A judge says he will grant bail to disgraced former junior hockey coach Graham James, who is facing new sex charges.
Final conditions for his release won't be set until next week.
James is to remain in jail until then.
James faces nine charges stemming from alleged incidents between 1979 to 1994 involving three boys, including former NHL All-Star Theo Fleury.
James, who is 58, served more than a year in jail in the late 1990s for assaulting three young hockey players, including NHL player Sheldon Kennedy.
James was pardoned and moved to Mexico, setting off an entirely new firestorm about the pardoning laws in the country. Here's when CBC's Bob McKeown tracked him down south of the border...
((HT: CBC/Youtube))
James returned to Canada after Winnipeg police issued a warrant on the new charges back in October.
Here's Fleury discussing the new charges brought on James back when Fleury was promoting his book, "Playing With Fire," with CBC/QTV's Jian Ghomeshi...

Albert Hayneswoth suspended 4 games...Haynesworth says...uh uh...no you did unt...
Well, it was just a matter of time before the Albert Haynesworth versus Mike Shanahan battle came to a head. Today it was announced Fat Albert (our hero) will be sitting for the next 4 games, partially after saying on Monday "I ain't talking to him anymore".
The 'Skins for their part say that Haynesworth is being suspended for "Conduct Detrimental to the team". Though they didn't specify what that conduct was. Haynesworth was declared inactive for last weeks game, a humiliating 31-7 loss to the New York Giants. Reports about the reason he sat ranged from "Illness" to "Hangover" to "Being late".
More on the protest of the protest from the Washington Post RIGHT HERE
We think at this point the two sides just need to part ways. Haynesworth may go down as the biggest free agent flop in the history of free agency. Do we agree with the way that coach Mike Shanahan has handled all of this. Uh...no. He hasn't exactly been player friendly this year. Though it may very well be a process of weeding out old, overpaid veteran players who have their own agenda, not necessarily one that jibes with the team.
Though everyone involved denies it, expect Haynesworth to be cut loose after the season. We are pretty sure that someone will take a flyer on him, give him a chance to resurrect his career. He does have some talent and could be helpful to a team if he is interested or buys into the whole work 1st/team behavior that most teams expect. Whether that happens or not, remains to be seen.
Now....we have a chance to re-post Albert's theme song, one that until he proves otherwise, should stick:

BREAKING: Is The Wann - stache Going To Be Shaved At Pitt?--Update--Yes he is
[HT: Pittsburgh Post Gazette and KDKA Radio]University of Pittsburgh athletic director Steve Pederson will reportedly meet with head coach Dave Wannstedt about his future.
Rumors are beginning to fly that Wannstedt will be out when that meeting takes place with Pederson.
The Panthers did finish 7-5 and co-Big East Conference champions. Pitt will play Kentucky January 8th in Birmingham, Alabama in the BBVA Compass Bowl.
More when we know it.
We know it. As of 4:26pm, WPXI in Pittsburgh is reporting that he's gone. Fired. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting the same thing. No word yet as to who will coach the bowl game for the somewhat disappointing Panthers.

Tributes To Dandy Don
The term "one of a kind" certainly fits Don Meredith. Jeff and Hazel's baby boy as Meredith used to say was Texas to the core and lived life carefree.

Stolen, giant Lee Corso head recovered...World secure for another day...
If this wasn't kind of funny, we probably wouldn't have posted this. Apparently, over the weekend, while ESPN was doing their "College Gameday" show from Corvallis, Oregon before the Oregon-Oregon State game, someone walked off with a giant, mascot head of one of the co-hosts, Lee Corso.
The story from the Registerguard.com RIGHT HERE
Oregon State police say the "Giant" head was recovered after it was left near the home of an Oregon State Employee. Two dumb asses were arrested, 26-year old August Cuneo and 25-year old Alexander Westerberg. Police say they both were Oregon graduates, no word on if they were actually capable of finishing their degrees.
For those not aware of the joke. Here is the promo spot that kind of got things started. It's actually kind of funny in a dry-humor sense.

Jim Tracy collapses at Baseball Meetings...appears to be OK
![]() |
| Jim Tracy/Courtesy: Getty Images |
There is no indication of what caused Tracy to collapse, he's being tested at the hospital to try and find a cause. Thankfully, he was in the company of his coaches when he went down, they called for immediate help.
The winter meetings continue in Florida, there have been a few pieces of action, but the primary focus has been the chase for Cliff Lee. Nobody knows where or when he'll sign a long-term, gazillion dollar contract.
The biggest puzzler, the signing of Jayson Werth to a $120 something million dollar deal. Anyway you slice it, it's kept baseball on the radar, even with all the NFL stuff and Cam Newton stories. For that, we laugh.

