Friedgen Asked To Retire...???

But now that James Franklin is going to Vandy, there is talk according to Schad that Ralph Friedgen may be asked to retire and accept a buyout. Remember, the Terps saved a million bucks by not having to name Franklin head coach after all...

When Franklin jumped, AD Kevin Anderson was asked about Friedgen's future ((or lack thereof)), and he wouldn't bite. Three assistants are going with Franklin to Nashvegas as part of the deal.

The names that are giving Schad-enfreude are: Mike Leach, Tyrone Willingham, and Mike Locksley. All three are scaring the HQ into thinking that there HAVE to be better names out there than Locksley- at least.

Kevin Anderson, if you believe in higher powers: Mike Locksley...???

DEVELOPING: Locksley To Return In 2011

Mike Locksley is returning next season as New Mexico's head football coach- much to the outright dismay, consternation, and disgust of the remainder of the civilized world.

The announcement was made on the school's athletics website. Lobos AD Paul Krebs says he has finished his evaluation of the football program and determined that Locksley will return.

Mainly, Krebs didn't say, because the school can't afford to buy him out at the moment- especially after the governor's office cut 8-million off the university budget for next fiscal year.

That, and any high-powered booster that is left doesn't want to buy Locksley out.

Krebs says the announcement was made "to quiet speculation about our head football coaching position." Krebs says it's important for recruits to know Locksley is coming back.

Once again, what Krebs didn't say was that any recruit in his right mind would flee quickly in the other direction with the divulging of these details...

The Lobos finished 1-11 for the second straight season under Locksley, who was hired in December 2008.

Krebs says neither he nor Locksley are satisfied with results on the field, and he says both of them expect to see improvement in 2011.

Yeah, good luck with that one...

Freshman QB Andrew Manley engineered a last-second drive to set up a Tyler Stampler field goal as New Mexico State reinforced the notion that the University of New Mexico should blow up their football program, winning 16-14.

The Aggies, who moved to 1-4 on the season, knocked UNM to 0-6.

Teddy Feinberg of the Las Cruces Sun-News gets the line of the night declaring that both teams, for most of the game "both looked as if they were avoiding the win altogether..."

While the HQ is pleased that the Lobos can lay claim to most of the offensive output of New Mexico's football programs Saturday ((20 of the state's 23 points)), they still gave up 38 to Texas-El Paso and 14th-year quarterback Trevor Vittatoe.

Head coach Mike Locksley is now 1-16 with New Mexico and is still not fired...

Mad Scientist To New Mexico...??? Rumor For Now...

The HQ has trumpeted the long-overdue jettisoning of UNM head football coach Mike Locksley ever since he popped an assistant coach last season.

He's 1-14 and his team is truly awful-and-a-half...

Reports have, somewhat, surfaced about the supposed firing of Locksley- finally- after the New Mexico State loss upcoming on the 9th of October.

It, of course, depends on who you believe...

John Taylor at CollegeFootballTalk.com reports, through Brooks, that Leach’s attorney ((Ted Liggett)) said today that there’s “zero truth” to discussion that his client may be hired by New Mexico as football coach.

Brady Ackerman of ESPN Radio in Gainesville also reported, via his Twitter account, “Mike Leach just told me this is the first he’s heard of the New Mexico rumor.“

It all goes back to a report in the Albuquerque Journal, from Mark Smith and Greg Archuleta, that has a former AND from KRQE-TV, Gerges Scott, reporting on his Facebook page that his sources are telling him of the Locksley firing...

Remember, just in the past few weeks, Locksley's run-in with a UNM student newspaper reporter came to light. And the best quote of the whole thing comes from the university their own selves...

"Had we understood there was going to be a big media crush after the fact, and had we known that, Mike would have kept the video on hand," the UNM spokesperson said.

Pardon the HQ as we cough into our hands and mumble something unintelligbly...

Another Locksley Run-In...??? Depends On Who You Ask...

Let's just say the timing of the story is really interesting... or just plain, damn convenient...

