And, as a result, they'll probably stay on top of the alphabet standings for another week.
This time, we found out that Cam Newton can throw, run, and catch...
Nothing like variety for the Trophy voters at the end of the year...
Here's our weekly visit from Don Hawes...
Next up for TBH and her Plainsmen is a visit from Chattanooga...
Not the city, just the Mocs football team... and Auburn fans would be more than happy to surrender their top ranking to Oregon since they've got to worry about Georgia and Alabama before the SEC title game, anyway...

TWTW: Arkansas Beats Ole Miss In An Empty Stadium
((HT: KTHV-11 Little Rock))
There's a certain sense of irony when a game is delayed twice by lightning...
And you have to finish it 90 minutes later than you would have liked...
Arkansas wins 38-24 as sophomore Knile Davis ran for 176 yards and three touchdowns, both career highs. The Razorbacks improve to 5-2 (2-2 in the SEC) and the Rebels drop to 3-4 (1-3 in the SEC).
The four quarter was well worth the price of admission alone...
Provided you were around to see it and hadn't gotten tired of hanging around by then...
Jeremiah Masoli may be finding his sea legs for Houston Nutt as he threw for three scores for the Black Bears...
Here's your highlights and a lot of discussion during them...

TWTW: Bama Rebounds Against Black Bears
((HT: WTVM Birmingham))
The HQ has heard another really wild stat...
There's this quarterback... for Alabama... and he's lost, like, only one game since he was an eighth grader or something...
That just AMAZING!!!
We've never heard that mentioned... ever...
Yep... we couldn't believe it, either...
And we still think that Houston Nutt is playing with karmic fire since he brought Jeremiah Masoli into the SEC- thus, all of his great numbers in a 23-10 loss to Alabama in front of 101-thousand people Saturday night...
What was he...? 4-for-12 or something...???
Enjoy your time as a grad student...
Chris Pollone was the one who had the really late night telling us what went down...

BREAKING: Masoli is Cleared
It looks like the Right Reverend Nutt can breathe again. Oregon transfer and the only experienced Quarterback on the Ole Miss roster, Jeremiah Masoli, won his appeal to the NCAA and will be able to play immediately...this season.
More from the Sun-Herald.com RIGHT HERE
We are being brief here, since we are working the higher paying job. We wish Masoli and the Rebels good luck.

DEVELOPING: NCAA tells Jeremiah Masoli, not this year...
![]() |
| Jeremiah Masoli in Oregon/Courtesy: pathtothedraft.com |
Masoli, a potential Heisman candidate before getting booted out of Oregon for being arrested...more than once, thought he found the perfect fit. Coach Houston Nutt and Ole Miss were desperate for a Quarterback to replace the departed Jevan Snead.
At least for the 1st game this year that won't happen. Ole Miss has appealed.

If you want to read the NCAA's statement and Ole Miss' response, Registerguard.com has it RIGHT HERE
To be honest, we kind of agree with the NCAA here. Letting Masoli play this year after the absurdly criminal acts that he perpetrated in Eugene is not exactly fair. He needs to pay the price for what he did. Yeah, I know, it's all about second chances...however this is more than second. The guy, aside from being asked to leave the University of Oregon, really hasn't paid much of a penalty for what he did.
If you read the WLOX story and others about this, at least the Mississippi versions, they tend to overlook the fact the Masoli is a convicted criminal. Sorry. We hope he gets his life together, but he shouldn't be handed a golden opportunity just because he is the perfect guy to rescue Ole Miss in the SEC.
This is why the right reverend Nutt is fascinated with Masoli. Thanks YouTube:

Jeremiah Turning Oxford Into Ole Masoli...?
((HT: WREG-TV Memphis))
Jeremiah Masoli seemed to have whatever he wanted for his college, and possibly pro, career lined up in front of him knocking people over at the University of Oregon...
Then came the burglary, the driving on a suspended license, and getting kicked off the Ducks football team by coach Chip Kelly.
Now, the school getting rid of Colonel Reb and everything associated with all things "Ol' South" is considering bringin in Masoli for redemption...
Can you imagine the Right Rev. Houston Nutt and his giggity levels if this works for the one season in the sun...? Can you imagine the giggity levels if Masoli even makes it onto campus to play for the man...?
Dennis Turner got to stand in front of a green screen to address that very issue...

Jeremiah Masoli is no longer a Duck

It's not true that once you are a Duck you are always a Duck. Troubled-now former-Oregon Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli has been asked to leave the football program by Coach Chip Kelly.
Masoli was already on probation after being arrested and convicted of robbing a University fraternity house. He was arrested this weekend for driving with a suspended license, failure to stop at a driveway or crosswalk and more importantly, police found marijuana in his glove compartment. Needless to say they didn't like that.

Coach Kelly didn't hesitate to do what he apparently should have after Masoli's first arrest...get rid of him.
It brings to a close the college career of someone who not so long ago was considered a Heisman candidate. With Masoli, the Ducks were considered one of the nation's best football teams this upcoming season. Even without him they were held in high regard.
Nobody knows what the future holds for the young man, hopefully someone will be able to guide him in the right direction. He isn't likely to land at another school, we will see where or if he lands next.

