Man sues Mike Gundy for firing him for wearing wrong shirt

Mike Gundy
((ht: tulsa world))

Holy crap, some things you just can't make up. Listen to this:

According to the Tulsa World, a contractor is filing a "Breach of contract" suit against Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy.

The reason...

He showed up to do work on Gundy's house wearing an Oklahoma Sooner baseball shirt.

No, really.

Brent Loveland says he lost money because he turned other jobs down to work on Gundy's house in Stillwater. He's suing, supposedly to recoup that money.

As the story goes in the suit, Loveland was going to do trim work at Gundy's house, he allegedly showed up his 1st day at work wearing the t-shirt. He claims when Gundy saw him Gundy said, "How dare you come into my house and offend my wife"

No really.

Read the entire story from the Tulsa World RIGHT HERE

This is almost too funny for words. 1st of all, Gundy needs to lighten up. But we know, based on his famous "I'm a man, and I'm 40" speech, he's wound pretty tight. Second, Loveland is a moron. Dude, think about what you are doing before you do it. And don't claim you wore the shirt because it was dark and you didn't see the logo.

Really, coaches need to lighten up about things like this. If it's true, Gundy should have just laughed it off. While coaches live, eat and breathe their team and their team only, they need to realize not everybody in the world thinks or is aware of the same things they are.

Because this video never gets old.....(from ESPN/YouTube)

We don't care for Justin Bieber, but he's a fan of Mike Gundy

As much as we don't care for the little Australian shrimp, we have to give him some props for this, we actually laughed.

Though The Bieber is only 16, he apparently is somewhat of a Sports fan. He, like oh, so many of us, apparently though the Mike Gundy rant from three years ago, when he shouted during a Press Conference..."I'm a man, I'm 40"...was really funny.

You can see it here as a refresher:

It seems as though Bieber liked it so much, he made it the Ringtone....for his cellphone. Check out this clip, though you'll have to wait through a few minutes of Radio Disney drivel before you get to it:

God bless Mike Gundy, because he appears to have a heck of a good sense of humor. When informed about The Bieber's adulation....he had a response:

TWTW: McCluster McScrews OSU In Cotton Bowl

((HT: Newsok.com))

It took Ole Miss Head Coach Houston Nutt about five games to figure out that running a "traditional" ground attack just wasn't going to cut it in the SEC in 2009.

He then gave Dexter McCluster the ball and defenses had trouble tracking him down...

The Cotton Bowl was another example...

182 yards on the ground and two touchdowns- including the game-winner with a little over four minutes to go...

But the larger issue for Mike Gundy and the Cowboys was the fourth quarter in general... six turnovers- seven overall...

Not six turnovers in a game... in the FOURTH QUARTER...

Zac Robinson threw four interceptions on the day, but the Ole Miss offense seemed to pick up after QB Jevan Snead got absolutely clocked on a blindside block and had to sit out the remainder because of concussion-like symptoms...

Draw your own conclusions...

NewsOK's Jenni Carlson and Oklahoman Sports Editor Mike Sherman talk about the second half disaster that was OSU Football...

Here's Pat Summerall's call of the McCluster 86-yard TD run...

TWTW: Bedlam...??? For Who...??? Pokes Shut Out 27-0

((HT: Newsok.com/Tramel))

Just when you thought Oklahoma had checked out, they checked back in...

Shutting out Oklahoma State 27-0 Saturday...
The Cowboys were held to 6 first downs and never crossed the Oklahoma 45-yard line...

Here's the line of the day from Mike Gundy...
((No, not that one...))

"Wish we would have played better," said State coach Mike Gundy. "Don't feel like we gave them our best."

F'real, coach...??? Never would have guessed...

TWTW: Stunned In Stillwater, Oklahoma State Falls To Houston

A week after defeating Georgia and feeling invincible the Oklahoma State Cowboys gets beatdown at Boone Pickens Stadium by the Houston Cougars 45-35. Talk about a humbling experience.

"Everybody's been telling them how good they've been and how good they are." Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy said. "They're going to see the other side of it."

On the same field where OSU got a signature win last week against Georgia the Pokes witness Houston turn the same trick. The Cougars have been flying way under the radar except for those who follow Conference USA. This win means the Coogs are legit.

