JoJo Reyes gets off the schnide

So he tied a record instead of breaking it.

Toronto Blue Jays lefthand pitcher JoJo Reyes avoided making history Monday night by throwing a complete game win against the Cleveland Indians, Toronto won 11-1.

Reyes had lost his previous 28 Major League starts. All 28 of them. Which tied him with former Oakland pitcher Matt Keough who lost 28 straight in 1978-79 and Cliff Curtis who did the same thing in 1910-11.

Not only did Reyes get his first win, he threw a complete game. We might add, that in Reyes's previous start, he got a no-decision when the Toronto bullpen blew the 2-0 lead that he gave them.

Mr. Reyes. We congratulate you.

BREAKING: Verlander No-Hits Jays

The Detroit Tigers Justin Verlander went the full nine innings against Toronto- walking one and striking out four for the second no-no of his career...

A 9-0 win over the Blue Jays...

He was even asked a few years ago how to actually throw one of these no-hitters...

Verlander's only baserunner was with one out in the eighth inning when J.P. Arencibia walked on a full count- on Verlander's 12th pitch of the at-bat.

It was the fourth time the Blue Jays have been no-hit in the team's existence- the last was by the Texas Rangers' Nolan Ryan, on his 7th no-hitter May 1, 1991.

BREAKING: Brandon Morrow Loses No-Hitter, Finishes One-Hitter

After 8-and-two-thirds innings, the Tampa Bay Rays Evan Longoria poked a ball into shallow right field to break up the Toronto Blue Jays' Brandon Morrow's no-hitter

Carrying the no-hitter into the ninth, Morrow got Jason Bartlett to fly out to center to start the inning. Ben Zobrist drew a walk and Carl Crawford flew out to left field to set up Longoria.

Longoria sent a dribbler in between Aaron Hill and first base, but Hill couldn't get to the ball in time. It caromed off his glove and into right field.

Morrow had struck out 16 Rays to that point in the game.
Dan Johnson struck out swinging for the 17th strike out in a 137-pitch performance for Morrow, who improved to 9-6 on the year with the win.

The Jays won the game 1-nothing. Jeff Niemann was scheduled to start for the Rays, but was sent back to Tampa along with Wade Davis to have their throwing arms examined by team doctors. Andy Sonnenstine started in Niemann's place. Randy Choate, Dan Wheeler, and Lance Cormier mopped up in relief.

Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On...

The first was a 4.4 in the middle of the desert that no one really felt- unless, of course, you were in the desert...

Last night, during the Padres-Blue Jays game this happened... a 5.7 that many more people felt than the first one...

Jays Ricciardi Out, Does Everyone Hate Cito...???

In the "It's About Time" Department...
JP Ricciardi is out as the GM of the Toronto Blue Jays...

From the Jays their own selves...
"This was a tough decision and a difficult one for me personally as I have enjoyed J.P.'s friendship and his perspective on the game," said Paul Beeston, acting president, and CEO. "J.P. has put an incredible amount of effort into improving the team and he has brought along a number of great young players. However, I feel that it is time for a change and accordingly we have decided to move on."

Yeah, but fans thought he was mediocre at best and the handling of the Roy Halladay-Trade Deadline non-trade was the last they could collectively stand.

In other Jays stuff, the players really don't want Cito Gaston ((pictured, thanks CP)) back as manager.

Vernon Wells indicated he and ace Roy Halladay are at the forefront of a group of players that also includes second baseman Aaron Hill and catcher Rod Barajas which intends to raise the clubhouse issues in a meeting with Beeston, and perhaps Gaston in a team-wide chat, this weekend.

While they were all uncomfortable airing their dirty laundry in public -- Halladay offered nothing more than the terse "Any concerns I have will be expressed to the right people" -- they confirmed what multiple sources at all levels of the clubs, including two players, told The Canadian Press earlier about the "friction" between players and Gaston.

At issue are Gaston's "constant negativity," poor communication and old-school approach and the problems stretch back to last June when he replaced the fired John Gibbons. There are also complaints about Gaston's hands-off, in-game decision making -- a criticism that dates back to his first tenure as manager from 1989 to 1997.

One player also noted that Gaston once said "there aren't any good players in here."

Are You a Bum?

Poor Alex Rios. You start off by having a really bad day. You strike out 5 times in a game Thursday against the Angels of Anaheim. Then, to make matters worse, you essentially blow off a kid looking for an autograph after the game as you are heading towards your car. You get yelled at and heckled by fans who see this, they call you a "Bum" among other things. You get mad and yell back a few profanities all the while not realizing that someone had a video camera...and posted it to youtube.