Iowa flyover might have been a "Bit" too low....
((ht: kfor-tv))
It appears as though we have a bit of a flyover controversy brewing out in the Midwest. Apparently a pair of Vance Air Force base in Oklahoma were doing a flyover before the Ohio State/Iowa game last month.
They allegedly flew a bit too low. The flight deck was supposed to be 1000 feet, according to video they looked a little bit lower than that. The base is investigating.
This is not the 1st time something like this has happened. We reported in March about a flyover at the 2009 Georgia/Georgia Tech game. Here is the story.
In that incident, the two pilots, Navy pilots, were grounded and eventually reassigned. We don't know what will happen in the Iowa incident, but it is an interesting parallel.
Check out the TV Story/Video from WHO-TV in Des Moines and judge for yourself.

Hoosier Coach? How About Kevin Wilson
[HT: Bloomington Herald Times]Indiana is set to introduce Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson as the new head coach of the Hoosiers. http://www.heraldtimesonline.com/stories/2010/12/07/iusports.730816.sto
Wilson has been on the OU staff since 2002 and the O.C. 2006. In 2008 Wilson won the Frank Broyles Award as the assistant coach of the year.
Those of us at the OSG HQ wish Wilson all the luck in the world in turning a perennial Big 10 doormat into a winning program, or at least bowl eligibility.

The Search Continues In Miami.
Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt is in New York City attending the National Football Foundation award ceremony, the College Football Hall of Fame inductions and find a new head coach for the Miami Hurricanes.http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/um-hurricanes/fl-miami-hurricanes-football-coach-up20101206,0,7081130.story
Jon Gruden has said no. It appears Dan Mullen can't be pried away from Starkville, MS and parlayed his status as a hot coaching commodity into a lucrative contract from Mississippi State.
It seems Stanford is renewing their commitment to Jim Harbaugh and all he has to do is put pen to paper to a new contract with the Cardinal. A couple of things about Harbaugh though, Michigan wants to reevaluate Rich Rodiriquez after their Gator Bowl game with Mississippi State. It's the ultimate "must-win" situation for Rich Rod. The Michigan job might open up and the deep pocketed Wolverine supporters might want Harbaugh back in Ann Arbor. Second is Stanford is playing in the Orange Bowl in Miami. Convenient for Hocutt to perhaps have a discussion about living full time in South Florida.
The odds of Miami hiring Harbaugh as the next Hurricane head coach are slim.
With Dan Mullen and Jim Harbaugh reportedly receiving new deals from the current employer who do the Hurricanes turn to now?
Connecticut head coach Randy Edsell might to be in Miami's cross hairs but according to a Connecticut spokesman won't be in the Big Apple but out of town recruiting.
Tommy Tuberville has said he hasn't been contacted by Miami. Tuberville told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal on Friday night,“I’m happy to be here. We just got this thing started. We want to keep it going. All the coaches like it here. I want to be here. So there’s no other thing to say.
“You can always say, ‘I’m not going’ or ‘I am going’ or ‘I’ll listen to them.’ There’s been no contact and that job’s been open, what, a week or so."
http://www.redraiders.com/2010/12/03/tuberville-addresses-miami-speculation/
Another name that has been mentioned is Marc Trestman who is the head coach of the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. Under Trestman's watch the Alouettes have won back to back Grey Cups (For you with little CFL knowledge that Canada's Super Bowl). Before you laugh off Trestman keep in mind Trestman has recent college football experience and coached in the ACC. Trestman was offensive coordinator for NC State before heading north of the border.
For Kirby Hocutt, the search continues.

BREAKING: No Joshing...Josh McDaniels...You're FIRED!
![]() |
| Josh McDaniles/Courtesy: Denver Post |
The Denver Broncos have asked now former head coach Josh McDaniels to "Leave the Building". The Broncos are 3-9 on the season and seemingly have gotten worse as the season has progressed.
Another factor was in play. Broncos owner Pat Bowlen was said to be livid after it was discovered that McDaniels friend and now former Video Coordinator Steve Sarnacchia was busted for taping the 49ers pre-game walk through before playing the Broncos in London, back in October. Sarnacchia was fired, McDaniels fined after the story leaked out a couple of weeks ago.
Read more about what happened from the Denver Post RIGHT HERE
McDaniels, it was generally acknowledged to be in over his head. The once proud Broncos franchise has been in free fall, even before they fired former coach Mike Shanahan. They are now light years away from being competitive.
Personnel decisions like trading Peyton Hillis for #3 quarterback Brady Quinn and drafting Tim Tebow in the 1st round, got some peoples attention. The team itself, never put anything together. For his part, McDaniels is only in his early 30's and can still build credibility as a coordinator, his offense worked on occasion in Denver. We'll see if that plays out to be true or that and the video issue will haunt him forever.
McDaniels issued the following statement:
"I am very grateful to Pat Bowlen and the Broncos' organization for giving me the opportunity to be the Head Coach of such a proud franchise. I would like to thank all of the people who helped us over the last two years. I am especially appreciative of the efforts of every player, coach and member of the personnel department who worked so hard every day. I wish Pat Bowlen and the Broncos' organization nothing but the best in the future."
Broncos RB coach Eric Studesville is your interim...
We congratulate those of you who had Eric in your pools...
Enjoy the peak of his outburstedness...