Masoli Suspended For 2011, James Suspended One Game
((HT: KVAL-TV/KMTR-TV Eugene))
University of Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and former backup wide receiver Garrett Embry will not face jail time after pleading guilty to second-degree burglary charges.
In a court hearing Friday afternoon, Masoli and Embry received 12 months probation and 140 hours of community service. In a plea deal, the charges were reduced to misdemeanors.
Masoli and Embry were alleged to have been involved a theft at the SAE fraternity house near the Oregon campus. A fraternity member reported that Masoli and Embry stole two computers and a guitar from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house.
In addition to probation and community service, Masoli and Embry are required to pay at least $5000 in restitution.
Here's KMTR's coverage of the Masoli case...
Chip Kelly then chose to dole out his punishments...
From the university their ownselves...
"I am extremely disappointed anytime any of our players fall short of our expectations that have been clearly outlined for them in advance on numerous occasions, and this is especially true regarding their roles within the community,” University of Oregon head football coach Chip Kelly said. “Their accountability for their actions is paramount and any tainting of the reputation of the University of Oregon and this football program will not be tolerated.
“I have consistently stated that I will weigh every situation on its individual merits and will determine the consequences after carefully reviewing all the facts available to me. Frequently there are variables involved that I am unable to share in regards to the decisions I make that preclude me from discussing individual cases but I want to eliminate any uncertainly that our level of expectations are the same for all our student-athletes regardless of the role they play on this team.”
James and kicker Rob Beard are suspended for the season opener against New Mexico, and may be eligible to play depending on whether or not they meet Kelly's standards for rehabilitation...

Masoli And Embry Up On Burglary Charges
((HT: KVAL-TV Eugene))
Just what the Oregon Ducks need right now... more Ducks on serious charges...
This time, it's QB Jeremiah Masoli and former team WR Garrett Embry dealing with felony burglary charges. They're set to appear in court Friday- the same day running back LaMichael James is in court to change a plea in a sentencing hearing over the strangulation charges he's facing at present.
Lane County ((OR)) court records show that Masoli and Embry are facing charges with items allegedly stolen from the SAE house on campus back in late January.
Masoli and Embry are facing second degree burglary charges- a Class C felony in the state of Oregon.
Ducks head football coach Chip Kelly is reserving any comment until after tomorrow's decisions in court.

TWTW: Who's Slower Now...??? Oregon Slowed To Duck Walk In Pasadena
((HT: WCMH-TV, Columbus/NBC4i.com))
Brother Marty in the southwest bureau, we're fairly sure, was more than prepared to see his TOSU Buckeyes take on Oregon in the Rose Bowl.
The biggest question was whether or not the Buckeyes could "keep up" with Oregon and all the speed they have on offense. QB Jeremiah Masoli made sure that the zone option read was his pet project for success this year, and he worked Chip Kelly's offense to fast success...
Except in the Rose Bowl...
Buckeyes QB Terrelle Pryor was playing with a partially torn PCL. You could tell it was giving him problems on the first scramble from scrimmage he was forced to make. It got him one-third of his rushing yards on the day, so it worked temporarily.
TOSU kept the pressure on Masoli- holding the Ducks to 179 rushing and virtually no passing yards on the day. That'll get you a win...
And it did 26-17 breaking the Buckeyes three-BCS game losing streak...
Pryor also passed for a career-high 266 yards in the game- good enough for two scores...
Jerod Smalley from WCMH-TV in Columbus is the only guy that seems to track Pryor down after the Rose Bowl win...

TWTW: Ducks In The Drivers Seat in Pac-10, Win In Double OT
((HT: KVAL-TV))
Oregon beat Arizona 44-41 in double overtime Saturday... and, apparently, no one has figured out how to stop Ducks QB Jeremiah Masoli.
Masoli was responsible for 6 TD's on the day in one fashion or another- including the one that sent the game to free football to begin with and the game winner in the second free frame...
The only thing holding them from a bid in the Rose Bowl is their game against Oregon State next weekend...
Here's your wrap, thanks to our friends at KVAL-TV in Eugene...

TWTW: Oregon Gives USC Their Annual Pac-10 Loss 47-20
((HT: KVAL-TV/Eugene))
The tenth-ranked Oregon Ducks beat the USC Trojans 47-20 in front of a record crowd at Autzen Stadium.
The Ducks piled up 613 yards of offense against USC, and had their way against a steady but shaky Trojans' defense. Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli finished 19 of 31 passing for 221 yards and one touchdown, as well as rushing for 164 yards on 13 carries and another score. Running back LaMichael James ran for a career-high 183 yards and a touchdown, consistently splitting the gaps between USC's defensive lineman.
Freshman quarterback Matt Barkley said before Saturday's match-up that the crowd at Autzen wouldn't bother him. And even though Barkley had a decent game, finishing 21-38 for 187 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, the Trojans' team as a whole never looked comfortable.
It was the worst loss by a Pete Carroll-coached team at USC...
This is what happens every year, like clockwork, somewhere in that part of the world.
And it's also what happens when you let Jeremiah Masoli loose, and you can't find the Oregon running backs...
Here's your postgame wrap, Nick Krupke got to do this one indoors...

TWTW: Duck, Duck... Cal Gets Goosed 42-3
((HT: KVAL-TV/Eugene))
The Ducks, wearing their "throw-back" jerseys from the mid 1990's, got a huge boost on offense with the re-emergence of quarterback Jeremiah Masoli. Masoli broke out of an early season slump to complete 21 of 25 passes for 253 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.
Masoli's favorite target was tight end Ed Dickson. Dickson had a career day, finishing with 11 catches for 148 yards and receiving all three of Masoli's touchdown throws. The Ducks also had a solid day on the ground led by LaMichael James. James, coming off his breakout performance against Utah the week before, had another 100 yard rushing performance, ending up with 118 yards and one touchdown.
Oregon's defense also stepped up to the challenge, especially against Cal's Heisman candidate running back Jahvid Best. Best was held to only 55 yards on 16 carries, as the Ducks seemed to easily break through the Bears' offensive line throughout the day.
