Sidney Crosby's Busy Night

((HT: CBC/NHL/MMatt9999))

Sid The Kid had a busy night Friday, but that's what the playoffs are for...

A save, a goal, and an assist...

The goal gave the Pens their first point on the board.
We pick up the game with Item Number Two on our shopping list...

Bob Cole got to do the honors...

And that's how a series gets tied at a game a piece...
Simple, really...

Yeah, right...

"Satellite Hotstove" Takes On Coyotes Situation

((HT: CBC/NHL/Hockeyhaven76))

The "Satellite Hotstove" on CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada" is required viewing for the ins-and-outs for the NHL.

Ron McLean, Pierre LeBrun, Mike Milbury, and Glenn Healy lay the land for the deal. The prevalent opinion is that Glendale brought in Reinsdorf and not the other way around. Naturally, a lot of the league owners aren't happy...

Healy was really fired up... as well he should be...

Here's the segment, thanks to our friends at the CBC...
Healy starts at 2:40

And the Atlanta Thrashers discussion is vital after the Coyotes discussion as well.

Theo Fleury: Playing With Fire

Probably in more ways than one...

The book is out and the media tour commences in earnest today...

Here's an early snippet of an interview Fleury did with the CBC's Bob McKeown on the "Fifth Estate" program. It's analyzed by Jeff Marek and Scott Morrison during the Hockey Night in Canada past...
((HT: CBC))

And it does look like Fleury is wanting to throw Graham James under any train he can find...and put him back in jail...

Your Satellite Hotstove For October 3rd

((HT: CBC/NHL))

"Hockey Night In Canada" kicked off the season with a lovely version of the Hotstove.

It was McLean, Milbury, Healy, and Strachan talking about Phoenix, the NHLPA, and anything else they could cram into nine minutes...

Those of us at OSG HQ perked up our ears at Strach's comment about money in Winnipeg chasing after the Thrashers...

We're efforting...
More when we know more...

Bettman Versus McLean= TV Gold

((HT: HNIC/CBC/NHL/crazieman76))

This is what happens when one of the best TV personalities in the business squares off against The Bettman during Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals...

Guess what topic came up at the 4:00 mark for the rest of the segment...
Hold on to your seats...it looks like Ron wants to get to Bettman from 21 Jump Street

So, then Jerry Moyes is trying to sell something he doesn't own...???
Got it...
The club was "never in jeopardy...?"
Got it...
Yikes...

The NHL's Version Of The "Number One Salute"

((HT: CBC/NHL))

During the second period of last night's Detroit-Chicago game, CBC's PJ Stock did what PJ Stock does... stirs things up a little bit.

Slide through to the 4:55 mark and you'll actually hear PJ get away with using the word "putz" on the air... Gotta love that kind of latitude from your bosses...

Funny moment, and an equally funny PJ...

Your Weekly Coach's Corner...With Rebuttal...

((CBC/Crazieman76))

Now, Donald S. sides with Sidney Crosby...? Over Alex Ovechkin...?
"Somebody's gonna get him... Somebody's gonna cut him in half..."
It kicks in at the 3:45 mark...

Ha!!! Tremendous viewing as always...

Caps Coach Bruce Boudreau fired back on Sunday...

"He's a friend of mine. And he's an idol of mine. I mean, I love what Don Cherry has stood for, for 30 years. I just think that even the smartest people in the world are wrong sometimes, and I just thought he was wrong," Boudreau said before Washington's game against Florida on Sunday. "Because he doesn't know Alex like we know Alex."

"As much as I really like the guy, I thought he was wrong," Boudreau said. "He's pro-Canadian, and there's 33 million Canadians that love that, as anybody would. And if I was sitting at home, I'd be going, 'Yeah, yeah, Canada!' But I just happen to be in the same business as him, so I see it a little differently."

The one thing, above all else, that Donald S. is and always will be is pro-Canadian.
But those of us at OSG HQ also believe in having fun. If someone wants to cut Ovechkin in half, let them do it- and then answer to Donald Brashear. If Ovechkin "learns" from the experience, he learns. If he puts people in the seats for Ted Leonsis, that's what matters to Billionaire Ted.

We believe in acting like you've done it before and will do it again.
But we're also not all that Puritannical about our celebrations, either.

"The Bitch Didn't Mean A Thing To Me..."

((HT: As always to, crazieman76/CBC))

There's only one guy who can say it, mean it, and get away with it...
Donald S. Cherry- at the tail end ((pardon the pun)) of the segment as he's talking to his dog, Blue, back at the house. Blue did not make the trip to Campbellton, NB for "Hockey Day In Canada."

Totally, completely awesome...

Homecoming King: Sundin Returns to Toronto

The easiest thing to do from Saturday is just to take the night chronologically...
Former Toronto Maple Leafs captain Mats Sundin returned to the post office in an unfamiliar set of colors. He was coming back as a member of the Vancouver Canucks...

Here's how the night started... courtesy of our friends at Leafs TV...
Here's the first segment of the pre-game show...hosted by Jody Vance...

And here's how it ended... like it was supposed to end any other way...

10 Years Ago: The Last Game at the Gardens

Maple Leaf Gardens, genius...
And, yeah, so what if the Blackhawks won the last game there. We know if would have been a nice touch...

Those of us at OSG HQ can't believe it has been that long. The old barn was unceremoniously replaced by the post office around the corner- The Air Canada Centre. The irony doesn't escape us, either, that since the team left they still haven't come anywhere close to doing anything since they found the wreckage of Bill Barilko's plane.

MLG is still in great shape from what we hear from Howard Berger and his article from the National Post. We laugh and point an index finger at MLSE.

The Loblaw's grocery store chain still has the property. And they still haven't been able to pull off that multi-use project they wanted when they picked up the lease.

We wag another index finger, laugh, and ask Dikembe Mutombo to explain your faulty logic. We also follow that with a hand to the belly for unending support as we chuckle.

Here's Part 1 of the closing ceremony.
There's always a good excuse to see the CBC's Ron McLean in top hat and tails...
((HT: CBC/NHL/the youtube))

Tim Wharnsby follows with an article for the Globe and Mail
We commend all of you for remembering what matters and not leaving history behind...

Happy Birthday Grapes

All of us at OSG would like to say Happy 75th Birthday to Donald S. Cherry. If you are a fan of Hockey Night In Canada on CBC, you know who I'm talking about.

Here's Don Cherry last week in his "Coaches Corner" segment.

Grapes is a fashion plate. A big thumbs up to a 75 years young man who is very passionate about hockey.

PJ Stock Is Such A Good Teammate...

This is what we were talking about with all the hub-bub around the word "pansification" from Saturday. In the "After 40 Minutes" part of the program during Game 2, it's PJ Stock's responsibility to navigate those treacherous waters known as the "game highlights."

And go through them quickly...
But he couldn't resist one last dig at Mike Milbury since everyone else wanted a piece of him...
The number posted camera right may be legit or not...
Call and decide for yourself, but Ron McLean's reaction is well worth that of a ringmaster...

The "Pansification" of Hockey

And, so, we go back to the beginning...

Here's what started the whole thing...
First, it's Mike Milbury using the word and then Ron McLean interviewing Helen Kennedy of Egale Canada about the vocabulary. A delicate dance to be sure, but great television nonetheless.
