Former Detroit Lions Head Coach and NFL player Monte Clark passed away last night at a Detroit area hospital. Clark, who coached the Lions for 6+ years also was an assistant coach for a variety of NFL teams. He was on Offensive lineman for 3 NFL teams in a career that spanned from 1959-1969.

Clark had health issues for the past several years. His ties to the Lions remained strong, he was a consultant for the team from 1999-2008. In his run as Head Coach, the Lions had some of their greatest successes, making the playoffs in 1982 and winning the division in 1983. The Detroit Lions and the NFL have lost one of their old-school best.
