Rape Reported At Home Of Falcons Player
((HT: AJC/Hartstein))
A woman reported she was raped at a party at the Buford home of Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas, Gwinnett police said.
Police say Douglas ((pictured, thanks Al Messerschmidt/Getty)) is not a suspect and had no knowledge of the incident.
The woman, who is in her 20s, called police about 5 a.m. Thursday.
She said she went to a party at Douglas’ home on Wednesday night. She got tired and fell asleep in one of the bedrooms. “She was then awoken by a male who was sexually assaulting her,” the police press release stated. “The victim fled the scene to another location where she called 911 to report what had just happened.”
The woman gave investigators the name of a possible suspect.
When investigators arrived at Douglas’ house, he told them the man they were looking for had left. The crime scene unit processed the scene for evidence.
Thursday afternoon, investigators were trying to find the man to question him.
Police interviewed Douglas and determined he was not involved and had no knowledge of the incident, the release stated.
The Falcons issued this statement:
“We are aware of the report concerning an incident that took place at Harry Douglas’ residence. It is our understanding that Harry was not involved in the incident. Because this is an ongoing police investigation we will have no further comment at this time.”
Just over two years ago, a woman claimed she was raped at the Buckhead home of former Falcons defensive end Patrick Kerney. Kerney, now with the Seahawks, was asleep at the time and was not involved in the alleged incident.
Douglas, 24, was chosen by the Falcons in the third round last year after starring at Louisville and Jonesboro High School. He caught 23 passes for 320 yards and a touchdown last season.
His younger brother, Toney Douglas, just signed a rookie deal with the New York Knicks. The guard was taken 29th overall after winning ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
