Sixers to get new owner...even if they don't play this year

Josh Harris
((ht: philly.com))

We'll, Comcast is getting out of the Sports ownership business. The mega-conglomorate has an agreement to sell the Philadelphia 76ers to billionaire businessman Josh Harris.

Harris is the primary investor in a leveraged buyout group who will take over the franchise for roughly $280 million, or $50 million less than Forbes values them.

And before the Philly fans start booing, Harris has family ties to the area and part of the agreement states the team will be a long-term tenant at the Wells Fargo Center.

Read the entire story from Philly.com RIGHT HERE

This, we have been aware of for some time, though we didn't know the who it would be part. There's no reason to believe Harris won't be a good owner as we generally think individuals are much better owners than corporations.

However, Harris may not get to find out what it is like for awhile. Yes, the NBA Board of Governor's need to approve the deal, but that is probably a formality. What's more significant is the NBA lockout which may or may not have an impact on his 1st season as an owner.

And despite the Owners pleading poverty and they are losing money, owning a team must not be that bad of an investment. After all, why would someone who makes a living investing, buy something that will be losing money from the minute he takes over?

Sixers On The Market, Sale "Imminent..."

((HT: MyFoxPhilly))

A Comcast-Spectacor official has confirmed the company is in ongoing negotiations about the future of the Philadelphia 76ers. One report says a deal to sell is "imminent."

Peter A. Luukko, who is Comcast-Spectacor's president and COO as well as chairman of Global Spectrum, issued this statement Tuesday: "I can confirm that we are in discussions about the future of the team, but these discussions are confidential and we cannot talk about the details. At some point, we may have something more to say about these discussions, but we will not be making any comments at this point."

Looks Joshua Harris, a billionaire who co-founded Apollo Global Management, and his leveraged-buyoutness are the name on everyone's lips at the moment to be the man instead of Ed Snider.

Snider is more associated with the Flyers than the 76ers, and it's interesting to the HQ that this news is confirmed on the same day as the new five-ringed circus deal with the folks in Switzerland. Comcast-Spectacor was not known to be shopping the 76ers, but that's the beauty of big business...

It's a need-to-know bid-ness, and we didn't need to know until the deal was almost all the way done...

Sixers cool off from the Heat: NBA Playoffs

And put off the inevitable for at least another couple of days.

The Philadelphia 76ers put on a great show Easter Sunday for their fans, taking down the team that most love to hate, the Miami Heat 86-82.

The game was a back and forth game that Philly had to come back and win after getting an early lead. And Miami reverted back to early season form...and couldn't close the game.

Are The Pistons In Mutiny...???

((HT: WXYZ-TV Detroit))

Chris Wilcox, Austin Daye, Rodney Stuckey and Richard Hamilton all missed the Pistons bus to the arena in Philadelphia yesterday for one reason or another. Daye and Stuckey caught their own rides, but missed the shootaround and didn’t arrive at ((what is now)) the Wells Fargo Center until the media availability was almost over.

Wilcox and Hamilton never showed up.

Tracy McGrady was excused with a headache and Tayshaun Prince had a stomach ache. Ben Wallace, who’s been dealing with a family matter, also missed the shootaround.

That left Charlie Villanueva, Greg Monroe, Will Bynum, Ben Gordon, DuJuan Summers and Jason Maxiell as attendees.

Here's an interview with for now-head coach John Kuester after the mutiny...
Sorry, "shootaround..."

Naturally, the Sixers won 110-94

And, by the way, Kuester only played the six that showed...

The New Superman Suspended

***BREAKING NEWS*** (Because when News Breaks, we fix it)

Orlando Magic Center/Strong guy Dwight Howard has been suspended for Game 6 of the Magic/Philadelphia 76ers series for throwing elbows. Ok, so he did physically throw his elbow joint, though he did wildly swing his elbows at the 76ers Samuel Dalembert while fighting for a rebound in Tuesday nights game. The Magic by the way won that game 91-78.

The Orlando Sentinel reports here

Check out video of the incident from NBA.com and the You Tube

Part of the reason Howard has no arguement with this, the league has the right to suspend Howard, who recieved his 2nd technical of the playoffs and his 14th of the season.

The 76ers, for there part are protesting/complaining rather loudly about Howard's physicality. Needless to say, Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy is none to pleased about the complaints and complains about the complaints.

((more thanks Orlando Sentinel for the video))

So now, Game 6 is in Philly and Orlando no longer has the services of its best player. How do you think that's going to work out? Well, there is always game 7
