Or Karen Sypher... or Karen Cunagin... we're not really sure what she ID'ing herself as these days...
But you've really got to thank public documents requests like the one the Louisville Courier-Journal went through to get info on the whole Pitino-Sypher Saga ((both pictured, thanks WDRB-TV))...
Turns out Pitino admitted in a police report that he did, in fact, have sexual relations with that woman- Ms. Sypher-Cunagin Sypher-Cunagin after he had been drinking at the Porcini restaurant. Pitino also admitted to giving, um, Karen $3,000 for an abortion in 2003.
Cunagin-Sypher filed charges alleging that Pitino had raped her, but the more evidence showed up, the more Sypher was getting herself in to trouble. She ended up being indicted by a federal grand jury on extortion charges.
"Sgt. Andy Abbott said in an investigative summary that Sypher failed, for example, to disclose that another person was at Porcini Restaurant when she said the first incident occurred.
That witness, Vinny Tatum, an executive assistant to Pitino, told the FBI that he didn't see what happened but heard “only the sounds of two people that seemed to be enjoying themselves during a sexual encounter,” according to Abbott's report.
Abbott said records also indicate that Pitino was in California when Sypher claimed he sexually assaulted her a second time.
“The more information I gather, the worse it looks for you,” Abbott told Sypher during a July 13 phone interview, according to a transcript of the call."You know it's never good when a cop is telling you something like that...
Karen's stories continued to differ and waver and the end result is below...
