By the way, the NBA held its draft Thursday night

The Cleveland Cavaliers were obvious big winners, if for no other reason than they had the 1st and 4th picks. They took Duke point guard Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson, a forward from Texas.
NCAA Tourney MVP Kemba Walker went 9th to Charlotte and the big headline grabber was the Sacramento Kings trading with Milwaukee to get the 10th pick which they used on the Jimmer, Jimmer Fredette.
Another interesting tidbit: The Morris twins, Markieff and Marcus went 13th and 14th to Phoenix and Houston respectively.
And yeah, they held a second round too, those picks were guys who will be bench fillers and NBDL players for the most part. The NBA Draft isn't like the other sports, it only lasts two rounds and really, there isn't a ton of drama involve.
We won't go through and grade everyone for the simple fact that if we did, we'd probably have to give every team involved an "Incomplete" since the season may or may not happen and in the NBA more so than the other leagues, you really have to see how they fit in before you can say how successful they can be.

*Updated*-They aren't leaving/To Leave or Not To Leave: That is the Sacramento Kings question....

**11:43 a.m. The Orange County Register reports the Sacramento Kings will not be coming to Anaheim's Honda Center. They cite officials who say the Maloof's have already let them know.

Co-owner George Maloof apparently told the Sacramento Bee late last night that his family has made a decision on whether they will keep the team in California's capital city or move it to Anaheim. However he qualified it by saying they needed to tell the NBA first.

The other reason for today's decision. The 2pm deadline the NBA has given them to file a request for relocation. Hmmm...yeah, that would be a good motivator.
The Bee does a nice job of breaking down possible scenario's for the Kings, because apparently even if they file for the move, they need a majority of the leagues owners to vote for the move in order for it happen.
It also appears that if things don't work the Maloof's way, they have a buyer who would like to purchase the team. That move would keep them in Sac town.
We hope they haven't extorted the city enough to get a new arena out of it. We're pretty sure, like most cities these days, Sacramento has much bigger financial issues then trying to fund an arena for owners who don't want to pay for it themselves. The city is looking into it, but we hope that move fails.
We'll monitor this story and bring you a story later today when things unfold.

Kings Staying In Sac-Town...???

Dunno...
Kevin Johnson, former NBA'er and current mayor of Sacramento, has just survived two days of meetings with the relocation committee- led by Oke City owner Clay Bennett- and, now the Kings' home next year seems to be in some kind of question...
Our friends at News10 try to give us some kind of answers...
The HQ is fairly confident that the Kings-Royals could work in Anaheim- despite the protestations of Lakers head coach Phil Jackson. The plan is in place, and we're still thinking that the move to the OC is somewhat inevitable...
This is, probably, the last chance of last chances doing that whole "due diligence" thing...

DEVELOPING: Anaheim Approves Funding For Kings
The Anaheim city council unanimously approved the long-rumored US$75-million bond deal in their attempt to try and bring the Sacramento Kings south to the Honda Center.
Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait continues to say that there are NO FINANCIAL PROBLEMS and there won't be any public dollars spent.
Samueli also manages Honda Center, and he's putting his own money into a deal for upgrades to Honda Center and other moving costs. The money is rumored to be $25-million in the upgrades.
The Kings must file for relocation with the NBA by April 18.

The city of Anaheim and the Samuelis think that $75-million can get the Kings to Anaheim post haste...
Improvements to Honda Center would be capped at $25 million, while transition costs couldn't go over $50 million.
Part of the deal is that the city of Anaheim is the only name associated with the Royals if they jump Sac-Town. There will be no "Los Angeles Royals Of Anaheim" or anything like that...

How Does "Anaheim Royals" Sound? Not Good In Sacramento
It beginning to look as if Southern California will get a third NBA team. This one playing in Anaheim.
It's a outcome Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson seems to have resigned himself to.
Rumors have been flying this season that the Sacramento Kings were leaving California's capitol city. Confirmation that it was more than just rumors came from none other than the NBA's grand poohbah David Stern.
Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait confirmed Tuesday that negotiations are ongoing with the Kings to bring the franchise to Anaheim where they would play at the Honda Center.
"This is something this city has been waiting 18 years for," Tait said in an interview with the Orange County Register. "I am very excited."
In his blog Johnson, who you may remember was an all-star guard for the Phoenix Suns, wrote, " First we heard from NBA Commissioner David Stern, who said rumors about the Kings’ talks with Anaheim were more than rumors."
"Next was the decision by the Kings not to share financial market data with the team of professionals selected by the City Council to study the feasibility of our new entertainment and sports complex.
"Then we saw the Kings playing games in “Royals” uniforms – supposedly to celebrate their history when the club was based in Rochester, N.Y., and Cincinnati from 1948 to 1972."