"For us, as a program, this is a big win." Houston head coach Kevin Sumlin said. "It legitimizes our university. It legitimizes our program. There's no doubt that one win does not make a season. We got a whole bunch of football to go, but I think anytime that you can go on the road and win and beat a top 10 team, it really helps your confidence as a program and it helps your pride as a university."

Houston quarterback Case Keenum was not to shabby on Saturday throwing for 366 yards and 3 touchdowns and leading the Cougars to their first win over a top 5 opponent since 1984.

Oklahoma State meanwhile became the latest victim of the famed Sports Illustrated cover jinx, even if coach Gundy denies it.
"I don't believe in the SI jinx," Gundy said. "I don't think that played a role. I think Houston played a good football game."

Yes coach Gundy they did and the SI jinx lives.

OSU fans, you had to have seen something like this coming. How many times have you seen this scenario in college football, get a huge program defining win early in the year against big time program (or in OSU's case, an SEC school Georgia.) only to suffer a unexplainable loss the next week.

This loss really hurts Oklahoma State and the Cowboys will take a tumble in the polls. Whatever street cred the Pokes got for whipping the mighty Georgia Bulldogs is gone. I hesitate to say OSU is an underachieving team but that might be the case unless the Cowboys bounce back.

The Pokes get Houston's other school, Rice next week in Stillwater, then Grambling before beginning Big 12 Conference play at a tough venue, Kyle Field in College Station, Texas against the Aggies of Texas A&M. That game against the Aggies has become very interesting.

Gundy's Sphincter gets Tighter

All of us who have followed Sports on both a professional and fan level are aware that Coaches can be...shall we say..."Odd, sometimes paranoid" people. Such is the case it seems with perennial OSG Favorite, Oklahoma State Coach Mike Gundy "He's a man damnit!".

As we inch towards the opening weekend of the College Football season, he has basically tried to put his team in seclusion. Media...of any kind was banned from practice for roughly 12 days. Gundy tried to explain his logic as "Too many repetitive questions", "The kids needed a break". While I get the repetitive questions thing, dude, don't put it back on "Protecting the players".

Anyway, his explanation to the Tulsa World here .

((Mike Gundy looks over his shoulder//Courtesy: Stephen Holman/Tulsa World))

Now comes word that he apparently is fearful of having his team shake hands with their opening game opponents, the Georgia Bulldogs. The American Football Coaches Association has encouraged teams to shake hands with their opponents before kicking off their games. Mind you it's not required, just encouraged. Gundy however is fearful that "He is torn over doing it" "He is fearful that it could start a brawl". It sounds to us like, he's being...say it...PARANOID.

The story from NewsOK.com here .

Granted, the fighting Gundy's have had a pretty bad week. After getting grief over the Media Ban, it got worse when starting Tight End Jamal Mosley left the team for personal reasons earlier this week. And as an added bonus, starting Cornerback Parrish Cox was arrested for driving with a suspended license late last week.

It sounds an awful lot like the Gundy's are "Feeling the pressure" of being a "Media Darling", a trendy pick to run the table and make the BCS. While they are a very talented team, you don't want your Sphincter's to be that tight going into game 1, it could make for a really, really stressful and tough season.

I found this bit on the You Tube, the fine folks at National Lampoon having a little fun with Gundy's famous rant. Perhaps they are right, he may need some Zoloft. Enjoy the video:

Oklahoma State Starting Tight End Dismissed From Team

Oklahoma State has their biggest game in years facing Georgia Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater and now head coach has a big distraction.

Sophomore Jamal Mosley (pictured), who was Oklahoma State's starting tight end heading into the Georgia game, has been dismissed from the team.

"Jamal Mosley is leaving our football team for personal reasons," Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy said in a statement. "He has been a good teammate and we wish him the best. We will have no further comment on this matter."

The Daily Oklahoman in Oklahoma City is reporting that according to the Oklahoma State Courts Network, Mosley was presented with a a restraining order on Thursday that was filed in Payne County, Oklahoma court. It is not known whether that was the reason Mosley was dismissed.

The Dirty Dozen...The TURKEY Edition!

It's Almost Done!