Apparently, over the summer our favorite death-pool head coach may have gotten involved in a tete-a-tete with a student newspaper editor at a local Albuquerque sports bar.

When Locksley was told the story was going to hit the papers, he went to the sports bar to get the surveillance tape from the night in question.

The tape was reviewed by UNM officials, and when the local non-campus paper got wind of the story, they asked to see the tape as well. When the student paper tried to go through the same steps, their request was denied...

A Posse Is Forming In New Mexico For Mike Locksley

Not that those of us in the OSG HQ are shocked but the Lobo Nation is already tired of Mike Locksley, who has won one game as New Mexico's head coach. Locksley career record is 1-13 heading into today's game against Utah.

How bad are the Lobos? They have given up 124 points in two games.

In Albuquerque they say its time for a change.

New Mexico's athletic director says publicly that nothing is going happen until after the 2010 is complete. Those of us at the OSG HQ are buying that. New Mexico football is becoming a bad joke and something has to be done to regain the confidence in the fan base, especially those who are "major" donors to the program.

Our guess is in a few weeks either Locksley is going to get the boot or an announcement will come from the AD saying Locksley will not be back for 2011.

The HQ has long maintained that New Mexico head coach Mike Locksley should have lost his job after a disastrous first season that included, allegedly, slugging an assistant coach and just... how do we put it...???

New Mexico Admits Fault In Locksley Probe

UNM President David Schmidly and Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs conceded the university bungled the probe into whether football Head Coach Mike Locksley punched out receivers coach J.B. Gerald.

However both Schmidly and Krebs denied any intent to cover up whatever happened when a Sept. 20 coaches meeting turned physical. And while Schmidly said mistake after mistake was made, no one will be punished for not following policies.

Still no one will be punished.

"The last time I looked, we don't have a flogging pole on this campus," Schmidly said. "We tried to treat people fairly and with respect."

Schmidly said he's embarrassed and upset about what happened but still stands by Krebs. And he hopes this is the end of it.

"Looking you in the face and in the eye right now, I believe it's all out there," Schmidly said. "But I'm learning to never say never."

JB Gerald: Locksley Choked And Hit Me

ESPN's Mark Schlabach has been chasing the whole JB Gerald-Mike Locksley altercation and plans on reporting more on it Sunday on the four-letter. He has, apparently, unearthed some stuff that may support Gerald's claims...

ESPN tracked down the Albuquerque police reports...

"Next thing you know, he's jumped into my lap," Gerald said. "He put his hands around my collar and neck and was choking me. He's pulling me up out of the chair, and I grabbed his hands so I could get them off my neck."

At that point, Gerald said, New Mexico quarterbacks coach Tee Martin and offensive tackles/tight ends coach Cheston Blackshear grabbed his arms to pull him away from Locksley. Mike Degory, who coaches the team's centers and guards, was trying to restrain Locksley, Gerald said.

"All the coaches kind of rushed over, and Tee and Cheston grabbed me by my arms and Degory grabbed Locksley," Gerald said. "But Locksley's hands were free and he was just throwing punches. He was throwing punches and hit me right in the mouth. I could taste the blood in my mouth."

According to an Albuquerque Police incident report, a copy of which was obtained by ESPN.com and "Outside The Lines," Gerald suffered a split upper lip and scratches on his arms.

Remember... all this stuff got Locksley suspended from coaching the New Mexico game against UNLV- which really may have saved Locksley more Pepto-moments since they couldn't even beat the Rebels.

New Mexico has, consistently, been at the Bottom of the OSG Barrel this season on the "OSG Sports College Football Preview Show"

But, hey, UNM denies anything more than a scuffle...

UNLV did what they were supposed to... beat a team that's worse than they are...

The Lobos fall to 0-7 on the season, and 0-3 in the Mountain West Conference. The Lobos have lost 11 straight going back to last season.

New Mexico was without the services of first year Head Coach Mike Locksley because he was still serving a 10 day suspension for his role in an altercation with receiver's coach J.B. Gerald.

