The HQ knew that the Nashville Sounds' Logan Schafer could use his head, but what is below is ridiculous...
If you're scoring at home, or even on the road, the HQ thinks that is an 8-4-3 triple play...
Milb.com caught up with Schafer...
"I felt like I didn't have enough time to turn around and I reached up my glove. [The ball] went straight up, hit me in the head and I tried to scoop it up. It was a whole lot of luck and it was pretty crazy."
Yes, it was...

Minor League Manager Stubby Clapp blows a gasket
((ht:eye-on-baseball))
Why is it that minor league baseball managers have the best arguments with umpires? There is a history from Philip Wellman on back, they all seem to blow a gasket to the "N-th" degree.
Monday night, the manager of the Class A Tri-City ValleyCats had a world class explosion. Manager Stubby Clapp (Yes...Stubby) gets angry when it appears one of his players is hit by a pitch. The umpire disagreed. And let's just say, Stubby, he didn't agree with the ump. Chaos followed.
Check out the video from FOX23 Sports:

Play-By-Play Guy Quits On-Air...
((HT: ByKenLevine))
The HQ has known about people retiring on the air or some things like that... getting the chance to say good-bye to an endearing audience...
But we think this is the first time that someone has gone ahead and quit on the air, and of course, it was in the minor-minor leagues...
In something called the "North American Baseball League" ((Which we found out was a merger from the Golden and United Baseball Leagues of years past)), the North Division Lake County Fielders had their manager quit and had 11 players not play since they hadn't been paid yet...
All that was left was the play-by-play guy to head out the door...
((HT: youtube))
Qumar Zaman, we don't think, will be out of a job soon...
The Lake County Fielders rival Atlanta Spirit for their futility as an ownership
Hey, did we tell you that we wrote some books...???

Pretty intense Minor League Baseball fight
![]() |
| Basebrawl/Courtesy: KREM-TV |
Usually baseball players, if they end up in a brawl/fight on the field don't exactly get too violent. They swing there arms--well, flail might be a better word and don't seriously hurt each other.
That didn't happen Monday night at the Spokane Indians/Vancouver Canadians game in Spokane.
Here's what happened. Spokane's Rougned Odor (strange name), was trying to break up a double play at second base, his slide...was a bit late. As he left the second base area, there was some shoving and then, the punches started being thrown.
If you keep watching the video, about 45 seconds or so in, you'll hear a big crowd roar...the camera pans over to see what appears to be Odor, laying face first in the dirt after being dropped.
No doubt, there will be some serious suspensions here.
For what it is worth, Vancouver won the game 9-5.
Here's your video thanks to the good folks at KREM-TV in Spokane:

Amazing video: The Human Home Run
((ht: myfoxboston.com))
Sometimes, you just can't make stuff like this up. Really.
MyFoxBoston brings us some video of Dave "The Bullet" Smith being launched some 195 feet Tuesday night at the Lowell Spinners baseball game at LeLacheur Park.
Watch and be amazed!

Phillie Phanatic goes down...
((ht: bigleadsports/AP))
Haha! This is pretty funny video. The Phillie Phanatic, the mascot of the Philadelphia Phillies was at a minor league game in Allentown, PA last night and was doing what mascots do during games--working the crowd.
However, he was working the crowd during an at-bat and not necessarily paying attention, when a foul ball was hit his way. The mascot, and the guy in the costume, went down...and went down hard.
According to the Associated Press, the guy in the costume was sent to the hospital--we assume out of his costume--checked and released.

Weird Video: Norfolk manager holds up game looking for ball
((ht: hotclicks))
This is really strange. During Sunday's Norfolk Tides vs Durham Bulls minor league game in North Carolina, there was a disputed call after what looked like a home run. It was ruled a double after the umpires went out to the wall and determined the ball apparently hit the padding on the wall and got lodged there.
Well, Norfolk manager Gary Allenson didn't like the call. He came out, argued and was tossed. But that wasn't enough. He proceeded to march out to the outfield go through the gap in the wall, climb the wall and walk in the grass. And then marched back to the infield and continued the argument.
And...well, just watch the video...Courtesy: Durham Bulls TV

Bryce Harper blows kiss to pitcher
And the reason that is a big deal is that he's probably going to get drilled with a pitch in his next game.
The reason for this even being mentioned; Harper blew the kiss after he had just hit a home run for his Hagerstown minor league team. He hit it off Greensboro Grasshoppers' pitcher Zachary Neal.
And while hitting homeruns is good, running the bases and blowing a kiss to the pitcher after rounding 3rd, isn't looked upon very well. By the way, Bryce Harper is last years number 1 draft pick by the Washington Nationals and is tearing up the Class A South Atlantic League.
