The wife of former Minnesota Viking, and current Vikes broadcaster, Joe Senser was formally charged on "criminal vehicular homicide or operation – driver who causes accident leaves scene" – a felony count – by the Hennepin County ((MN)) attorney's office.
Amy Margaret Senser’s bail was set at $150,000. If she's convicted, there's a maximum penalty of ten years incarceration and a $20,000 fine.
The medical examiner's report was released in the death of local chef Anousone Phanthavong. Phanthavong's family is suing in a wrongful death proceeding and is asking for several questions to be answered during the discovery phase including if anyone else was in the car with Amy Senser.

New Vikings stadium plan looking shaky

Whither the Vikings and their plans for a new football stadium in Minnesota.
According to a report today in the St.Paul Pioneer press, the funding for the Vikings new digs in Ramsey County, Minnesota is getting a bit on the shaky side.
The report says the St. Paul City Council (part of Ramsey County) will publicly oppose the 1/2% sales tax the county is proposing to help fund the stadium which would be located in the suburb of Arden Hills.

Whether the vote to oppose the tax will derail the issue remains to be seen, but it is an indication of eroding support for the funding of the proposed $1.1 billion project which would be built on the old Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant.
The state isn't particularly enamored with the details either in part because they already have some serious budget issues to deal with. There are a lot of concerns the costs will amount to more than what's been estimated and with the state's budget standoff getting to the point where they've been shutdown since Friday, it may be hard to get the issue through.
There are options for the team and stadium folks, it's just a matter of how creative they want to get. St. Paul's mayor suggested the funding come from a 2 cent per drink "booze" tax. Not a bad idea, we'll see if it gains traction.
In the meantime, if and when the Vikings play again, they won't play in a new place. When the Metrodome roof is deemed totally safe, they'll be right back where they started.
And don't think the folks from AEG in Los Angeles aren't paying attention to this either.

Vikes New Stadium Will Be Retractable

Ramsey County ((MN)) announced a partnership with the Minnesota Vikings for a new stadium in the town of Arden Hills.
The agreement calls for an $884 million stadium and an additional $173 million for on-site infrastructure, parking and environmental costs, bringing the total project costs to US$1.057 billion.
The Vikings will commit $407 million to the project - 44 percent of the stadium costs and 39 percent of the overall costs. The state of Minnesota would commit $300 million. The county's $350 million share would be financed with a half-cent sales tax increase.
Plans call for a retractable-roof, multi-purpose stadium, with seating for 65,000. According to a county press release, seating could be expanded to 72,000 for other events, such as a Super Bowl.
The site would also have an estimated 21,000 parking spaces.

A New Roof Needed At Metrodome, New Video Released Compared to "Blair Witch Project"

Not that this is a real surprise or anything, but the Metrodome Stadium Authority folks are saying the roof needs to be replaced at the HHH Metrodome.
The cost of a roof replacement will be between $15 and $20 million dollars -- but it won’t be taxpayer money, Mondale said. The Metrodome has paid its insurance, and Mondale expects the insurer to cover the full cost.
The Authority admits that 60-percent of the roof's panels need replacing- thus the idea of starting the whole thing over...

Everson Griffen goes to jail, "Don't tase me bro!"

We should, I guess, explain. According to reports in a couple of newspapers. Mr. Griffen was apparently first arrested Saturday night in Hollywoood for being drunk. Monday's incident involved attacking a police officer and being tased.

The former USC Grad and 2010 3rd round draft pick for the Vikings may have some explaining to do. The Vikings, for their part, have said they want to investigate what's going on.
This is not a good start to the offseason for, well, either party. The Vikings are coming off a disastrous 2010 season where everything that could go wrong, did. As for young Mr. Griffen, you don't want to be the 1st guy in the offseason arrest derby, especially if are not someone your team is counting on to be a major contributor. Good luck to you sir in your future endeavors.

