They talk about Tony Dungy and some other Colts stuff but then Manning discussed Lane Kiffin's short but memorable tenure at Tennessee. Let's just say Manning wasn't that crazy about Kiffy-kins and the way he treated the Big Orange Nation.

Guess Who Wants Back Into Football...... Maurice Clarett
Maurice Clarett went from a sure thing running back who led Ohio State to a national championship in 2002 to an NFL castoff to a convicted felon in the span of 3 years.He's out of a Toledo, Ohio prison now after serving a 3 and a half year sentence for aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon and just finished a 4 1/2 months in what the Associated Press called a "locked-down, dormitory-style facility that serves as a transition for those getting out of prison."
Now Clarett has the itch to get back into football and the United Football League is willing to give him a shot.
Clarett and his attorney filed a motion with a judge asking to be allowed to travel to try out with the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks. Clarett cannot leave the state of Ohio until he receives clearance from the court. A review of the motion is scheduled for August 30th.
"Since he re-enrolled in summer-quarter classes at Ohio State, he's been going to school and also working out each morning at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center," Clarett's attorney Michael Hoague was quoted by the AP. "He looks really good."
Let's hope this venture into professional football is better than his brief stint as a Denver Bronco. Oh by the way, Ted Sundquist, the former general manager of the Denver Broncos, who took Clarett in the third round of the 2005 NFL draft, is the player personnel director of the Nighthawks. Sundquist must see something we do not.

Apparently, Michael Jordan's sons and another UCF basketball player spent a rather...shall we say...extravagant weekend in Las Vegas.
Jeff Jordan, the older of the two Jordan siblings posted a Twitter update speaking about spending oh...over $50K on Saturday.

While we fully realize that Michael Jordan has...well...a lot of money, this doesn't smell too good. Never mind that the boys have picked up daddy's propensity for gambling. They brought a non-relative along with them. That friends, is an NCAA violation in the waiting. We are quite sure the non-Jordan on the trip, one A.J Rompza doesn't have that kind of cash available to throw away.
Oh...in case you were wondering, the younger Jordan, Marcus...is only 20, you are supposed to be 21 to gamble in Vegas. Guess its only a problem if you get caught.
Yes, we know the trio was there under the auspices of attending Michael's fantasy basketball camp, but we question the brain power on this one. Have they not heard that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?

DEVELOPING: Vin Scully Returns For 2011

Simers caught up with the best in the business Saturday and he sayeth quote:
"I know what I am going to do and I would imagine the Dodgers will arrange things so an announcement can be made before [Sunday's] game,'' said Scully, who will be 83 before the start of next season. "I'd like to do that so everyone hears it at the same time. It's the proper way to do it."
Scully has talked about the loneliness on the road and what its like to be away from his wife, but he announced today that he will return for the 2011 season...
The HQ would like to thank Mrs. Scully for another season to be graced with her husband's knowledge, expertise, and professionalism that ((we can only hope)) others will learn from in the future...

Well, so much for Chicago Cubs Manager Lou Piniella staying on for the rest of the regular season.
The Cubs have become so much of a dumpster fire, the current-soon-to-be-ex manager is out after a leisurely Sunday game against the Atlanta Braves.
The HQ will remember Piniella for his fire as a player and a manager...

"As many know, the several weeks since that announcement was made have been very difficult on a family level, requiring two leaves of absence from the club. While I fully intended to manage this club the rest of the season, a family situation at home now requires my full attention."

Rare Syndrome Hits Oregon HS Football Team
Eighteen high school football players from the McMinnville ((OR)) Grizzlies High School football team were hospitalized last week. Three needed surgery when they experienced swelling in their upper arms after a training camp.
Authorities said they were suffering from "compartment syndrome," which results in tenderness and swelling in their triceps and elbows.
The cause still remains a mystery. Local reports say ten of the team's players are still in the hospital.
WebMD describes Compartment Syndrome this way in its hemophilia section: "bleeding into certain muscles puts enough pressure on arteries and nerves to cause a medical emergency that requires immediate treatment to prevent permanent damage to muscle, bones, and other tissue."
Symptoms of compartment syndrome include:
Weakness and paleness in the affected extremity.
Swelling and numbness.
Severe pain during movement.
Inability to move an extremity (paralysis).

When Bobby Lashley decided to chuck his wrestling career in favor of an MMA life, Momma said there'd be days like this...
But Momma didn't tell him that it would be like this against Chad Griggs in Houston.
Lashley's takedowns in Strikeforce's Houston event gave him Round One, but the fatigue got to him at the end of Round Two and he couldn't last in the end of the round.