Despite what our friends at the Four-Letter Word say, this is the week...that TRULY is rivalry week. Alabama/Auburn, Georgia/Georgia Tech, Florida/Florida State, Oklahoma/Oklahoma State and Texas/Texas A&M are all RIVALRIES that truly define what college footbal is about. I guess, because of the BCS implications, the biggest of the games is the Battle of Oklahoma, but as always, expect the crazy this week, it always happens.

Last Week: 7-2, though I got the regulation final in the Crapple Cup, but since I didn't pick the winner, I lose. Overall: 67-17, not bad for a rookie, eh?

The Dozen:

1. Alabama (They are still undefeated. I'm not totally sold that they will run the table, unfortunately, it won't be this week when they lose. This Week: Alabama 27, Auburn 13)

2. Florida (Well, if you want to argue who the best team this year is, these are the guys that I would take ((I can't believe I'm saying this))it must be the thought of Tryptophan. This Week: Florida 41, FSU 27)

3. Oklahoma (They have a steak...get it...in how this all plays out too. Even though they lost to Texas, I think they are better. They better watch out this week, they play the Gundy's. This Week: Oklahoma 37, Oklahoma State 34)

4. Texas (They argue too much. They gave a game to Texas Tech and I'm not sure how they have made it to this level. This Week: Texas 38, Texas A&M 17)

5. USC (Again, not convinced ((boy I sound really negative this week don't I?)). Heck, they may not even win there conference. They too play a rivalry game, just not an in-state one. This Week: USC 24, Notre Dame 13)

6. Utah (I finally know the name of the coach: Kyle Whittingham. Hooray for me! Nice to see them in the BCS Party, it sucks that they will be a sacraficial((sp?)) Turkey for someone in a bowl. This Week: The Season is over)

7. State Penn (Joe Pa had his surgery, nobody has committed a felonius act on campus lately, all must be well in the Great State of Pennsylvania. This Week: The Season is over, they go to the Rose Bowl...and there was much rejoicing!)

8. Texas Tech (Well, reality finally came crashing in. I didn't think they'd win last week, but I didn't think they'd get embarrassed like that either. This Week: Texas Tech 112, Baylor 17)

9. Boise State (Well, they survived, but alas they won't make the BCS, though they probably are worthy compared to several other teams ((see USC)). But, it was a good season none the less. This Week: Boise State 31, Fresno State 21)

10. Ohio State (I just don't get this team, never have. But they play in the 10, where mediocrity rules. This Week: Season over, playing in the Crap One Bowl probably vs. Georgia)

11. Okie State (We just like the fightin' Mike Gundy's, we really do. Plus, they aren't a bad team, though this may drop them out of the Dozen for the season. This Week: See #3)

12. Ball State (Congratulations for running the table. You are worthy of a Top 10, but sadly, this will be as close as you get. Maybe David Letterman will create a Bowl Game for you. This Week: Season over, waiting for a bowl invite)

The Turkey Gizzards:

5. Notre Dame (Can someone please explain how they lose to Syracuse at home? Just when you think these guys might be returning to respectability, they tank. Will Charlie the Hut survive this? Does anyone care? This Week: USC kills them)

4. Meesh-a-gain (Wow, how the mighty fall and fall and then fall again. They are pretty bad and may not be good for awhile. This Week: Season is over mercifully)

3. Schmoo (Even the Schmoo had more success than these guys. June Jones is probably wishing it was June instead of November right now. This Week: Southern Miss. 31, Schmoo 14)

2. Washington State (Just because Washington gave you the game doesn't move you out of here. This is still one of the worst teams in the history of NCAA Division 1 football. This Week: Hawaii 28, Washed State 13)

1. Washington (God they suck. Tyrone Willingham's legacy here unfortunately will not be a good one. Yes, they may have made history...as the worst team in NCAA Football. This Week: Cali-forn-i-a 34, Washington 10)

HoHoHo...to all a...oh...wrong holiday. Everyone enjoy a Happy Turkey! They taste better.

The Dirty Dozen Continued

Sorting it Out...

Well here comes the homestretch and things are beginning to get interesting. As good as we were 2 weeks ago with the picks, last week, wasn't so great. Maybe Texas Tech does get it and can run the table or Alabama wins out. But our guess is that at least one of the one loss teams is going to end up in Miami.