Metrodome Repairs Could Take Til August
The new head of the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission, Ted Mondale, said that replacing the roof of the Metrodome would likely take the next five to six months to complete.
Vikings VP Lester Bagley said the team wouldn't talk about next season until the team has a better idea about the progress of the repairs. He said the team and the NFL have hired their own engineer to help with the process.
The Vikings could be back at TCF Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota if repairs aren't done by the beginning of the season...

Tuesday Carousel: McDaniels To St. Louis, Samurai Mike TO Vikes
The St. Louis Rams hired Josh McDaniels as their new offensive coordinator.
The team announced the hire on its Twitter feed- OneRamsWay. McDaniels replaces Pat Shurmur who was hired as the new Cleveland Browns head coach.
Coach Steve Spagnuolo called McDaniels one of the top offensive minds in the NFL.
The HQ wonders if we'll get any of this...???
Because, after all, he's trying to win...

Zygi Wilf Wants 2011 Vikings Outside...?

Sources tell Mortemer Spice that the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission is kicking the tires on the idea of playing the 2011 season outdoors at TCF Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota.
The decision should come in late January or early February. Vikings owner Zygi Wilf will make a decision consulting with the league office on whether to play the 2011 season at the Metrodome or TCF Bank Stadium.
The Monday night game was the Vikings' first outdoor home game since moving into the Metrodome for the 1982 season.

Part of the reason may have been the fact that the city has already declared a Snow Emergency for Sunday afternoon. Or at least we think that's what it is.
We've been in Philly when it snowed nearly a foot in about 4-hours so it can...and does come down fast. And the city has more than enough experience cleaning Lincoln Financial Field in a hurry. However, the football fans we are pretty sure would still be there...except for the fact that the Snow Emergency essentially discourages them from driving.
Oh well. The game will now be played Tuesday night at 8pm and it will still be on NBC for those keeping track of such things.

It's going to be a Snowy Night in Minnesota

We all know about how cold it's been in a good chunk of the Midwest, South and Northeast this month and we've all seen the pictures of the Minneapolis Metrodome.
Also, we know the Bears and Vikings are playing tonight (Monday) on the University of Minnesota's field. A field that up until a couple days ago was completely snow covered and frozen. Well, it's now defrosted and at least for the time being, sans snow.
Brother Jon reported Sunday about Vikings punter Chris Kluwe tweeting that the field appeared "Unplayable". However, he's a punter, he doesn't "Really" play on it.
Now comes word that along with the cold, you should expect snow Monday night. In fact, up to 8-inches of snow is expected, with a half-inch per hour coming down during the game. Hehehehe....

We think the whining player part of this story is hilarious. We would ask if any of them realize that the Vikings played outdoors for a long, long time, but we suspect they've been told that this week.
Really, the bigger story, is going to be how people sitting in chairs trying to watch will deal with it. At least the players will be moving and have heaters. Yeah, the field is going to be hard. No argument there, but it is part of it. You've got pads guys, deal with it.

DEVELOPING: Vikes Punter Says TCF is "Unplayable"

Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe is sending a shot across the NFL's bow for scheduling the Monday night game with the Chicago Bears outdoors at a facility that, apparently once and for all, was nowhere near ready in the first place...
Via Kluwe's Twitter account... some samples:
"Serious time - All respect to the people that cleared the field and got it ready, you did an amazing job. That being said, it's unplayable. The field is as hard as concrete an hour and a half after they took the tarp off, and anyone that hits their head is getting a concussion. I find it interesting that the NFL can claim an emphasis on player safety, and then tell us the field is fine. It's beyond hypocritical. I can only hope, however unlikely, that no one gets catastrophically injured at the trainwreck that's about to take place tomorrow night."

Tickets For Vikes-Bears General Admission

The HQ hopes this doesn't end up like The Who concert in Cincinnati...
All ticket holders who use their Vikings-Bears game tickets will have seating by general admission in the upper and lower levels.
This is a first-come, first-served event.
Yikes...
Having a valid ticket does not guarantee admittance into TCF Bank Stadium. If you're turned away ((meaning one of the 15,000 that could show but won't be able to show)), only the original ticket account owners will receive a full refund.
The Vikings and the University of Minnesota have agreed no alcoholic beverages will be served at this game.
Double yikes...
No outside food or beverages will be allowed into the stadium.
"This is a difficult situation with no easy solution, so we greatly appreciate our fans' patience in this process," said Steve LaCroix, Vikings Vice President of Sales and Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer, in a news release. "We are making every effort to accommodate as many Vikings fans as possible and play a home game here in Minnesota. We're excited about celebrating the 50th season with a return to outdoor football."

