Weather Damages Churchill Downs

Officials at Churchill Downs are working to relocate horses after a powerful storm that spawned tornadoes blew through Louisville. A few barns partially collapsed and horses were running loose Wednesday night at the track. The chapel was also damaged, but thankfully, there are no current reports of serious injuries.

No races are run on Wednesdays at Churchill Downs, but track President Kevin Flanery says there was simulcasting of races elsewhere, so people may have been there. Thursday's race card was canceled.

Louisville Gas and Electric reported about 5,000 were without power late Wednesday night.

“It’s been a rugged night at Churchill Downs,” track spokesman John Asher told Louisville Courier-Journal's Jessie Halladay.

Some horses had to be shipped to alternate sites, and training was also canceled.

The area in and around the University of Louisville and Cardinal Stadium also saw some damage, but there have been no injuries reported from there as well.

Jockey found dead in car at Churchill Downs

Jockey Michael Baze was found dead in his car, near gate 5 at Churchill Downs late Tuesday afternoon. Police don't believe there was any foul play involved, but are investigating.

Baze, from Washington state, had won some 918 race and made over $32 million during his horse racing career including nearly $1.2 million this year.

His last ride was nearly two weeks ago at Keeneland.

Baze was considered an up and coming star in the business and came from a family of Jockey's including his cousin, Russell Baze, the all-tiem leader in horse racing wins.

An autopsy on Baze is planned for today, so authorities can determine why he died.

Zenyatta Wraps Up Career 19-1

Zenyatta came within a head of finishing a perfect career...

Literally...

She was dead last at one point- almost 18 to 20 lengths back of the leaders- but came on like a house-a-fire in the last 500 yards. However, Blame held her off to win the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs in Louisville.

Zenyatta entered the race hoping to improve to 20-0 on her 6-year career. She just kinda hung out behind everyone for the first mile before closing.

Blame covered the 1 1/4-mile distance in 2:02.28 as a 5-to-1 shot. Fly Down held on for third, while Preakness champion Lookin At Lucky finished fourth.

Borel Goes 3 Of Last 4 In Derby

The HQ had a funny feeling going into the 136th Kentucky Derby. After thinking Sidney's Candy was in the best place on the board at post position 20, we turned to TBH and said, "Whaddya wanna bet Calvin Borel does it again on the rail...???"

Shame the HQ did take any money on that one...

The win ended trainer Todd Pletcher's Derby oh-fer-24 drought going in as Super Saver won the race in 2:04.45.

Ice Box nipped Paddy O'Prado at the wire for second.

Borel won a shocker last year aboard 50-1 long shot Mine That Bird.
Tom Durkin was shocked then, he wasn't so much this year...