Last week was a 11-2 with 1 delay of game. (I take credit for Florida because I said whoever scored 1st would win) For the season that makes me 37-10. Pretty damn smart, eh?

This Weeks List:

1. Al-a-bama (The fighting Saban's land here by default right now. They still haven't been tested, but I think that is going to change. This Week: LSU 20, The Sabanators 17)

2. State Penn (Yes, I was a week ahead with them too. They are pretty lucky the play in the 10, they shouldn't be tested before there bowl game...unfortunately. This Week: The Joe Pa's 27, Iowa 10)

3. Texas Tech (I'm stunned they beat Texas, but...I still don't think anyone in the Big 12 can play defense, them included. The dream ends here. This Week: Okie St. 48, Texas Tech 45)

4. Florida (What they did to Georgia was impressive. Pretty much the ulitimate payback there. They will struggle until they play in the SEC championship game. This Week; Gay-tors 23, Vandy 17)

5. Oh..kla..homa (Solid. Oklahoma vs. Nebraska used to be a great rivalry kind of game, boy have things changed. This Week: Oh..kla...homa 38, Texas A&M 14)

6. Texas (How do you let Michael Crabtree get near a football at the end of a game? Someone will be thinking about that the rest of the year. This Week: Texas 38, Baylor 21)

7. USC (Pete Carroll, quit whining. If you don't lose to Oregon State, you don't have this discussion about dropping. But you always lose games like that, so deal with it. This Week: USC 21, Cal 17)

8. Oklahoma State (They still have a chance to make an impact this season. Mike Gundy always has a chance...after all...HE'S A MAN! This Week: The Fighting Mike Gundy's 48, Texas Tech 41)

9. Boise State (Yes, they are here. No I don't think they will stay. They will end up in the lowest level BCS game because that is what they do. This Week: Boise State 27, Utah State 10)

10. TCU (They go above Utah because they play really good defense and they play the Utes this week. I'm not sure how worthy they are either, but I guess we will find out soon. This Week: TCU 24, Utah 17)

11. Utah (I'm still not really sure what they are doing here. I suppose either the UTES or the Horned Frogs won't be after this week. This Week: See above)

12. Ball State (Kudos to David Letterman's alma matter. They deserve this chance. Though because of where they play they are on TV on wierd days. They won there game this past Tuesday over N.Illinois. This Coming Week: Ball State 35, Miami of Ohio 23)

The Bottom of the Barrel:

5. Meechagain (Gosh, this is funny. Does anyone else see the humor in this? I can finally put them in a top...or in the case bottom 5 list. This Week: Minnesota 23, Michigan 21)

4. San Diego State (At least it's nice out there. Sometimes it's better to look good then to be good...or something like that. This Week: BYU 43, S.D. State 14)

3. SMU (If I'm June Jones...I don't know, can someone explain again to me why he took this job. They haven't been good since the Wild West days of Craig James and Eric Dickerson. This Week: Walking in Memphis 21, SMU 10)

2. Washington (They are flat embarrassing. Now Ty Willingham is getting the Pink Slip. How do you sell someone on this job? This Week: Arizona State 24, Washington 10)

1. Washington State (I think I'm going to alternate these 2 all year long. I don't even want to get into detail about these guys. This Week: Arizona 31, Washed Up State 6)

*Special mention. Somehow North Texas managed to win last week. Maybe it was the "Recreational Substances" maybe it wasn't. Either way congratulations, you are off the island.

The Dirty Dozen Return (with Picks too!)

Starting to Settle

Well, as we approach the end of October and the beginning of November, things are finally beginning to shake out. We have some clarity as to who may be playing in Miami in December, who is just looking for Conference glory and also who probably will be looking for new coaches.