This just smells bad all over... just how bad remains to be seen...

Where Will The Bears - Vikings Play? Atlanta Possible
The folks at the University of Minnesota are working around the clock to get TCF Bank Stadium cleared of snow and ice so the Minnesota Vikings can actually play a home game in Minneapolis Monday night since the Metrodome is still damaged."I would say there will be a game here Monday night," Scott Ellison, the Gophers' associate athletic director, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Lets just say its an uphill battle. More snow is in the forecast. The water pipes at TCF Bank Stadium have been shut off since November when the Gophers ended their football season.
The field is frozen and removing the ice might damage the FieldTurf surface.
Now comes word that the Chicago Bears may protest playing the game outdoors at TCF Bank Stadium.

Bears safety Chris Harris tweeted, "Players have concerns of traction n the impact of falling on surface that could be as hard as asphalt. What if ur head hits it."
The NFL has not officially said where the game will be played. A domed stadium is likely but Vikings don't want to move the game to St. Louis or any other Midwest locale with a dome because of the Bears large regional fan base.
The Chicago Tribune is citing a source who spoke on a condition of anonymity that if the game isn't played in Minnesota the likely destination is Atlanta's Georgia Dome.

The big reason why the Bears - Vikings game might go to Atlanta is because ESPN has a Monday night game in the Georgia Dome the next week.
Since the OSG HQ is in Atlanta and if they give away tickets like in Detroit, we are there.

Metrodome Repair Timeline Unknown

The diagnosis on the Metrodome is critical, and the prognosis is a long one for the building to become its old self again...
Here's what's wrong...
The triangular panel on west side of the building was severely damaged. All three Teflon panels need to be replaced. A quick patch job just won't work. The snow and ice still on the sagging Dome are complicating the repairs.
During an inspection last April, Birdair, the company made the Metrodome, said overall it was in good condition, except for the interior, which was in poor shape. But even on the outside of the Dome, crews had to replace patches that were coming loose.

Now, they're trying to get TCF Bank Stadium in line for the next home game- five days from now. If you're interested in the clean-up... the info is courtesy of the Vikings...
Volunteers will be accepted at 8 a.m., Noon and 4 p.m. beginning Thursday. Volunteer help will be accepted at those times on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. No volunteer help is being requested or accepted for Wednesday.
Volunteers should gather outside the Lincoln County entrance to TCF Bank Stadium at the times listed above.
Volunteers must be 18 years of age and are encouraged to wear proper outdoor attire. Shovels will be provided, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own shovel if they wish.

The diagnosis on the Metrodome is critical, and the prognosis is a long one for the building to become its old self again...
Here's what's wrong...
The triangular panel on west side of the building was severely damaged. All three Teflon panels need to be replaced. A quick patch job just won't work. The snow and ice still on the sagging Dome are complicating the repairs.
During an inspection last April, Birdair, the company made the Metrodome, said overall it was in good condition, except for the interior, which was in poor shape. But even on the outside of the Dome, crews had to replace patches that were coming loose.

Now, they're trying to get TCF Bank Stadium in line for the next home game- five days from now. If you're interested in the clean-up... the info is courtesy of the Vikings...
Volunteers will be accepted at 8 a.m., Noon and 4 p.m. beginning Thursday. Volunteer help will be accepted at those times on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. No volunteer help is being requested or accepted for Wednesday.
Volunteers should gather outside the Lincoln County entrance to TCF Bank Stadium at the times listed above.
Volunteers must be 18 years of age and are encouraged to wear proper outdoor attire. Shovels will be provided, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own shovel if they wish.
If this interests you, or you know a friend that could use the work, please contact the Minnesota Sports Turf Managers Association office at 952-473-3722. Below are the available shifts.

