Why Is Evander Holyfield Still Fighting...???

The short answer is: "Probably, because he needs the money..."

At the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia, Holyfield was trying to win the WBF heavyweight title from Sherman "The Tank" Williams...

From all indications, Holyfield was winnig the first two of three rounds, but after a head butt and a "clash of heads," the fight was declared a no contest...

Holyfield wants a rematch...
Ugh...

"I'll just have to make an adjustment," Holyfield said. "I've had 11 setbacks [counting Saturday's no-contest] but I don't quit. I'll shake it off and I'll be back."

Holyfield's next scheduled fight is in Denmark on March 5 against Brian Neilsen.

Holyfield Wins At Age 47

Evander Holyfield stopped Frans Botha in the eighth round to win the WBF heavyweight title Saturday night.

The HQ would really like to know what the "WBF" actually is...???

Holyfield, now 43-10-2, knocked down the 41-year-old Botha, now 47-5-3, with 2:36 left in the round with a right to the chin.

Botha beat the count of referee Russell Mora, but almost thirty seconds later Mora
stopped the fight with Botha backed into a corner. It was Holyfield's 28th career knockout.

Two judges had Botha ahead 67-66 when the fight was stopped. The other judge had it Holyfield 69-64.

Only boxing...right...???

There was a reported crowd of 2,200 in the stands at the Thomas &
Mack Center on the UNLV campus for the fight- most rooting for Holyfield.

Generating solar power...
Yep... solar power...

He says he plans to build a solar energy farm on 40 acres of his property in Fayette County. The project, which is in the preliminary stages, would generate solar power for commercial sale, and would take six to nine months to complete.

Holyfield says he wants to help combat global warming...

“I think it would be fantastic news,” said Walter Brown, chairman of the Georgia Solar Energy Association. The amount of power a project of that size would produce, he said, would be significant.

Holyfield Estate Faces Foreclosure

For the second time in a year, Evander Holyfield’s palatial Fayette County estate is under foreclosure ((pictured, thanks John Spink/AJC)).

A notice published last week in the Fayette Daily News revealed the former heavyweight boxing champion is in danger of losing his 109-room Fairburn mansion. The lien holder is demanding full repayment of the original $10 million loan, with an auction scheduled for July 7 on the Fayette County Courthouse steps.

Last June a foreclosure notice was issued for the manor at 794 Evander Holyfield Highway, but “The Real Deal” was able to strike a deal to stay in his home, which sits on 235 acres just south of the Fulton County line.

The 46-year-old Holyfield also has a second Fayette property, at 592 and 596 West Bridge Road, under foreclosure, with an original loan amount of $216,000.

Holyfield has grossed more than $248 million in the ring, but two divorces, several failed business ventures and child support payments believed to total $500,000 annually have taken a toll on his financial well-being.

The father of 11 last boxed in December, losing to WBA champion Nikolai Valuev in Switzerland. His last significant payday came in 2003, when he received $5 million to fight James Toney.

Asked about his finances last June, Holyfield said, “I’m not broke. I’m just not liquid.”

Broke or not, Holyfield is unlikely to sell off any part of his estate. The mansion, which has its own bowling alley and movie theater, is worth an estimated $20 million, and according to Holyfield it costs more than $1 million annually just to maintain.

“To attack that house in any way, or suggest he get rid of it … that’s just not going to fly with him,” Holyfield’s former accountant Sam Gainer said last June. “That’s his trophy, his symbol of success.”

Holyfield Gets One Last Title Shot

Evander Holyfield is 46, can't pay off his loans and owes child support to.... I lost count how many kids he has. So Holyfield will continue to throw punches to make some cash and get a title shot.

Holyfield will fight 7 foot Russian Nikolai Valuev for the WBA heavyweight championship December 20th in Zurich, Switzerland. Why Zurich? Because of general lack of interest in the U.S. I guess the Russians were interested either.

Valuev wasn't committed to fighting Holyfield because on one cared however, no other bouts materialized. so the Russian reconsidered. (Look at the photo. Valuev looks like Sasquatch. Good luck Evander)

Organizers are hoping the bout will be on pay-per-view but that doesn't seem likely Sure, dish out $49.95 for this freak show. Maybe an intimate gathering will pay many Euro's and spread the word about this bout. Has boxing reached the depths of hell or what.

Holyfield will make only $600,000 for the bout. Are you kidding me. 6 hundred grand to fight that beast. That's what happens when your brain gets beat in way to many times.
