Giants' Jonathan Sanchez Throws No-Hitter

The last no-hitter for the San Francisco Giants was by John "The Count" Montefusco against the Atlanta Braves in 1976.

Friday night at AT&T Park in San Francisco, the Giants Jonathan Sanchez threw a no-hitter in an 8-0 win over the San Diego Padres. It is the first no-hitter of the 2009Major League Baseball season.

Sanchez struck out 11- a career high. He carried a perfect game into the 8th inning until a Chase Headley groundball was booted by Juan Uribe at third base.

Sanchez started after a three-week demotion to the bullpen - and he only got the start Friday because 303-game winner Randy Johnson went on the disabled list earlier this week with a shoulder injury. Sanchez also had a five-start winless stretch in which he went 0-4 before the trip to the bullpen.

Those of us at OSG HQ think he's earned one more start... and the money shots of the night were watching his dad in the stands, and then his getting the chance to hug his kid in the dugout before the curtain call.

Here's the 9th Inning, with Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow calling the gem...
