We came across this story this morning and wondered "Hmmm...wonder what the implications of this would be". Apparently the Flu-bug has been running through the New York Mets and there broadcast partners Sportschannel New York. While it is extremely unlikely that it is the "Swine Flu" according to the story in the Daily News here , that doesn't mean that the subject hasn't come up.
According to the Daily News it is more than likely just a bad stomach bug, one of those things that once it starts, gets passed around (no pun intended) until it runs its course. Several Mets players, including Carlos Beltran (pictured, thanks Simmons/News) have missed a couple of games because of it.
We don't of course want to imply that this is the reason the Mets have been very mediocre...mostly because the other teams in the N.L East have been too (Phillies and Braves) and as far as we know they haven't reported anyone being ill, though for the Braves, it might explain why nobody after the 5th hitter in the lineup is capable of hitting (ooooh....yeah, I went there).
