Marin's Story: A Reason For Remembrance

We originally posted this story on November 29th of last year.
Marin left us too soon. She passed away in her sleep a week ago. She was 18.

Memorial services were held in her two home towns on two coasts and the family is preparing to send her home with a final send-off on top of Palos Verdes mountain south of Los Angeles.

If I know the spot, it's a hell of a view.

Here's Marin's story from her family's point-of-view...
OSG's thoughts are with the Morrisons at this time...

A lot of us here in the land of OSG HQ worked alongside Matt Morrison when he was talking sports in the southeastern United States a few years back. His daughter, Marin, always loved swimming and became very accomplished as a teenager.

We're talking world-class...

In 2005, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She's had four operations since the initial round of diagnoses and treatments. Marin had one real wish- she wanted to compete in the Olympics. The tumor may have taken her body away from her at points, but it never took her dream away. Despite paralysis and inoperable tumors, she continued to train and made it to the US Paralympic Team- qualifying in three events.

It took a lot of people helping in and around her new hometown of Sammamish, Washington to get the family to Beijing and the '08 Paralympics.

The Morrisons made it.
Marin made it.
And the story below is a reminder of what truly is important this time of year...

Marin was part of the Peacock's Paralympic Games coverage- seven-and-a-half minutes worth.

It's worth your time...

So is her personal journey on Caringbridge.org

The folks at Hurley are even breaking out a line of their lids designed by Marin- a first for their corporation. If you pick up one of their hats during the month of November ((translation- act fast)), any hat that's purchased gets part of their proceeds headed toward Marin's charity.

Does it matter where Marin finished in Beijing in her three races...?

Not one bit...

She finished. And that's what matters...

Keep the Morrisons in your prayers this holiday season...
