Is he back?: Favre's return rumored in Philly

Really. Surely this can't be serious. And no I'm not calling you or Brett Favre "Shirley" either. Considering the source we'd ordinarily just write this off as Howard Eskin rambling on about nothing in particular.

But.

It's Favre. Yes, Eskin went on WCAU-TV Saturday night and threw out the rumor that the Philadelphia Eagles would consider bringing in Brett Favre to be their backup Quarterback. And yeah, we laughed when we heard it.

We don't take it too seriously because it would mean the "High-and-Mighty" Favre would have to be Michael Vick's backup, something most of us are sure he'd never do. And yes, we know he "Swore" he was done. But he did that multiple times.

What interested us more was a tweet from Vick Sunday morning. "I would be honored to have Brett Favre as a backup. That will be amazing, learning how to toy with defenses the way he did his whole career."

Either way, it ain't happening. It just made us laugh seeing this. We are pretty sure Mr. Eskin was just looking for some attention, since he attributed it to "A" source who qualified it by saying "He didn't know if Favre would even be interested in playing anymore."

Before you say it. Yes, if we are saying it isn't credible, then why are we reporting it?. We're reporting it because of who it is and as crazy and ludicrous as this sounds, anything regarding the person involved unfortunately is worth a mention.

Doing the morning search today, we came across this video. This video is absolutely one of the funniest things we've seen in a long time.

To summarize, someone put together a Brett Favre version of the  LeBron James Nike commercial. And it's really good.

The two guys who did it, Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault. Guys, we say "Bravo"!

As much as we've pretty much lost all of our respect for the guy, we do believe that he's done. There's no way to rebuild his legacy at this point. Seeing what we saw this season was just flat out an embarassment.

Yes, we know, for the umpteenth time, Brett Favre is retiring. This time though, it may be serious. Alex Marvez of Fox Sports says that he's actually submitted the official retirement papers needed with the NFL.

You can't see this, but I'm laughing right now as I write this, because ESPN just broke into the morning SportsCenter to report this same story. And it was read a bit incredulously by anchor Josh Elliot.

Anyway. Favre, who finished 2010 injured and fined by the NFL for not helping them in an alleged sexual harassment complaint against him from when he tried playing with the Jets, managed to put a final coat of tarnish on what would have been a great career.

From the legendary runs while in Green Bay to re-writing a ton of league records, Favre seemingly had his history cemented as an NFL legend. For his sake, he better hope that times heals all wounds, because he opened up quite a few, the past 4 years.

From his public squabble with the Packers, who just wanted to know if he was done...or not, to the injury plagued season with the Jets that led to the firing of Eric Mangini and the dreaded Sterger incident to finally the drama plagued two seasons with the Vikings, it became all about Brett.

Yeah, he'll get his hall of fame invite in 5-years and probably should. But it won't be fun to watch. We just hope that the time away will let people forget what the guy became and try and remember what he was in his glory days.

But we could just be dreaming too.....

The league produced a statement saying the following:

Commissioner Goodell could not conclude that Favre violated league policies relating to workplace conduct. The forensic analysis could not establish that Favre sent the objectionable photographs to Sterger. The review found no evidence to contradict the statements of both Favre and Sterger that they never met in person, nor was there anything to suggest that Sterger engaged in any inappropriate conduct.

Had the league found anything, Favre would have faced stiffer discipline from the league. The league was also not happy over Favre's lack of candor in the matter.

Brett Favre is inactive for the Minnesota Vikings' game with the New York Giants, ending his record consecutive starts streak at 297, dating back to 1992.

Vikings spokesman Jeff Anderson said Favre is not suited up for the game.
He has an injured right shoulder. Conventional wisdom maintains that the seriousness of his injury is a three week recovery, this being week one...

The Minnesota Vikings are about to self-destruct. Viking fans might argue they already have. They are dealing with a coach than seems to be trying to get fired and a high-priced, diva-licious, should've retired last year quarterback.

WTMJ-TV says it's time for the Favre to walk away RIGHT HERE

There is already discussion about the future of coach Brad Childress and some speculation that he'll be asked to leave today. That is possible and we'll keep an eye out in case that happens.

It also may have...no hopefully was Brett Favre's last game. There will be sentiment, mostly from ESPN, that the Vikings should let Favre continue to play to keep his consecutive game streak alive.