Next up for New Mexico is a trip to San Diego to play the Aztecs...

Greetings Sports Fans...we are back for another week of America's favorite College Football Game Show, "The Dirty Dozen and the Bottom of the Barrel".

Now that the season is hitting its midpoint, things are beginning to shake out. We should see the first of the BCS polls coming up here in the next week or so...and they may not be what everyone thought that they would. We are seeing that there are a couple of really great teams and mostly a lot of very good ones.

The Dirty Dozen:

1) Florida 5-0 (Well, much to nobody's surprise, the Tebow played and the Gators won. But, they won because of the Defense rather than with the Offense...that is what is a bit scary. Don't look for them to have much trouble down the stretch, the fun begins in December in Atlanta. This Week: Florida 41, Arkansas 31)
2) Texas 5-0 (Only by a thread. A lot of people think that last week there minds were on this week...The Red River Shootout. Maybe, I still don't totally buy them in this spot and we will find out if they are worthy this week. This Week: Oklahoma 37, Texas 26)
3) Alabama 5-0 (I've argued for the past couple weeks that they are the best team...when it is all said and done...don't be surprised if I am right. This Week: Alabama 20, South Carolina 10)
4) Boise State 5-0 (If you are undefeated and have played well, you deserve to be higher ranked than teams with a loss. So they stay here. They will take care of business from here and are legit, even if the big boys thumb there noses at the schedule. This Week: Boise St. 38, Tulsa 27)
5) Va. Tech 4-1 (OK, I know, I've been hard on them. They aren't bad, the offense just hasn't been there early on. It showed up against BC though. The road doesn't get any easier for them, but luckily they play in the ACC. This Week: Va. Tech 27, Ga. Tech 26)
6) TCU 5-0 (Yeah, I know I just broke the rule I put in the Boise St. discussion. Again, a really tough team that can run with the big boys. In fact, they may prove out to be better than Boise. At least one of the teams ahead will fall. This Week: TCU 24, Colorado St. 20)
7) Cincinnati 5-0 (I don't know how you drop so far in the big polls without even playing. I still think this is a very good team even if they do play in the Big East. They may not be better than Florida or Alabama but can run with anyone else. This Week: Cincinnati 37, S.Florida 35)
8) Iowa 5-0 (Well, so far they haven't taken the inevitable choke that they normally do. Maybe this year they'll get past it? A solid team with a chance to win the 10, we will see if they can pull it off. This Week: Iowa 31, Wisconsin 17)
9) USC 4-1 (They are taking care of business and getting healthier as they go. There are still some holes on this team (mostly they are young). They, not surprisingly kicked Cal's ass. This Week: USC 40, Notre Dame 31)
10) Ohio State 4-1 (Don't know how they are higher than USC in some polls, USC beat them. They still haven't proven anything to me. They beat Wisconsin mostly because Wisconsin beat Wisconsin, the Buckeyes didn't do it. This Week: Ohio State 27, Purdue 10)
11) Kansas 5-0 (They get here by virtue of not losing so far. They haven't wowed anyone, but they haven't lost either. Give Mangino the HuThis Week: Ktt credit, they are competitive pretty much every year. This Week Kansas 42, Colorado 21)
12) LSU 5-1 (The offense still isn't quite there. Florida really made them look bad. Still, I wouldn't want to play them down the stretch this season. This Week: BYE)

The Bottom of the Barrel:

5) Washington St. 1-5 (Well, things have returned to normal since there stunning win over SMU a couple of weeks ago. They still suck and will for some time. They escape some ridicule only because the other teams here haven't won at all yet. This Week: Bye 31, Wash. St. 10)
4) Western Kentucky 0-5 (They climb by virtue of at least keeping their game close. Nobody else below them can say that. This Week: La.Lafayette 37, WKU 14)
3) Bald State 0-5 (Yawn! Is it Basketball season yet? Will they beat anyone this year? Doubtful. This Week: Bowling Green 26, Bald State 21)
2) Rice Krispies 0-5 (They've got neither snap, crackle nor pop. They are just a really bad team. Did someone use too much milk with them or something? This Week: E.Carolina 45, Rice 10)
1) New Mexico 0-6 (Can this year get worse for the fighting Locksley's? Maybe with him getting suspended for a game, they might win it. Nah! They just are a really bad team with a coach in wayyy over his head. This Week: UNLV 31, The Locksley's 20)

Last Week: 12-1...not bad. Overall: 55-19...Respectable don't you think?

