Tomberlin Out At Valdosta

Valdosta High School head football coach Rick Tomberlin will not return at his position next football season.

Sources close to OSG Sports in Winnersville say that Tomberlin's 57-15 loss to Lowndes Friday night on national television was the last straw.

He will coach the remainder of the season, but it is unclear at the moment whether or not he would coach in a post-season game should the Wildcats make it to week 11 and beyond.

Tomberlin came to Valdosta for the 2005 season after a 14-year run at Washington County High School in Sandersville, Georgia. At WCHS, he coached the likes of Takeo Spikes and the Edwards brothers- Robert and Terrence- to state titles in 1994, 1996, and 1997.

His record at Valdosta is 19-20 with three games left in the regular season. His career record in Georgia is 219-100.

Valdosta football has the most wins in the United States for high school football with 847, 23 Georgia championships, and 6 national titles.

Their last Georgia title came in 1998.
