David McKannan still holds the Alabama high school record for the 2-mile run at 9:11.5. He set the record in 1973 while running for Huntsville-Grissom High School.
He now suffers from a form of ALS, but never tell a runner what he can and can't do- especially when it comes to competing against someone or something.
