Start and Park. One of the unspoken rules/games of the lower tiered NASCAR racing teams and something not talked about much. Until now. Today (Monday) at the Coca-Cola 600, driver Scott Riggs of Number 36 car balked when his team owner Tommy Baldwin asked him to do precisely that to begin the race.

Check out the story from David Newton of the 4-Letter Word here
Riggs has said that he will "Step Down" as driver of the car after the race. Stating "I'm not willing to just start and park", that he was too competitive to do that. Unfortunately, the team...or should we say Riggs, was 42nd in the current point standings.
This also speaks highly to the exorbitant cost of running a car in the Sprint Cup series and the current economic times. The surprising thing about this is that it is being discussed publicly now. NASCAR like most other sports has certain things that they just don't discuss and the fact that there are cars that are just basically functioning as "Field Fillers" is just one of them.