Sullivan South High School Senior captain Jake Logue collapsed during their game against Knoxville West. The cause of death was concluded to be a bicuspid aortic valve- a condition Jake was born with. This year, the season opener for South was at home in the return game.
South held a ceremony in Logue's honor, retiring his jersey, as both schools were united in strength, celebration, and memory.

Fay Vincent doesn't like Selig's decision to let Reds honor Rose...

On the heels of Bud Selig last week granting the Cincinnati Reds request to honor Pete Rose on the 25th anniversary of Rose setting baseball's all-time hit record, former commissioner Fay Vincent was a little less than pleased about the decision.
Vincent told the New York Post that "When the keeper of the Rules does not enforce the Rules, there are no rules". An interesting quote.

This whole subject is of some interest here in the Northern office due to our proximity to the aforementioned baseball team. We understand both Vincent and Selig's position on this and the Reds for their part didn't do anything wrong by asking.
Ironically, Rose won't be able to be there on the actual day of the anniversary, he has a previous engagement with a Casino in Southeastern Indiana that particular day.
Interpret that one however you'd like.

Jay Mariotti is in a bit of trouble...
You might be asking yourself...who is Jay Mariotti? Well, Jay Mariotti is a sports columnist on Fanhouse.com and frequent contributor to an obscenely horrible ESPN TV show called "Around the Horn".
Mariotti, was arrested in Los Angeles after allegedly getting into an argument with his girlfriend at a club. (shock)

Ordinarily, we wouldn't get too excited over this story and really we aren't. We just feel as though we should report on Sports reporters who report quite frequently on athletes who perpetrate these kind of acts, so it is only fair that the tables be turned.

Another Race, Another Keselowski Incident
NASCAR officials aren't planning any punishments for Kyle Busch or Brad Keselowski over Friday's Nationwide Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Busch admitted that he "dumped" Keselowski after Keselowski got into the back of Busch's car with 31 laps remaining.
Vice president of competition Robin Pemberton called it "good, hard racing," but he did admit that he would be keeping an eye on the two of them.
Keselowski already is on probation for an incident involving him and Carl Edwards in the Sprint Cup race at Atlanta- which you've seen here before.
Busch drove back under Keselowski's left rear bumper and spun him after getting rubbed into the wall beforehand. Keselowski finished 14th.

At a press conference at Bristol Saturday, NASCAR driver Brian Vickers says he had
heart surgery last month as part of his treatment for blood clots.
Vickers stopped racing in May when doctors discovered clots in his leg and lungs. He said a third clot was found in a finger on his left hand. He said he had surgery to close a hole in his heart, and another one to insert a stent into a vein in his left leg.
He says doctors found he suffers from something called May-Thurner syndrome, a blood clot disorder that increases the risk of deep vein thrombosis.
Doctors say he's still okay to return to racing next season.

Serbia's Nenad Krstic, a center for the Oklahoma City Thunder, was released from police custody overnight following a brawl during a match with Greece in a friendly before the FIBA wourld championships around the corner.
The fight broke out during the last game of the Acropolis tournament, which was abandoned with 2:40 remaining and Greece up one...
The fight began when Greece forward Antonis Fotsis squared off against Serbia guard Milos Teodosic after Teodosic fouled him. Krstic grabbed Fotsis by the throat and threw a chair toward Sofoklis Schortsanitis, who was pursuing him. The chair hit Yannis Bouroussis, who had not played because of a hand injury, and left him with a bloody wound on the side of his head.
Got all that...???
Prosecutors released Krstic pending an investigation. Investigators from Greece's sports violence squad will examine video footage of the game and take statements from witnesses before deciding whether to bring charges.
Krstic returned to his hotel after being released and was due to leave Athens for Belgrade later on Friday. The rest of the Serbia team returned earlier

And they turned it down...

LeGarette Blount Flashes Back To College, Slugs Teammate
LeGarrette Blount decided to channel his old college self at Tennessee Titans practice the other night... he tried to go all Dory Funk, Junior to the helmet of defensive end Eric Bakhtiari after having his helmet ripped off.
He was carrying the ball in a drill near the goal line when his helmet came off, and he kept his feet moving toward the end zone.
The play ended with some pushing and shoving, and then Blount threw a right into Bakhtiari's facemask.

Percy Harvin recovering after collapsing during practice

Harvin, who had missed several practices due to a persistent migrane problems, was out there for the 1st time this week. He apparently doubled over a little after noon and eventually was taken to the hospital via an ambulance.

Thankfully, Vikings reciever Bernard Berrian tweeted just a couple of hours ago that he was with Harvin and that Harvin was doing okay.
Harvin has been dealing with the sometimes crippling headaches for years. They have already cost him two weeks of training camp time. Hopefully, he'll take the time and get fully checked out to see if there is a solution to this. We wish him well.
