Chan Gailey gets mad at Bills hecklers

Wow! We knew Chan Gailey was protective of his players and we knew he had a bit of a temper in him but we've got to applaud him for his actions today at Buffalo Bills practice.

Gailey decided after practice to go address a small group of younger, alleged Buffalo fans who were taunting his players...in particular Quarterback Trent Edwards during practice.

We like this on several levels though probably not nearly as much as Gailey's players did.

We understand that fans have a right to boo and voice there displeasure with players. But there is a time and/or limit to what should be said. If they aren't performing or are griping about things then yeah, we are okay with that. But that doesn't sound like what happened here.

If you are a so-called "Super-fan" and you take things too personally, which a lot of fans do, then don't come to the games or practices. Nobody is making you come.

Much the same as a "Fan" wouldn't like it if someone starting making personal insults about them and their family while they were hunched over a computer at their desks, athletes deserve some of that same respect. We aren't saying that you have to cheer for them all the time...you don't. But be respectful. You don't need to call them anything you wouldn't want to be called yourself.

Too often the stands at a football game are to rude and crude for a family to go to. There is not a really good reason for that.

Coach Gailey, we applaud you for taking a stand. We'll see how well it goes over with everyone else.

Bills Kick Tires Looking For Coach, End Up With Retread

WGR-AM550 in Buffalo is reporting that the Bills are holding a 2PM presser today in Orchard Park to name Chan Gailey as their new head coach...

Since the five previous interviews turned Ralph Wilson down, Gailey is the now-preferred choice ((???))...

**OSG Aside***- Perhaps the best reaction that we heard today about this story comes from Friend of the OSG Bruce Frazier when told of Gailey's hire "I wish the Buffalo Bills good luck for their upcoming appearance in next winter's Humanitarian Bowl in Boise". Nice!

We do wish the Bills luck...though we wonder about the choice.

Chopping The Heads Off NFL O.C.'s (With ACC Head Coaching In Their Past)

Jeff Jagodzinski has had better years. This past winter Jagodzinski was let go as Boston College head coach because he interviewed for the New York Jets head coaching job after B.C. athletic director Gene DeFlilippo told him that would not be in his best interests. Now the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who hired Jagodzinski as offensive coordinator last January, has fired Jags from that position just before the final pre-season game with Houston. Buccaneers.com released the following statement from Jagodzinski: “I am certainly disappointed but I wish nothing but the best for Raheem Morris and the entire Buccaneer organization. I was given the chance to remain on staff as the quarterbacks coach, but felt that the timing for such a move was not in the best interest for either side. I appreciate the opportunity that was given to me. Again, I wish nothing but the best for this organization.” One conclusion can be drawn before the NFL kicks off its regular season. If your a NFL offensive coordinator and you were a head coach in the ACC in the past, surviving the pre-season is iffy. KC Chiefs To Chan Gailey, You're Dismissed

This morning when the Kansas City Chiefs took to the practice field Chan Gailey was no where to be seen. That's because Gailey was "relieved of his duties" as the Chiefs offensive coordinator Monday.


Haley also said that making himself offensive coordinator while still finding his way as a head coach was the most difficult decision he's faced. He was offensive coordinator the past two years at Arizona.

"I think the world of Chan as a coach, have the greatest amount of respect for him as a coach, as a person," said Haley. "But ultimately, the fate of this team, the accountability, falls to me."

The Chiefs are 0-3 in the preseason and have scored only two offensive touchdowns. The injury to Cassel on Saturday raises even more questions about how ready the Chiefs -- who were 2-14 last year -- will be for their season opener.

"After going through three preseason games and a lot of OTAs and a lot of practices in training camp, it became more apparent to me that I had to be more involved," Haley said.

No word on QB Matt Cassel's injury as of yet...