Just so you all know last week's picks I was 12-1 (with one future pick in the bottom that doesn't count yet). That makes us/me 26-8, not bad for an Internet geek, eh? Here's a look at Halloween Weekend:

1. Texas (Just look at how good Colt McCoy has been, that will answer any and all questions. Perhaps McCoy will dress as Superman this week. This Weeks Game: Texas 45, Texas Tech 31)
2. Alabammie (I'm pretty sure Nick Saban's costume will be the Devil...oh wait, I'm kidding...well not really. This Weeks Game: Alabammie 40, Arkansas St. 10) *how does this get on the schedule at this time of year?*
3. State Penn (Ok, so they beat Ohio State. It's the conference people, they are really bad. Gosh, there are so many jokes I could make about Joe Pa's costume, what ever should I do? This Week: State Penn 27, Iowa 14)
4. Oh..klahomer (These guys have been kind of quiet, but are sitting and waiting for an undefeated to lose. Perhaps Bob Stoops will be Batman this year? This Week: Oklahoma 41, Nebraska 23)
5. Florida (I'm still waiting to be convinced about this Track Team. Saturday should be interesting. I don't think they will counter-celebrate against Georgia, but you never know. Perhaps Urban Meyer could be The Joker? This Week: If they score 1st Florida 48, Georgia 27)
6. Georgia (Very good win at LSU last week. This is make or break week for there season and I think that they know it. Picture Mark Richt as Elvis Presley for Halloween! This Week: If they score first UGA 35, Florida 31)
7. Southern Callie (They are not as good as the pollsters think damn it! The PAC 10 may be worse than the big 10. Picture Pete Carroll dressed as Bo Derek in the movie 10! This Week: USC 51, Washington 10)
8. Texas Tech (A good team, not a great team. They will be exposed this week. They will end up with at least 2 losses. Perhaps Mike Leach can be Kenny Rogers as the Gambler? This Week: See #1)
9. Oklahoma State (I kind of like the Fighting Mike Gundy's. As a matter of fact all of OSG likes the Mike Gundy's. However, they weren't quite ready to beat Texas. Maybe Mike Gundy can go dressed up as J-Dub for Halloween? This Week: The Mike Gundy's 37, Iowa State 20)
10. Utah (How'd they get in here? Do they play football? They must be OK if they are undefeated, but like all WAC teams, they will lose eventually. Is it wrong that I don't know who the Coach is. If I did he could dress up like Chrissy Hynde of the Pretenders-good one eh? This Week: Utah 41, New Mexico 12)
11. Boise State (The Fiesta Bowl win seems so long ago, yet Ian Johnson still plays here? Who is he trying to be, Freddy Weygand? Perhaps Chris Peterson can dress up as Ian Johnson? This Week: Boise State 24, New Mexico State 7)
12. Free Shoes University (I couldn't resist. The fighting Bowden's are back and I don't think they've stolen anything this year...have they? Perhaps Bobby can dress up as a Store Clerk this year. This Week: FSU 23, Ga.Tech 19)
The Bottom of the Barrel:
5. Meech-again (I just like the thought of this. Maybe they'll recover next year, but its fun while it lasts. Perhaps Rich Rodriguez can dress up as a guy with Regrets. This Week: Purdue 31, Michigan 21)
4. Syrie-Cyuuuse (Rumor has it the Bye Week beat them last week. Contractual obligations require me to repost this weeks score. Greg Robinson is rumored to be dressing as the invisible man. This Week: Louisville 31, Syracuse 10)
3. SMU (No truth to rumor that they were going to be renamed the Shmoo, cause that would mean they'd be a bad 70's cartoon. Though they are a bad football team. Maybe June Jones will dress as a coach for another team? This Week: Memphis 27, Shmoo 14)
2. Washington State (I just wanted to alternate them with Washington. I'm still waiting for them to announce they are moving...to the NAIA. Ooops, I put this game on last week board too, but don't change the pick. Again, I can't think of the Coaches name, but then again, does it matter? This Week: Stanford Tree 31, Washed State 3)
1t. Washington (Ty Willingham should just walk away. So should college football fans in Washington State. This is a bad football team without much hope. Perhaps Ty can dress up as a Horror Movie Victim this year. This Week: See the USC listing above)
*special sorry note* North Texas. Just look at the story earlier on the blog.

The Damn Dirty Dozen Again!

More Conference Fun Ahead...

