Patrice Cormier Suspended Indefinitely By QMJHL

((HT: TSN))

This is really disappointing on a few different levels. And it gives those tree-hugging, hippy, weirdo nutbags that want all the physical play out of hockey more ammunition for their cause.

Take you back to Sunday, Patrice Cormier (who was one of Team Canada's heroes- and team captain- from the recently completed World Juniors) decides to go elbows-up to the Quebec Remparts Mikael Tam. Cormier pops Tam flush, and he was out on the way down. Tam was taken to hospital for brain scans and such. It's reported that he lost a couple of teeth, but thankfully, he checked out this evening.

Cormier was suspended indefinitely by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and the only thing keeping a timetable on it is that the powers-that-are were in transit to other events.

Remparts boss Patrick Roy isn't going to take this one lying down:

"One thing I didn't like was the way he left the ice," Roy said. "He didn't show that he felt sorry for what he did, he was arguing with the referee, and when he was asked to leave the ice, he was looking at our bench."

A police spokesperson says criminal charges are being looked in to...

Here's the report by Rod Smith from our friends at TSN...
The video ain't pretty...

Cornier is such a chicken, and what makes things worse is when his teammates says "he have no intention to hurt anyone" !?!?

This is the third time in a very short time he does the samething. To a Swede and a Finn i Junior hockey World Championship. He is just out on the ice to hurt people.

Suspend him for minimum of two seasons and press criminal charges to him for those assults

Don't be surprised if the league takes a stand here. Cormier may be gone for the rest of the jumior season, but another league may pick him up... disappointing thought, but not a surprise if it happens...

Patrice Cormier should be charged with attemped murder. A few years in prison would teach him... This is not his first offence and it's a great game which does not have to be so violent. He should never be allowed to play on any hockey league...

Patrice Cormier? Just a freak of the game that should never have represented Canada. This was not an isolated act. The guy is a serial offender and should have been suspended in the world juniors. Maybe, just maybe, Team Canada would have won if the concept of integrity was a cornerstone of the team bench. Any coach that puts this bully on the ice has to share some of the responsibility. What would he do to get and edge? Could it involve substance abuse? The stuff does provide the platform for the rage we see in his game. Yes! He should be tested! If i ever see this kid on the ice he will get a round of boooooos from everyone I know. You hit to facilitate puck control not to eliminate your competition. Cowards hmm? I pity the New Jersey Devils who wasted a signing bonus. Patrice is all smiles today hmmm. "Gee boss i done good didn't I. share my money with no-one eh? They gave me a mazda" duh! I hit goood, eh," quack like a duck. Yup its a duck, no, a devil.

Lets get some integrity back in the Game!!

The elbow was out in advance to the blow to the head, which indicates that Cormier was intentionally looking to injure his opponent.
In comparison to football, which is mostly body-to-body contact, hockey should follow suit, as there is no purpose to the game to purposely whack someone in the head unless it is to cause them brain damage.
Cormier should be discharged from QMJHL and never allowed to play hockey again.