Vikes Want Gophers Stadium As Back-Up, Now They'll Get It...

Since Vikings owner Zygi Wilf lost a reported $9-million in the shifting of the Vikes-Giants game to Detroit, the Vikings are looking to keep their next home game in town.
If the Metrodome can't be repaired by the Bears game on the 20th, TCF Bank Stadium on the Minnesota campus is the desired Number Two space...
Here's the details on that idea...

PM UPDATE: The Bears game on Monday will be played at the TCF Bank Stadium. The University of Minnesota is already preparing the stadium. Officials say the biggest issue with the stadium is the amount of snow.

Metrodome officials said the stadium roof repairs will not be done in time for the game, so the Vikings will play outdoor football in Minnesota for the first time in 31 years.
"We have four to five-foot drifts from blowing snow on east end of the field, concourse, upper levels," said University of Minnesota Facilities Manager Scott Ellison. "It's going to be a monumental task to get all the snow out."

DEVELOPING: Favre Streak Ends at 297
Brett Favre is inactive for the Minnesota Vikings' game with the New York Giants, ending his record consecutive starts streak at 297, dating back to 1992.
Vikings spokesman Jeff Anderson said Favre is not suited up for the game.
He has an injured right shoulder. Conventional wisdom maintains that the seriousness of his injury is a three week recovery, this being week one...

BREAKING: Metrodome Roof Collapses, Giants-Vikes Won't Play There...Detroit Instead...
The teflon roof covering the Metrodome's Mall of America field has collapsed due to heavy amounts of snow.
Around 5AM local time Sunday the roof of the "Dome" caved in far enough to where it was not visible from ground level.
The Metrodome was supposed to be the site of a "Sunday" football game between the Vikings and the New York Giants until the NFL offices rescheduled the game to Monday night.

1015 UPDATE: According to Dennis McGrath of the Star-Tribune, the roof tore in three places shortly after 5 a.m., said Roy Terwilliger, head of the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission.
From McGrath:
In the meantime, the NFL, Vikings, Giants and Dome officials have held three conference calls -- two Saturday night and one early this morning.
"The NFL has a set procedure in their policy for when a facility is not available," he said.
"The only thing we can say right now is that it's not practical to have a game here today, tomorrow or even Tuesday," Terwilliger said.
1115 UPDATE: NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said via Twitter accountthat the league is considering playing the game at TCF Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus Monday night, or in another NFL domed stadium- most likely in Detroit, St. Louis, or Indianapolis.
"The facility -- we don't think sustained other damage to the seats or scoreboard or other structures," Terwilliger said.
Terwilliger said the focus now is on trying to get the Dome repaired in time for the December 20th game against the Chicago Bears.
1145 UPDATE: The NFL Network, through their sources, is saying the game will be moved to Ford Field in Detroit and will kickoff at 7:20 Monday night. The FOX network already had TV equipment in place there and it became the logical choice.
The game will be available to the Twin Cities, New York, and Rochester, Minnesota markets. It will also be available to Sunday Ticket subscribers.

BRREAKING NEWS: Happy Thanksgiving Brad Childress...you're fired!

Childress's replacement, defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, a man who should've been a head coach long before today.
Childress's departure comes on the heels of a humiliating 31-3 loss to Green Bay, one of many humiliations the Vikings have suffered this season. That dropped them to 3-7 and likely out of playoff contention. Something that surprised many pundits who assumed they were one game away from the Super Bowl last year and have Brett Favre, so they must be a Super Bowl team. Wrong again!
Oh and did we mention that he's fought most of season with Favre, through mostly the press and his players openly talked of how he's lost the locker room. And then there was the Randy Moss incident, one in which honestly, he probably made the right move for his team, but was blasted because of the way he did it. No, PR was not his best suit.
Vikings owner Zygi Wilf and Leslie Frazier will meet with the assembled media at 4pm eastern today. We'll try and update this story with video from that, later this afternoon.