1st Person: Saints vs. Bengals...Saints win 34-30
![]() |
| Saints-Bengals game/Courtesy: Me |
It's funny, after living in Cincinnati for over a year, we don't know exactly why...or how the local populace is attached to their team. Sure, the NFL is much bigger in Ohio and most parts Northeast/Midwest, but most--well some of those cities have team that have been successful. The Bengals. Not so much.
We went to the game mostly to see the Saints. TLB is from Louisiana and grew up a huge fan. But then again most Louisiana folk are hardcore football fans, be it the Saints or LSU. If you don't believe me, try going down there during football season.
The Bengals on the other hand, for the most part have been pretty bad. Pretty bad for a long, long time. Sure, they played in the Super Bowl twice in the '80's, but they haven't sniffed it since. They had a pretty good 2009 season, but nobody knew how or why. This year...has been back to reality. They came into the game 2-9 and fading...fast.
![]() |
| TLB was cold but enjoyed the game/Courtesy: Me |
Probably because of the weather, the game started slow. The Saints moved it right down the field the 1st time they got it, stalled and kicked a field goal. The Bengals didn't do much better. Halftime, it was 13-6 and nobody really seemed to be in control.
It picked up a bit in the 3rd. Chris Ivory, a free agent running back for the Saints, well, the Bengals couldn't stop him. 2 Rushing TD's, 117 yards on only 15 carries. He scored and then the guy allegedly brought in to put the Bengals over the top, Terrell Owens caught at TD pass. A missed extra point and we are looking at a 20-12 game after 3.
The final quarter got a little busier. Cedric Benson ran in two 2 TD's for the Bengals as they suddenly started to use the guys they had on offense the right way. It would be the only time all day they did that. They threw short and some longer, timing passes mixed in with Benson running. They moved it pretty well. Inexplicably, that wouldn't continue.
The Saints hung tough, but a 47-yard field goal by Clint Stinser, who missed an extra point earlier, suddenly put the Bengals in the lead. That wouldn't last long.
Drew Brees had 4:20 to move the Saints in for the game winner. And as usual, he delivered, though not without some help.
![]() |
| Yeah, I wear sunglasses for everything/Courtesy: TLB |
Nose Tackle Pat Sims jumps offside. Saints ball on the 3. The next play, Brees hits Marques Colston in front of his guy in the end zone. Game over. Or was it?
For some reason, the Saints kicked the ball to Bernard Scott who returned the ball to midfield. A 14-yard completion got the Bengals inside the 40. Rather than use their timeout, since they needed a touchdown and the play was stopped with 14-seconds to go, the Bengals frantically tried to run up and spike the ball before finally calling the timeout with 8-seconds left.
The last second throw to the end zone. It never happened. Carson Palmer was sacked. Game over Saints win 34-30.
It's hard to describe the looks on the Bengals fans faces at the end of the game. They just kind of quietly shook their heads and walked out of the stadium.
It will be very interesting to see what happens with this team after the season. There is some talent on the roster, but it hasn't been used very well. The coach, Marvin Lewis, his contract runs out after the season. There are tons of rumors he's done and they probably are true. The Bengals are one of the last teams run by a family and they aren't run well. They don't have the scouting resources or GM that other teams have. They do have a fanbase. One that would respond if prompted, but it doesn't look good. With the economic struggles in the area, an over-priced NFL ticket isn't that important to most. They put maybe 50,000 in Paul Brown Stadium Sunday (announced 59,000) and a lot of them left after half time. The team has some serious issues they need to address and if the league has a lockout, they may be one of the teams hurt the most.
Check out this interesting retrospective done by meaningfulcollateral.com. Interesting and they only go back to the 1990's.

Longhorns Staff Shakeup Continues
Texas offensive coordinator Greg Davis has resigned and two other assistant coaches are leaving after the Longhorns' first losing season since 1997.
Davis, who has been with head coach Mack Brown for 13 seasons at Texas, had been under fire all season as Texas finished 5-7 and didn't qualify for a bowl. It was Brown's first losing season since 1989.
Offensive line coach Mac McWhorter and defensive line coach Mike Tolleson also are leaving Austin.
Texas spokesman John Bianco is saying that Brown was not likely to announce replacements until after the bowl season.