Locksley Suspended One Game

At least we now know the going rate...

New Mexico Lobos football Head Coach Mike Locksley has been suspended through the team's next game, according to a report on ESPN.com.

The Web site, citing a source close to the coach, reports that Locksley will be suspended without pay for a period through the Oct. 24 home game against the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

He won't be allowed contact with the team during the suspension, ESPN says.

Locksley has been under investigation for allegedly striking wide receivers coach J.B. Gerald during a team meeting on Sept. 20.

A news conference is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Mountain time.

Yeah, especially since UNM Head football coach Mike Locksley was cleared in the sexual harassment claim against him...

Grow exactly "what" we have no idea, though...



All he has left is to find out what happens when the University releases their findings in the alleged assualt on receiver coach JB Gerald.

According to the Daily Lobo, however, Gerald isn't hanging around for the details...

"Athletics Director Paul Krebs confirmed Sunday that Gerald turned in his University-issued cell phone and car keys on Friday."

What a lovely ship Krebs is running these days...

Locksley's Problems Continue

It seems as though Mike Locksley, the New Mexico Head Football Coach who among other things punched one of his assistants and split his lip is not out of trouble just yet. After A.D Paul Krebs reprimanded Locksley on Monday he took a LOT of heat for letting him get by with the proverbial "Slap on the Wrist".

Well, now comes word that Krebs has forwarded the information to the schools Human Resources Department for further investigation. The investigation, which will look into the incident, including the fact that the assistant JB Gerald filed a complaint with Police, could possibly lead to Locksley being terminated.

Considering how bad the Lobos have played this year and all of the trouble that Locksley has brought with him, don't be surprised if they part ways...soon. It's hard to believe that Krebs initially tried to say "Bad Coach" and leave it at that, but at least he got around to following up, though he was probably pressured to do so.

Locksley hits Assistant Coach

Mike Locksley just can't seem to avoid trouble. This time, he apparently got into a fight with one of the assistant coaches on the New Mexico Lobos staff, one J.B Gerald splitting the coaches lip. Sadly, this was confirmed today, rather than it being just a rumor. New Mexico's Vice President of Athletics Paul Krebs talked about it in a press conference today saying "In this business it is not uncommon for coaches to have heated discussions," he also said "Having said that, we cannot condone Coach Locksley's actions. You simply cannot put your hand on another coach."

Sadly, this isn't the 1st problem that Locksley has had since taking over New Mexico's football program. Worse, he has produced pretty much no results, the Lobos are already 0-4, coming close only in their last game vs. New Mexico State. He has been reprimanded for the incident and says that Coach Gerald is "welcome back to the program". You really have to wonder here if Locksley may be in over his head. Granted the Lobos haven't exactly been a "National Powerhouse", but if you are trying to build a program, you generally want someone who will stay out of the headlines for his off the field behavior.

Locksley Files Defamation Charge

New Mexico coach Mike Locksley has filed a defamation lawsuit against an Albuquerque lawyer, the latest round in a legal tug-of-war that is overshadowing preseason workouts.

Locksley filed suit Tuesday, one day after attorney Whitney Warner disclosed details of an age discrimination and sexual harassment complaint submitted earlier by her client, former football administrative assistant Sylvia Lopez.

Locksley's attorney, Turner Branch, said Wednesday the remarks attributed to Warner in an Albuquerque Journal article reflected "extortive pressure" aimed at forcing the university to settle the harassment claim.

Warner told the newspaper Locksley fired the 54-year-old Lopez because she wasn't "a younger gal" who could entice recruits.
