Anger Management For Bama Player And His Girlfriend

((HT: Tuscaloosa News/Upshaw))

University of Alabama football player Courtney Upshaw will attend anger management classes after a domestic violence incident in August involving his girlfriend.

Tuscaloosa County District Judge Joel Chandler will grant the 19-year-old sophomore linebacker youthful offender status, a standard sentence for someone that young with no previous criminal history.

Chandler will grant the youthful offender status if Upshaw completes the classes before a court hearing scheduled for Dec. 9.

Upshaw’s girlfriend, Kendall Lynn Gryzb, was also granted youthful offender status, which means the charge will not appear on their criminal records. She was also ordered to attend anger management classes.

The best part of the whole thing was when the girlfriend was leaving the courthouse...

Her father, who ranks right up there with Peter Graf, Mary Pierce's dad, and Marv Marinovich when it comes to "Father of the Year" candidates yelled the following to reporters as they were out the door...

He turned around to yell “Roll Tide!” as they left the building.

“This is as fine a young man as we have in the program,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban told reporters after the arrest. “Really a great person, really works hard academically, we couldn’t ask anyone to be a better representative of the organization.

“He was put in a compromising situation and didn’t handle it very well. He obviously made a mistake in how he handled the situation. I think nobody feels worse about it than he does.”

Winners all around...

Not the Way to Start the Season

For College Football teams, normally the late Spring and early Summer are the times that coaches dread the most. It's the time of year where they don't have control over there players. They aren't around very much and quite often that is the time when they get in trouble.

University of Alabama Linebacker Courtney Upshaw bucked that trend by getting arrested early today on a 3rd degree domestic violence/harrassment charge.

Upshaw, who was competing for a starting spot, might not be competing for it now. Alabama Coach Nick Saban is expected to talk about what happened later today.
