BRREAKING NEWS: Happy Thanksgiving Brad Childress...you're fired!

We'll, I guess the story we wrote a couple of hours ago is kinda pointless now, isn't it? To the surprise of few, the Minnesota Vikings announced this afternoon that they've fired head coach Brad Childress.

Childress's replacement, defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, a man who should've been a head coach long before today.

Childress's departure comes on the heels of a humiliating 31-3 loss to Green Bay, one of many humiliations the Vikings have suffered this season. That dropped them to 3-7 and likely out of playoff contention. Something that surprised many pundits who assumed they were one game away from the Super Bowl last year and have Brett Favre, so they must be a Super Bowl team. Wrong again!

Oh and did we mention that he's fought most of season with Favre, through mostly the press and his players openly talked of how he's lost the locker room. And then there was the Randy Moss incident, one in which honestly, he probably made the right move for his team, but was blasted because of the way he did it. No, PR was not his best suit.

Vikings owner Zygi Wilf and Leslie Frazier will meet with the assembled media at 4pm eastern today. We'll try and update this story with video from that, later this afternoon.

I have a great respect for the players and coaches who I have worked with and for their dedication to each other and to the organization. I am proud of our accomplishments and believe the foundation of this football team is stronger today than when I became Head Coach in 2006. I appreciate the opportunity that Zygi, Mark, and the whole Wilf family afforded me and wish them success as they move forward."

Stage set for implosion with Vikings

We can't say we are shocked, because we aren't. What is happening here verifies are assertion that money doesn't always buy happiness or success in Sports.

The Minnesota Vikings are about to self-destruct. Viking fans might argue they already have. They are dealing with a coach than seems to be trying to get fired and a high-priced, diva-licious, should've retired last year quarterback.

WTMJ-TV says it's time for the Favre to walk away RIGHT HERE

There is already discussion about the future of coach Brad Childress and some speculation that he'll be asked to leave today. That is possible and we'll keep an eye out in case that happens.

It also may have...no hopefully was Brett Favre's last game. There will be sentiment, mostly from ESPN, that the Vikings should let Favre continue to play to keep his consecutive game streak alive.

No, they shouldn't. This season is over and Favre is not the team's future. Much like the Packers when they asked Favre to leave, they have to figure out who their guy for the future will be...Tavaris Jackson or maybe Joe Webb.

Either way, the amount of money that owner Zigi Wilf spent on this team is just plain goofy. They caught lightning in a bottle last year and that was great for them. This year, reality set in and proved...they aren't very good.

Brad Childress Recruiting In Hattiesburg

Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress is in Hattiesburg trying to figure out if the guy who Qb'ed last year is coming back this year...

Childress and Brett Favre were at The University of Southern Mississippi's 7-on-7 passing camp for area high school athletes. Childress wouldn't comment on camera about his visit but said, "You can fill in the blanks."

Childress said he did not know how long he would stay in town...

Favre has been seen practicing with the Oak Grove High School football team testing the rehabbed, operated-on ankle. He has told everyone willing to reprint his every word that he still hasn't made up his mind whether he's coming back for the 2010 season.

Is Brett Favre Losing It Again?

Remember last year when Brett Favre lost it toward the end of the season with the New York Jets? It appears to be happening again this time Favre can't blame a bad arm.

Sunday night Favre's Minnesota Vikings got shelled by a not very good but getting better Carolina Panther team 26-7.

Before the Panthers ran off 20 straight points on the Viks, Minnesota head coach Brad Childress wanted to bench Favre. Well that didn't make Favre very happy and a heated discussion ensued.

This is what Vikings head coach Brad Childress was quoted by the Associated Press:

“We were just having a good conversation about the game was heading at that point and time,” Childress said. “And what we needed to do to head the other way.”

If we watched the game I don't think I've ever seen a good conversation as heated.

On one hand Childress had to know that Minnesota's offensive line was getting whooped by Carolina's pass rush and Favre can't avoid the rush like he used to, so why not bring in Tarvaris Jackson who is more mobile.

This is what's bugging us in the OSG HQ. Why make the move when you are up 7-6? If it's between Favre and Jackson I'm sticking with Favre. He may be 40 but Favre isn't doing the dumb things he did with the Packers. He's much more conservative.

Then again, Favre looks like he's beginning to wear down. Favre can't avoid the rush and his decision making is being effected. Perhaps Chilly is seeing that and wanted to save the wear and tear for the playoffs.

Favre To Meet With Childress

Brett Favre's storied career might not be over yet.

ESPN is reporting the 39-year-old quarterback will meet with Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress later this week. Bus Cook, Favre's agent, and Vikings team spokesman Bob Hagan did not immediately return calls made by the Associated Press.

The Favre saga has taken many turns over the last two seasons. After leading the Green Bay Packers to the NFC Championship game, and losing to the eventual Super Bowl Champion New York Giants, Favre retired from football in March, 2008. He later expressed a desire to return only to find the Packers unwilling to make him their starting QB.

After months of rumour and speculation, Favre was traded to the New York Jets.

Last season Favre showed flashes of his brilliance, but the Jets ended up with a 9-7 record and missed the playoffs.

He asked for and was given his release by the Jets last week.

This really should come as no surprise to anyone to follows life inside "The Shield" or the Brett Favre saga over the last few days. But it seems that the Green Bay Packers are mad as hell and they're not going to take it anymore...

Our friends at foxsports.com report that the Packers are bent at the Minnesota Vikings ((big shock there)) because of conversations Favre has had with Vikes Offensive Coordinator Darrell Bevell. Apparently, Favre and Bevell talked to one another in the off-season.

The hook- Bevell was Favre's QB Coach from 2003-2005, and the offense currently run in Minnesota is the closest thing to the "West Coast" Offense that Brett is comfortable running from behind center.

Hmmmmm....

If it's proven that conversations took place, the Vikes could lose a draft pick or draft picks-plural... and, maybe, some caish for good measure...

And, apparently, "Bus" Cook, Favre's agent is telling folks that Brett is laying low on the whole idea of filing for reinstatement.

According to Mike Florio at Profootballtalk.com, the Packers may have this whole phone conversation-thing traced to one place.

Ahem... quote

"...it has been reported that the Packers believe that phone records will reveal that Favre has had multiple conversations with Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell. But we’re hearing that the Packers might already have the phone records. Since the Packers wouldn’t have had access to the phone records of Bevell or any other Vikings employee, the logical conclusion is that Favre was using a cell phone that has been bought and paid for by the Packers — and that the Packers have full access to the documents reflecting all calls made and received."

Another name on the phone records, according to PFT, could be that of a phone allegedly linked to Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress.

If that's the case... well, then... um... Oops!
