown has checked out of Knoxville, taking the towels, the robe, and the TV remote with him.
He did so without having a face-to-face discussion of the matter with Vols coach Derek Dooley...
The HQ is not shocked by the lack of maturity and class by an individual who only wished attention on himself from the day of his college declaration.
Talk is that Brown wants to transfer to Kansas State to be with his brother to play for Bill Snyder. Snyder will have no problem accepting Brown once the kid has the stones to ask for a release from the University of Tennessee...
Once again... "Once" he asks for the release... it still has to happen...

DEVELOPING STORY: Victim In UT Brawl Comes Forward; Rogers Named In Assault, Denies Charge
((HT: GoVolsXtra- Hickman, Jacobs, Stambaugh/WBIR-TV)) The Knoxville Police Department released two more reports on the Bar Knoxville assault case Tuesday.
One is bad for the prize recruit Da'Rick Rogers, the other is still trying to figure out who kicked and beat an off-duty KPD officer.
We're working a few different stories at the same time here... bear with us...
KPD was called to Bar Knoxville to investigate an assault. They were told by an "Ian Cox" that he had tried "to detain the suspect (Rogers) for another assault that had taken place on the sidewalk."
From GoVolsXtra and the incident report:
Cox told officers that Rogers "pushed him and attempted to hit him while attempting to stop Rogers from leaving," the report states, but "Cox had no injuries and was adamant about not prosecuting."
"While trying to detain Rogers, officers briefly struggled with him, but (he) was later taken into custody without further incident," the report states.
Rogers has not, to date, been charged with any assault.
The incident report on the assault of KPD officer Robert Capouellez still is tied to an unidentified male aged 18-to-30...
Vol Chase Nelson is accused of starting a fight with 20-year-old bar patron Gary Russell. This is, according to the timeline, the first incident that started all the others. Russell tells Chris Low, in his ESPN piece, that he can only positively identify Denarius Moore and Montori Hughes in the case.
Hughes' lawyer has denied his client starting anything and only acted when provoked...
WBIR caught up with Chris Low, who interviewed Russell...

The Bosch Law Firm released the following statement:
This office represents Da'Rick Rogers concerning the allegations and charges occurring on July 9, 2010.
Da'Rick adamantly denies any claims by the alleged victim that he assaulted him or any one else that evening.
He did not, in any way, assault anyone at anytime that evening or in the early morning.
Da'Rick will address the allegations in his misdemeanor warrants at the appropriate time and looks forward to demonstrating his innocence as it relates to those charges. He has done nothing wrong and the public and media accounts about his behavior have in large part, been inaccurate.
No further statements will be made at this time
Obviously, if the Bosch firm feels media statements have been inaccurate (in large part), it would have been nice to know exactly which statements fall into that category. And the HQ looks forward to seeing the demonstration of Rogers' innocence by Rogers in something resembling open court...

Vols coach Derek Dooley announced he is dismissing sophomore safety Darren Myles from the program. Dooley also indefinitely suspended sophomore defensive tackle Marlon Walls and sophomore linebacker Greg King.
Gregory P. Isaacs, Vols DT Montori Hughes' attorney, said that his client hasn't been interviewed or charged by law enforcement in connection with the fight that sent two people to a hospital, including an off-duty Knoxville police officer. Isaacs also maintains Hughes was attacked by a patron "without provocation."
"Our investigation has revealed that the UT football players did not start the altercation at the establishment," Isaacs said. "Importantly, Montori Hughes was assaulted by an unknown patron for no apparent reason, which was the catalyst of the altercation."

Vols Myles Arrested After Orange And White Game
For being somewhat drunk and disorderly...allegedly...
What is it the HQ says about anything happening after 2AM...???
The Knoxville-News Sentinel relays that Darren Myles was arrested early Sunday morning outside the club "sobu."
Myles ((pictured, thanks govolsxtra.com)) was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was jailed in lieu of $1,500 bond.
Knoxville Police Department spokesperson Darrell DeBusk told the News-Sentinel:
"Officers observed Myles being drunk and disorderly and riding on the hood of a vehicle in the parking lot,” DeBusk said. “Myles resisted arrest and started fighting with the officers as they were attempting to take him into custody,” no officers were injured during the incident.
DeBusk said Myles “had a strong smell of alcohol on his person and was unsteady on his feet.”
"I am disappointed in Darren’s behavior,” Vols head football coach Derek Dooley said in a press release. “We are conducting a thorough investigation to determine a proper course of action.
“We will continue to implement our structures to educate, discipline and support our student-athletes so that they represent the University of Tennessee with class and integrity.”

The former Number one recruit in the country was a no-show as the Vols took the field under Derek Dooley for the first time on Thursday afternoon. On Wednesday, the coach indicated Brown hadn't approached him about possibly leaving...
"As of now he's not a part of the team," Dooley said.

Steele stays at Clemson...thanks but no thanks...
It appears the reports of Clemson Defensive coordinator Kevin Steele heading to Tennessee to join Derek Dooley's staff were a bit premature.
All the indicators and several published reports said Tuesday it would be happening and there would be an "Official" announcement today. We should know better. How many times did that happen in the Head Coaching search at UT? More than we can count.

According to reports, Steele, a former Vol player was considering UT's offer when Clemson made a counter offer and after talking to the team, Steele decided to turn down Tennessee's offer and stay at Clemson.
Though a financial incentive was offered, we respect Steele for staying true and not just jumping ship because he could. While we respect the Derek Dooley hire at Tennessee, it looks like he'll have to go elsewhere to help round out his staff

BREAKING NEWS (AGAIN) Louisiana Tech Booster: "He (Dooley) Is Gone," Scelfo To Be Named Interim Head Coach

The Monroe ((LA)) News Star ((Hilburn, Guilbeau)) is reporting that Dooley is resigning to take the Tennessee job and quotes a booster:
“He’s gone,” said Steve Davison, one of Tech's most influential boosters and a friend of Dooley. “Now we have to make another good hire. Coach Dooley was a good hire for us, and I’m confident we’ll make another one."
Tech president Dan Reneau is set to meet with members of the athletics council at this hour to discuss what is going to happen next with the Bulldog athletic program.
"I'm very appreciative of what Coach Dooley has done for us," Renau said. "He's given us a good foundation to build on and we wish him well."
ESPN's Joe Schad is reporting that Frank Scelfo will be named interim head coach in Ruston. The school will use a searchfirm and a four-person committee to determine the new coach for Louisiana Tech.
Louisiana Tech spokesman Malcolm Butler says Dooley has resigned as coach and athletic director to go to Knoxville...
Tennessee plans to introduce Dooley at a press conference on campus Friday night.
And, like that, mercifully it's over...

The Gannett newspapers out of Louisiana- and there are five of them in Shreveport, Monroe, Alexandria, Lafayette, and Opelousas have Louisiana Tech head football coach and Athletic Director Derek Dooley "close to" heading to Knoxville full-time...
According to Guilbeau, Dooley apparently cancelled end-of-the-year players meetings Wednesday and has met with Vols officials over the last two days...
Dooley comes at the recommendation of Texas head coach-in-waiting Will Muschamp. Muschamp coached with Dooley at LSU and the Miami Dolphins form 2001-2005 as part of the Nick Saban staffs in those years...
Dave Hooker and the govolsxtra staff are in sync with this even as Kippy Brown was to have interviewed with Mike Hamilton at 1:00 EDT. There is no conformation that the interview actually took place- or will take place...
