Federal Fraud Charges Now On Schlichter

Former tOSU QB Art Schlichter was charged with bank and wire fraud in connection with a scam that involved scalping college football tickets, including the 2011 Sugar Bowl. He was also charged with filing a false tax return, according to the U.S. District Court.

Back in April, a Franklin County ((OH)) grand jury indicted Schlichter on 13 counts with, at least, 12 different victims. He has been in jail since February, and is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.

He was in prison in Indiana from 1994 to 2006 for fraud and forgery related to gambling, and has never been able to shake the demons that got him in trouble in the first place- even with all of the different tours of prison he has had.

Here's the story from the time of the original indictment, thanks to our friends at NBC4 in C'bus...

Schlicter Gets Million Dollar Bond

((HT: WBNS-TV Columbus))

A judge set a $1,050,000 bond for former tOSU QB Art Schlichter, one day after he asked to be released from jail so that he could attend treatment for gambling addiction.

The HQ likes the gumption of the defendant, but haven't we all been down this road before...???

Schlichter has been in jail since February since he, allegedly, pilfered more than $1 million in a ticket scam. He still has yet to be charged.

Here's Paul Aker's initial investigation from Columbus...

"He's not going to be able to post the bond the court set," said Franklin County prosecutor Ron O'Brien.

Schlichter's attorney, Sam Shamansky, does not know whether Art can get that kind of money together.

"This is a very significant bond and whether or not Mr. Schlichter has the wherewithall to post the same is known only to him,"
Shamansky said.

Word is that his friends, if they exist anymore, would have to foot the bill if Schlicter can't...

Art Schlichter in trouble again, this time a scam

The hits, just keep on coming. Art Schlichter, an ex-Ohio State and NFL football player who gained notoriety for his well-publicized gambling addiction, is in trouble yet again.

This time, he's being charged with a 1st degree felony in connection with stealing more than $1 million from someone.

According to reports, he was a part of a sports ticket scam and investigators think there are more victims out there.

The story, from the Columbus Dispatch RIGHT HERE

For his part, Schlichter turned himself in. It's not his first time with legal problems either. He spent 12 years for various fraud and forgery convictions.

His history, quite honestly is too lengthy for us to go into detail with. He was an all-american quarterback in college, made it to the pros, though he was mostly a backup quarterback with the Indianapolis Colts.

Either way, it's a sad commentary on what he was apparently all about that not only did he get in trouble, he can't seem to stop getting in trouble. And this newest case, if true, will keep him in jail for a long, long time.