Will the NBA buy the New Orleans Hornets? UPDATE--Answer is yes!
![]() |
| Hornets Logo/Courtesy: sportige.com |
Minority owner Gary Chouse (he owns 35 percent of the team) wants to buy them....but. Though there was an agreement in place for that to happen back in May, it still hasn't happened. Chouset, hasn't spoken to anyone, much less the media, so we don't know why.
Read a pretty good summary from NOLA.com RIGHT HERE
The team, can opt of their lease if attendance doesn't average 14,735 fans per game by the end of January. They aren't on pace for that.
For their part. The NBA hasn't commented publicly as to what they intend to do, but the belief by most is they'll step in because they desperately want the team to stay in New Orleans. Remember, this is the team that started their lives in Charlotte, but moved when Shinn didn't want to stay there after having some "issues".
It sure sounds like the league will have to take over. The question is..."Will they have anymore luck finding a buyer?". Maybe. Nobody knows. This hasn't happened before.
**UPDATE MONDAY AFTERNOON**--The NBA announced today that they are going to buy the team for somewhere around $300 million. We assume they will try and flip it to another owner since Chouse has indicated he won't be buying the team.
Here are the Hornets, knocking off the team we all love to hate, the Miami Heat. Thanks YouTube:

BREAKING: "Dandy" Don Meredith passes away

| The Monday Night Football team (Meredith in the middle)-Courtesy: volnation.com |
Meredith, who was 72, was a fixture in the early Monday night games, teaming with Frank Gifford and Howard Cosell, passed away at a Santa Fe, New Mexico hospital, late last night.
More from the Dallas Morning News RIGHT HERE
Meredith was one of the "Original" Dallas Cowboys, their first quarterback. He played in the NFL for 8 years before he retired.
It didn't take long for Meredith, known for being a Cowboy off the field, found his way to the Monday Night Football booth. He was part of the original broadcast in 1970. He had a great sense of humor and didn't have that "Filter" to keep him from saying whatever was on his mind.
He'll be missed, but he won't be forgotten. Dandy Don, rest in peace, we here at OSG Sports tip our hats and salute you sir.

Minnesota doesn't "Kill" with the hiring of Jerry Kill
![]() |
| Jerry Kill/Courtesy: star-tribune.com |
More from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune RIGHT HERE
Kill, for his part has never had a losing season as a head coach. This years Northern Illinois squad, they are heading to Boise in a couple weeks, they are playing in the Humanitarian Bowl.
Strangely, the folks in Minneapolis think they could have done better. We laugh at that thought. Do they really believe that they are worthy of a "Top-Flight", major conference coach? Bwahahahaha!
Read this column by the Star-Tribune's Patrick Reusse RIGHT HERE
Come on guys, you're lucky to get a coach like Kill. You had no chance at Chris Peterson, Randy Edsall, Brady Hoke or any other "Big Name" coach out there. You are a bottom level Big 10/12 team. Moving from another "BCS" level school to Minnesota is a step down. Really. A big step down.
Enjoy your new coach. Hope that he "Kills" and gets you closer to respectability. Hope that if he does that and you finally get tired of him that maybe the next time...a "Big Name" coach will be interested in your job.
Kill gets to meet his adoring new fanbase today at 2pm.

Meadowlark Lemon is still at it....
![]() |
| Meadowlark in his heyday/Courtesy: Salem-news.com |
And we're doing a story on it because he was a favorite when we were kids. Meadowlark Lemon, former Harlem Globetrotter, ordained minister and funny guy, is now 80 years old.
Would you believe that he's still playing basketball? He is. He's got his own team, "Meadowlark Lemon's Harlem All-Stars" and he plays. Most games, most nights. He's there, on the floor doing what he's done since 1955.
More from an excellent article by the LA Times RIGHT HERE
Lemon, perennially paired with Curly Neal were the two most memorable parts of the 'Trotters. A somewhat all-star team of guys who played basketball...played it for fun. They were huge in the '70's and '80's, often playing before packed houses. They were frequently featured on ABC's Wide World of Sports and they even had their own Saturday morning cartoon. Really...does it get much better than that.
Really, this is kind of a good excuse to post the opening to the Globetrotters cartoon, which you've got to admit is pretty catchy, isn't it?

Amon Carter Implosion Successful
((HT: MyFoxDFW))
So, that's why the Texas Bowl is being played at the SMU campus this year...
A portion of TCU's Amon Carter Stadium was imploded to make way for a massive renovation project. It took just seconds-worth of a few boom-booms for the west grandstand to fall.
The demolition is part of a $105 million renovation project that will create three-tiered seating, two-dozen suites, a 20,000 square-foot club level, and a new press box. The north end zone and stadium exterior will also undergo renovations.
Most of the construction is expected to be completed by the start of next football season.