This is like the greatest time of the year for College Football, isn't it? We are getting deep into the conference schedules and we are finding out, kinda like Santa Claus, who's been naughty and who's been nice (ok, so good and not so good might work better-chalk it up to the cooler weather).
Last Week 10-3, Overall 16-7. Expect the Dozen to shift further after this week:
1. Texas (Yes, they deserve it. If Colt McCoy keeps completing 81% of his passes, these guys may never lose. This Week: Texas 41, Ok. State 24)
2. Alabama (The best 1st Half team in the country. The 2nd half...not so much. This Week: Alabamie 16, Tennessee 9)
3. State Penn (Looks like they are here to stay. Win this week and they can coast. Maybe if they get to the BCS, JoePa will finally go away. This Week: State Penn 20, Ohio St. 13)
4. Oh..klahoma (Where the sweeps down the plains. Probably the best 1 loss team out there, can they stay that way? This Week: Oklahoma 47, K-State 27)
5. Oh..klahoma...State (The fighting Mike Gundy's are pretty good. Saying Mike Gundy mulitple times is good for OSG business. This Week: Poor Mike Gundy, See #1)
6. Florida (Not totally sold yet, the next couple of weeks will tell. I can't wait until next week in Jacksonville-((i'll be there)) This Week: Florida 23, Kentucky 13)
7. Texas Tech (Again, not buying this. They will lose, it's just a matter of when, they still have no "D". This Week: Texas Tech 41, Kansas 34)
8. Georgia (I'm still waiting for a breakout performance from these guys. They've underachieved, but they also have had a major injury bug hit them. This Week: Georgia 23, LSU 20)
9. USC (I don't know why they jumped so high after killing Wash. State, everyone smashes them. They are good, I don't think they are great+the PAC 10 sucks. This Week: USC 41, Arizona 20)
10. Ohio State (The most confusing team in the NCAA. They are never as good as they appear. That hasn't changed for the 59th year in a row. This Week: See #3)
11. LSU (The personnel turnover is finally catching up with LeSmiles. Beating South Carolina isn't all that great now, is it? This Week: See #8)
12. Georgia Tech (I don't know how, but they are 6-1. Don't sell these guys short. They aren't always pretty but they play hard and have a helluva "D". This Week: Ga.Tech 20, Virginia 6)

The Bottom of the Barrel:

5. SMU (Paging June Jones, June Jones, please pick up the white courtesy phone, it's last year in Hawaii calling. This Week: Navy 41, SMU 14)

4. Syrie-cuse (Will someone please put them out of their misery? Paging Dr. Kevorkian, Dr. Kevorkian? This Week: Louisville 35, Little Orange 10)

3. North Texas (Do we really need to say anything else. I'm suprised the State of Texas hasn't expelled them from the state. This Week: Troy 38, North Texas 6)

2. Washington (This kind of explains why they never get sunshine in the Pacific Northwest this time of year. Has anyone checked to see if there is a Shleprock on the roster? This Week: Notre Dame 27, Washington 17) ed. note-these guys must really suck if I pick ND to beat them

1. Washington State (USC's 4th team scored at will, Elon's 3rd team scored on them, Valdosta States 2nd team scored on them and Shorter's scout team scored on them. God they suck! This Week: Stanford 31, Wash.St. 3 ((bless the trees!))

That is all we've got. If you are a fan of the Bottom of the Barrel, well, Basketball season is on the way soon. Have a Great Day!

Watch Out For Oklahoma State - Coach Gundy, Your Wife Is On The Phone

One of the perks in working in local TV was the occasional trip to Stillwater, Oklahoma to check out an Oklahoma State game at Lewis Field (now Boone Pickens Stadium), cover an OSU Cowboy game then grab a meal at Eskimo Joe’s. If you ever go to Stillwater go there, it’s a Stillwater institution.

At the start of the college football season, you expected Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma to challenge for the Big 12 South division title. Oklahoma State wasn’t supposed to in the mix but the Pokes are there. With OSU’s ascension the Big 12 South has become arguably the toughest division in college football.

Mike Gundy has gone from raving lunatic (“I’m a man! I’m 40!”) to a hot coaching commodity in a calendar year. Gundy has led the Cowboys to a 6-0 start and ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll for the first time since 1988. The Pokes are 8th in the AP Poll, it’s highest ranking since 1985 when they were 7th.

“It's tremendous. The players have worked very hard and they deserve it.”
Gundy said.

Things are so good for Gundy he even joked with the Oklahoma media. At his weekly presser the Mrs. called, check out how he handled that. (Thanks, NewsOK.com)