No, they shouldn't. This season is over and Favre is not the team's future. Much like the Packers when they asked Favre to leave, they have to figure out who their guy for the future will be...Tavaris Jackson or maybe Joe Webb.

Either way, the amount of money that owner Zigi Wilf spent on this team is just plain goofy. They caught lightning in a bottle last year and that was great for them. This year, reality set in and proved...they aren't very good.

In an interview set to air in its entirety Sunday on the NFL Network, Brett Favre sayeth quote when asked if he's coming back in 2011:

"No..."

But he wants to get the Vikes to the playoffs first...

"That's my goal," said Favre, when asked by the NFL Network if the postseason was a possibility. "But I am thinking we have to win this game and that gives us hope for the next one.

We could hardly contain the laughter. No, we don't wish injury on anyone. But it was hard not to find humor in our least favorite quarterback getting his jaw jacked Sunday versus the Patriots.

In fact, we are betting the only upset people about this are the folks that produce SportsCenter and several writers and other assorted media types who worship the ground that the "Great Egotist" occupies.

Not much, mind you, but we'll now go into the whole athlete-cell donging escapade that Brett Favre has admitted to Sunday afternoon...

According to Fox Sports, Favre told league investigators that he left phone messages for Jenn Sterger, who worked for the Jets in 2008 when Favre was their quarterback. However, Favre denied sending inappropriate photos.

We anticipate the rest coming down the line very soon...

The HQ knows that, while cell donging can be traced to certain cell phones, it would be difficult to prove in any kind of court of law- unless someone undresses in open court... there is a certain amount of plausible deniability there...

Brett Favre will address the media from the Winter Park field house in Eden Prairie after the Minnesota Vikings’ 12:40 EST practice Wednesday. Head coach Brad Childress will be available immediately following. The practice is expected to last about two hours.

Shortly after 11:30 local time this morning, Favre stepped onto the practice field in Eden Prairie. Wearing his red No. 4 jersey, Favre stretched with fellow quarterbacks Tarvaris Jackson, Sage Rosenfels and Joe Webb.

The other three didn't seem to care much that 4 was there...

When Minnesota Vikings players Jared Allen, Ryan Longwell, and Steve Hutchinson missed practice today in Eden Prairie to fly down to New Orleans, it seems they were the escort for Brett Favre to make their way back to training camp.

Favre's website posted a message earlier saying "stay tuned for breaking news from the Minnesota Vikings today on Brett Favre's possible return."

Early Wednesday morning, Judd Zulgad from the Star-Tribune reports that his NFL sources are saying the Vikings' idea to bring back Favre (if he is thinking of retiring) now includes an offer that could pay him $20 million -- $16 million guaranteed, plus incentives potentially worth another $4 million.

Favre was scheduled to make $13 million already in 2010...

But a lot of his teammates, close friend Ryan Longwell included, aren't sold on the idea of 4 leaving just yet...

We do know that the Waffle King had surgery this summer on his ankle and he's worried that it still isn't right. We do know that the Vikings opened camp...just like the rest of the NFL...last week.

And we know that if he really does go through with it, they are kinda screwed now. However, he has cried wolf so many times about retiring that we are to say the least, skeptical.

Yes, believe it or not, Brett Favre has said he was retiring before.
Last year, he said it and then finally showed up at the Vikings training camp on August 18th. With that date in mind, obviously, there is time for Brett to do what he does best, which is change his mind. If he did follow through with this, it would leave the Vikes with Tavaris Jackson, rookie Joe Webb, and Sage Rosenfels to run the show, something the Vikings were obviously not comfortable with last season when they brought the Waffle King in.

It may be too late to find someone else.

Brad Childress Recruiting In Hattiesburg

Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress is in Hattiesburg trying to figure out if the guy who Qb'ed last year is coming back this year...

Childress and Brett Favre were at The University of Southern Mississippi's 7-on-7 passing camp for area high school athletes. Childress wouldn't comment on camera about his visit but said, "You can fill in the blanks."

Childress said he did not know how long he would stay in town...

Favre has been seen practicing with the Oak Grove High School football team testing the rehabbed, operated-on ankle. He has told everyone willing to reprint his every word that he still hasn't made up his mind whether he's coming back for the 2010 season.