And it looks as if "Royals" would return. Earlier this month the Maloof brothers who own the franchise filed for a trademark with names. Among the names filed for according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office's website were: Anaheim Royals, Anaheim Royals of Southern California, Orange County Royals and Los Angeles Royals. The filing was made on March 3rd. The Maloofs have until April 18th to file with the league for relocation.
The Kings have been a transient franchise. The team began in Rochester, NY as the "Rochester Royals before moving to Cincinnati in 1957. In 1972 they franchise changed their name to "King" after moving to Kansas City. They kept the "Kings" nickname for their fourth move to Sacramento in 1985.
They would have to change back to "Royals" since the Los Angeles Kings play hockey up the road in downtown L.A.

NBA Gives Sacramento An Extension To Keep Kings

The NBA has granted the Sacramento Kings an extension on the deadline to file an application for relocation. That relocation would be immediate and the team is looking at, possibly, Anaheim, California for their new home.
The league announced that the Kings will have the opportunity to discuss their options at the NBA Board of Governors meetings set for mid-April. The team will have until April 18 to decide if it plans to relocate. The team had filed for an extension last week since the deadline is typically March 1st.
Sacramento has struggled for years to build a new arena, which Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof argue is critical for the team to stay.
Period...
The larger question is: Would the local arena survive in its current form if the Kings became the Kings of Anaheim...??? Or would Sacramento survive as a market for any kind of athletic endeavor...???

Kings' Cousins Reportedly Suspended

Sacramento Kings rookie center DeMarcus Cousins has been suspended by the team for Sunday's game against the Phoenix Suns, according to a report by Sam Amick of AOL Fanhouse.
Cousins did not accompany the team to Phoenix, but no one could confirm that any kind of disciplinary action had yet to be taken with Cousins.
Amick also reported that the call to remove Cousins from the team's plane and suspend him came directly from Kings GM Geoff Petrie, after a run-in between Cousins and teammate Donte Greene after Saturday night's 99-97 loss to Oklahoma City.
According to Amick, the tete-a-tete had to do with the way the team ran the final play where Tyreke Evans missed a three pointer that would have won the game with 5.5 seconds remaining.

Kings owner Maloof arrested for DUI

There are several jokes in here that we will try and avoid. It seems as though on of the owners of the Sacramento Kings, George Maloof was busted for DUI over the weekend.
Maloof and his brother own the NBA team, but live in Las Vegas. Among the charges along with DUI, speeding, an illegal turn, driving without a license and no proof of insurance. The obvious questions being: One, does he have a driver? Two, no insurance????

Speed Racer has nothing on Tyreke Evans
We first told you about Tyreke Evans' attempt at driving fast back on June 1. READ THIS.
Now, flash forward two months later...it turns out there is video of said incident. And it doesn't paint a very good picture...other than the fact that his car can go fast and he's good at avoiding traffic, cops and everyone else...at least for a few minutes. Yes, if you look at the video, it would appear that he is racing.

Needless to say, this probably is making the Maloof brothers a bit nervous. They own the Sacramento Kings. The good news, Evans was very contrite and apologetic. He seems to understand he did something really stupid. Let's hope its the last time.

Tyreke Evans likes to drive fast...
Tyreke Evans of the NBA's Sacramento Kings moves fast. So fast in fact, that he ended up being the best rookie in the NBA this past season.
However, apparently, young Mr. Evans also likes to drive fast. So fast, that the California Highway Patrol clocked him at over 100mph on I-80 on Monday night.

Apparently Mr. Evans was in a hurry to get to a local park to play a game of basketball. The CHP was not amused. They finally caught up to him at the park and performed a felony stop since the Mercedes that Mr. Evans was driving had dark-tinted windows and they couldn't see in.
The good news for Evans, he was very cooperative and apologetic and wasn't under the influence of any substances. The bad news, he's now got a reckless driving ticket on his driving record.

McGrady Headed To Gotham
The New York Knicks have acquired Tracy McGrady and his massive expiring contract in a three-way dance with the Houston Rockets and the Sacramento Kings.
The Knicks will also get Sergio Rodriguez from the Kings, though the hook of the deal was McGrady and his expiring $23 million contract.
The Rockets will get guard Kevin Martin and forward Hilton Armstrong from Sacramento and forward Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries and draft considerations in 2011 and 2012 from New York.
They're also relieved to have finally found a taker for McGrady, the troublesome seven-time All-Star they've been trying to shop for almost two months.
The Kings will also get New York guard Larry Hughes and Houston forwards Carl Landry and Joey Dorsey. The draft considerations Houston gets will have the right to swap first-round picks with the Knicks in 2011 as well as take on New York's 2012 first-round pick.
